QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) It comes off as (abortion = murder) is a fact. No. That's what you choose to read into the sentence. The sentence, as stated, speaks for itself.
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) How can a fact include "I believe"? Isn't that an opinion? The Fact is that I Believe what I what I said. The sentence is strucured to clearly state that.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) Releasing the documents really has become important, seeing as Alito's conveniently selective amnesia seems to clear up once his past is put under his nose for him to see. When a critical review of CAP published by an alumni committee that featured alumnus Bill Frist found that the group's "distorted, narrow and hostile view of the University" had "misinformed and even alarmed many alumni" and "undoubtedly generated adverse national publicity," then maybe we can understand why his membership in the group was something he flaunted for Ed Meese but hid during all his other job interviews. Supposedly, the New York Times has gone through the specific boxes Kennedy wants subpeoned and found nothing directly applicable to Alito. I saw the exchange between Kennedy and Specter. That piece you quoted makes Specter come across as the heavy, but it looked more Kennedy was trying to throw his substantial weight (political, not literal) around to me.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) I think that comes about because of this stupid rule where the nominee is allowed to claim that he won't talk about business that might come before the court while he's on it. If you could just come out and ask a guy how he would rule on a hypothetical, that would make this vastly easier, but instead, we're left with all these little word games which try to get answers to exactly those sorts of questions without really asking them. I believe that "stupid rule" is called the Ginsberg rule.

I've explained my handle around here a few times, but we have some newbies, so here goes .... YASNY takes the first letter of the phrase (and the song) You Ain't Seen Nuthin' Yet. It evolved from a phrase I would use a lot in chat rooms to a handle. No, it has nothing to do with New York.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) On Point #1, Crede said if his representation ever got in the way of staying long term with the White Sox, he'd change his representation. Might be very true, but things have a way of changing. An arbitration hearing can change all the warm fuzzy feelings in a hurry. Can you think of a better reason for Boras to force this to go to arbitration?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 09:00 AM) Check new member title Okay, you lost me here.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 07:55 AM) Let me provide the naive post of the week. Two questions: (1) If having Boras as his agent means the end of his playing days in Chicago, and he likes the city and team, and success......why wouldn't Crede just get a new agent, at least if the negotiations turn sour? (2) Isn't this "we won't play with Boras" issue rather immature on KW's part? Cant the just look at numbers and set a years/dollars amount that he simply won't exceed, whether its Boras or anyone else on the other end of the table? Come on, its business, not Christmas dinner! SFF Regarding number 2 ... The Sox have lost 3 1st round draft picks that failed to sign because Boras was their agent. The Sox got used by and lied to by Boras in the Alex Rodriguez free agency. The Magglio Ordonez situation went right into the s***ter when he signed Boras as his agent. The Sox have every reason to choose not to negotiate with Boras.

Bin Laden, Al Qaeda ordered attacks on Israel

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 08:35 AM) This entire thread is based on the supposition that Iraq-Al Qaeda is now apparently the mouthpiece of the Palestinians. It's like implying that Fred Phelps speaks for all Christians. You specified posts 2, 3 and 4. The word "Palestinians" is not even mentioned once in any of those posts. Muslims, yes. Palestinians, no. -
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) Rex, Did you even read the article?? That's what I was wondering. He's throwing cable news at us and the article talks about the Big 3 networks news coverage and the vast jungle of liberally slanted newspapers. As I stated a few other times, typical liberal misdirection.
-
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 08:33 AM) That's exactly what you're saying. It seems pretty direct. Just maybe when someone else says it and attaches your name to it, you're actually hearing how ridiculous it sounds. 1. Liberals philosophically support abortion. 2. Regardless of the laws of this land, in God's eyes, I believe it's murder. That's not saying liberals murder babies. However, those two statements, as presented above, are facts. I'll stand by that. Ridiculous or not.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 07:25 AM) haha why you gotta be so negative, yo. Because the released Jim Bullard.

This reminds me of that reddish orange dust that fell across Chicagoland last week. Did they determine what that was?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 07:10 AM) Its now official. Anyone of these lefties who makes this team will now be my whipping boy I hear ya.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 06:48 AM) Liberals murder babies? :headshake BTW, there are liberals in Church with you. Too bad that half the population that voted, voted for the liberal candidates the last four elections. So in your opinion, half of America wants to drag the country down the s***ter. you must be S c a r e d Abortion, my friend ... that's what I call murdering babies. I was talking about the philosophical backing of abortion, by liberals. I never said liberals murder babies. Stop twisting my words.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 06:55 AM) I wonder if guys are bailing to avoid the embarassment of being cut or not playing. The US still has Clemens, Haladay, Petitte, Sabathia, Sheets, Willis and Zito as starters -and a like roster of relievers. The roster will only be 30 with a minimum of 13 pitchers. The most games any team can play is only 8. A lot of players may 'decide' to go home. I have to confess that I no idea what kind of numbers of players were involved in this.

Read Greg Couch's column from today's Sun Times. Good for a laugh.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) Posts 2, 3 and 4 in this thread. Unless I'm misreading this: And here I was thinking this was the right of a nation to self-determination. Silly me. I must be misreading something, because I still don't see it. It seems to me you are making a huge leap to say that Al-Qaida = Palestinian was even implied. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Which proves the authors point that in many Churches, members must worship the GOP along with Jesus. Even YASNY believes that liberals are Godless. So be it, then. In general, any philosophy the believes in the murder of babies and attempting to exclude God from our society is in my opion, Godless. If the shoe fits ...

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) "Actually I voted against Roe v. Wade before I voted for it." "Samuel Alito. Whichever way the wind blows" Damn. For some reason, that quote reminded me of John Kerry.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) Agreed on both counts. I have seen the TV rumors, and I also think Yawney is just terrible. There are way too many fundimentals that just are not happening. Its like watching the Cubs on ice. I don't know how true it is, because I have yet to see any Hawks games, but the analogy is hilarious.

I second everything Jason had to say. I'm disappointed they released you and hope that you latch on elsewhere and have a long fruitful ML career. Best of luck to you, Bull. Oh ... don't be a stranger.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 01:41 AM) Well at least he'll be moving from an extreme pitchers park in Birmingham to an extreme hitters park in Charlotte. So I think his AVG could rise a little from 2005, he good have a pretty good 2nd half of the season. But that's not the problem. It's his plate discipline, which is currently Joe Borchard like. That should be what he really needs to concentrate on fixing over the next 2 seasons. Dave Wilder said they thought he was ready for the jump, so I guess we'll have to wait and see. At least we'll see Micah Schnurstein bumped up to AA now. Fixed that for you. No charge.

They are bailing like rats from a sinking ship.

Gossage was better than Sutter. They both belong in. Blyleven and Morris belong in. Compare Blyleven to Don Sutton. Strawberry and Gooden. Emphatic No! Rice and Dawson, I'd lean toward admitting them.
