QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 10:21 AM) I'd love to hear a legitimate reason why this isn't a violation of the law. So far the only attempts at a defnse that I've heard is the defense of the four year old - you know - "They all did it too!" even though that isn't even true, and it was implicitly authorized by a resolution in Congress advocating necessary military force, even though the language used to justify it wasn't even in the actionable piece of the legislation. Which is like using the preamble of the constitution as your main piece of evidence to back up a specific right. Flimsy. Especially since there seems to be evidence that this program began before the legislation was even introduced. It's all a matter of legal opinions at point. It will be sorted out. Let's let the courts figure this out before we slander the POTUS.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 06:51 AM) It certainly is sad that Republicans can't seem to get into Journalism. I wonder in this free enterprise system how an industry is able to lock out Republicans so well. And an entire industry will forsake profits, credibility, the public trust, in a united effort to get Republicans and elect Democrats. It must be all the profits they make when Democrats are in office. I wonder if there is a secret daily meeting of all newspaper reporters to discuss how to report all the GOP wrongdoings? Maybe there is a secret internet where only the media go to screw Republicans. LOL, maybe once I become paranoid and drink the GOP koolaid, I'll believe it. Bush is perfect, it's just the media. The GOP whining, despite having 24/7 shills like Hannity/Rush/O'Reilly just makes me laugh. They took a page from the doomsday cults and created a bunker mentality, us vs. the media and soooo many people started slurping the koolaid. Wait just a goddamn minute here! It's ok for some LEFTIST! to bash FoxNews and when bring up CBS in response I get this crap?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) And Jon Garland wants to play in SoCal because his wife is from Hawaii and he's from Socal too. Man, I am gonna get so much mileage out of that particular leak... Yeah, you have to take everything with a grain of salt until there is an official press release from the Sox. That applies to just about any situation.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) That's an interesting revalation... Thanks Yas. You're more than welcome, my dear.

He's on the mound, thinking about what he wants to do here. He approaches the rubber. No wait. Backs up and grabs the bag and jiggles it around a bit. He stares down at what he hopes will be his next conquest. Back to the rubber. Now, peers in ... gets the sign he was looking for ... Here it comes folks. The big pitch! He Gawn! Wait. He's still alive as the ball was flipped near the mound. He's in there safely. What a play.

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) agreed... the last paragraph has Fox News written all over it. CBS sure wouldn't give this an insightful thorough investigation and report it objectively. They'd be too busy pushing under the rug while they took aim at Bush.

Disgruntled Dems Consider Challenge to Lieberman
YASNY replied to southsideirish71's topic in The Filibuster
Lieberman sounds like a man who will think for himself rather than be led around by a ring through his nose. We need more like him in Congress. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) I still don't like the idea of having as valuable of a chip as him and letting him walk with us getting absolutely nothing in return, given that we want to build a franchise that can win for a long time here. I agree, but from a different perspective it plays out like this. KW picked up Loiaza off the scrap heap. Traded EL for JC. We rode JC through the 2nd half and post season to a World Championship. Who knows how '06 will turn out? We don't have much invested in him, and realistically can't expect a lot out him beyond '06. So if he walks, he'll get a huge thank you and a ton of well wishes from me.

I believe the MIP will be Joe Crede. He always put a ton of pressure on himself and was battling the game instead instead of playing it. I think while on the DL last year, he decided to just relax and have fun. He not only looked like a completely different player after the DL stint, but a completely different person as well.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 01:36 AM) I hope Willie does well. I think there's a lot of talent there itchin to come out. From following the team closely during Harris' time here, I think if he would work at being damn good instead of thinking he's damn good, he could be damn good.
-
Another one... More like he wants to rebuild Al Qaida.
-
He's getting his ass kicked. UNCLE!
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 10:19 AM) So to summarize, If Crede wants to satisfy, he should not go long and deep(into slumps) You're a very twisted person
-
If I'm not mistaken, the ALC finished 8 games above .500 vs the ALE in head to head matchups.

QUOTE(crazyman26 @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 09:58 AM) I am just curious what White Sox fans and management want out of Crede since my general impression seems they are unhappy with him and his production in alot of ways. His batting % and slugging % are not too good so they probably want those things improved. For somebody who only got 430 at bats last year and will probably only get about 430 at bats this year, wouldnt 22 home runs and 61 RBIs be reasonable? After all that would translate into 30 home runs and 80 RBIs for somebody who was getting 580 at bats. He is one of the best defensive 3rd baseman in the league. So I am just curious what he would have to do, and improve upon to impress people and keep his job? Now for a non-smartass answer. People around here would like Crede to so a little more consistency. When he slumps, it's long and deep. (that may be the wrong choice of words considering the thread title. But I digress) He'll go into a funk for 3 to 4 weeks at a time and couldn't hit his way out of a wet paper bag. When he's on, he's pretty damn good. If he could lessen the legths and/or severity of his slumps, he'd be approaching All Star calibre.

I don't know what AD saw or even thought he saw, but if he believed he thought she was on the verge of some guy taking a swing at her or something ... well, let me put it this way, I would have rushed to the defense of my EX-wife if I thought she was going to be hurt. Rules be damned.

Congrats Mr. Kickass.

Sox rated 11th best farm system by Sports Weekly
YASNY replied to maggsmaggs's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) He just meant Liotta and BA are top pitcher and hitter in the system. And I think wite meant that we lost our top hitter in Chris Young. Our top pitcher came off the prospect list in BMac and we traded away Gio ... all that and still number 11. Not bad. -
QUOTE(kevin57 @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) A brilliant and beautiful move. Its genesis must have come from the Cub organization. There was no WS trophy in 1908.

Pierzynski, Widger return behind the plate in 2006
YASNY replied to SSH2005's topic in Pale Hose Talk
AJ and Widger brought a lot to this club, but defensive excellence behind the plate was not part of it. -
Hey folks! I just want to congratulate everyone on a great thread! When we keep the partisan bulls*** to minimum and discuss the issues, there is a lot to be learned. I was thinking, that I might not be learning a lot of definitive answers, but I'm learning some very good questions. Maybe we (me included) should make an effort to discuss more than we snipe. It might be beneficial to all and it would most certainly be beneficial to Soxtalk.

Screw that, so to speak. I am staying firmly planted on the right.
