  1. QUOTE(LDF @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) they are prospect and can develop into something good. i am for tradning anyone as long as we get fair value in return and will help us to get to the world series. which we did, now make trades that will keep us there, which kw is. i just don't want to fleece at the same time. The thing that we don't know is will either of these guys ever pan out. Will they be Joe Borchard and John Rauch or Willie Mays and Bob Gibson? We are CURRENTLY in a position to build upon last years success and be favorites to get another WC. Strike while the iron is hot. When the time comes for us to rebuild, then prospects have greater importance. We aren't at that point right now.
  2. VAfan ... Compare Garland to AJ Burnett. Look at what Burnett got. Now Imagine what Garland can command. Garland may turn out to be great. But, he may turn out to be nothing more than a slightly above average pitcher. Do you want to commit 12, 13, 14 million a year for 7 years to him, based one one good year?
  3. Chris Young and Gio Gonzalez. The contributed exactly what to this World Championship team?
  4. QUOTE(S720 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) Call him EVIL all you want, but on Silvy and Carmen show with Jayson Start, all of them are raving and praising all the moves that Kenny William has made this offseason. Jayson further mentioned, "I am not saying the White Sox are a lock to win it all again, but with all the RIGHT moves that Kenny has made, they are currently better than the Yankees, Red Sox, Indians, Twins. They are the best right now in the American League!" Silvy and Carmen also agreed with Mariotti that Kenny IS a GM gem! Everything I am seeing in the media, other than rotoworld, has been very positive about the moves the Sox have made. Yet, here we are in an "Evil Kenny Williams" thread. Sometimes I wonder just what it takes to satisfy some Sox fans.
  5. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 10:27 AM) Isnt it wierd when writers start talking about the sox being a dynasty? This time last year i was excited that we might make the playoffs. I think Kenny Williams sold his soul to the devil and in return he was given the ability to make kick ass trades that make other Gm's look like idiots. Hey! What ever it takes!
  6. QUOTE(heirdog @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) Its really a stretch to stretch trades out like this. But if that is a fair assessment, then Harold Baines netted us Sammy Sosa and Wilson Alvarez in 1989. Sosa then netted us George Bell in 1992 and Alvarez netted us Mike Caruso, Keith Foulke, Bobby Howry, Lorenzo Barcelo, Brian Simmons, amongst others in 1997. Mike Caruso's demise allowed us to have "Kalapse" on this board so in some form, Harold Baines got us Kalapse from Sox Talk. That's also a fair assessment.
  7. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) Scrolling down would have found you the exact same thread, D. f*** it: Lastings Milledge. I want to see a package from that "wizard" Omar Minaya surrounding Lastings Milledge. There. Said it. The Mets might be a possibility.
  8. QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) Just remember that had we had Javier Vasquez this year instead of either Jose Contreras or Jon Garland, we not only wouldn't have won the World Series, we wouldn't have made the playoffs. Check it out. There's no reason to believe Vasquez would have pitched better in the AL facing DH's instead of pitchers. And given the Sox' difficulty scoring runs, there is no reason to believe he would have done better than 11-15. Compared to Garland's 18-10 or even Contreras's 13-9, that's enough of a swing that Cleveland wins the division and we sit home. You can't say that at all. Put the man in different circumstances, you can expect different results. He certainly has the talent. Maybe he was miserable in Arizona. Maybe Coop would have changed his focus. Maybe the good defense would have been a confidence builder. Ther are several things that could have affected his performance if he would have been here rather than there.
  9. QUOTE(Wedge @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:24 AM) Damn straight! Damn mariotti anyway. That's the kiss of death!
  10. QUOTE(LDF @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:22 AM) i know it was meant for me yansy. If the shoe fits ...
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan13 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:16 AM) High-five Mariotti for finally telling it like it is. Great article. It was a good column. But, this is just a reflection of which way the wind is blowing today in the world of jay mariotti.
  12. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) Speculation. Get me something that says, "White Sox are nearing deal with [insert team here] for so and so." Until then, he's not being traded and he's in the starting rotation. Sure it's just speculation at this point. But it's being speculated because it makes sense. Just like several around here speculated that Rowand would probably be traded because he was a tradable commodity with an adequate replacement. Of course, he was first member of the team to leave via trade.
  13. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 07:26 AM) To keep our sodium levels up? Oooooooh!
  14. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:39 AM) Dog Dung > Mike North LOL. Short and to the point.
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:39 AM) This is standard operating procedure. Distancing themselves from soon to be ex sox player. Then the break. Thanks Jon for the magical 2005. If you can get us impact pitching prospects, great. Whoa! This is the media. Not the Sox. There are no quotes from any Sox brass saying that.
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:37 AM) He shot down that rumor, because it won't be BMac if it goes down.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:33 AM) Yeah, it looks like the media is going to try and make it look like the Sox are airing it out with their dirty laundry again with Garland after what happened with Maggs and Lee. And you'd think Jon could show a little loyalty from how the Sox actually stuck by him, but with the current market for FA SP's, it looks like he's going to test it. And that looks like it's going to cost his job with us. This may be out of place, but since we are quoting local columnists today, this from jay mariotti.... Damn Philly fans! They got a great guy who'll bust his ass for them, and they are already trying to tear him apart. BTW, good column from mariotti today.
  18. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:08 AM) KW loves the fact of having a 6th starter for insurance reasons. All BMac does is replace El-duque's spot in the bullpen for a year. He will spot start when needed and come 2007- he will be one of our ACEs. I don't see Garland being traded- unless its for an impact type player such as Tejada or Crawford. I doubt we get Tejada- KW loves the Crede/Uribe connection on the left side of the infield- they are cheap and are awesome defensively. Crawford on the other hand makes sense- since TB has many solid OFers in there system they will want starting pitching galore for him. Can we see a possible 3-way deal for him?? With KW you never know. Garland to Baltamore, pitching prospects from Baltamore and us to TB, Crawford to the Sox. I love speculating this time of year. Hmmm. You might want to check out the "Garland For ... " thread in trade winds.
  19. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:24 AM) The Freddy Garcia trade ended up being a very good trade for the Sox because of how Garcia performed. But don't think for a second that it is legit to evaluate the prospects given up in that trade after only one year. While Olivo struggled in Seattle, he played well in San Diego after being traded and the Pads love him. I still believe Reed will become a very solid player. Not all young players have instant success, yet some of them still turn out to be very nice players. Time will tell. It is way too soon to act like we gave up nothing in that trade. I thought SD was in the market for a catcher.
  20. I thought this part of the column was most interesting:
  21. I remember for a time, West was thought fairly hihgly of around here and several were pissed when he quit.
  22. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) The difference between Mulder and Garland is that Mulder had a reasonable $7.25 million team option for 2006. The Cardinals knew they would have Mulder for at least two years. Whatever team we trade Garland to would only have him for one season before he hits free agency. That lowers Garland's trade value. Following that same logic, a midseason deal would bring us even less.
  23. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 02:44 AM) Vizcaino pitched one inning in the postseason. What does that tell you? That one game went 14 innings?
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) what? my brain can't even compute the possibility of this move. So your outfield would be Murton/Pierre/Patterson, then start Walker and Cedeno at SS and 2b? No way, I love to laugh at Cubs fans and I think Hendry is WAY overrated, but there's not a chance in hell he walks out with that to start 06. That is pretty damn pathetic.
