  1. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Don't forget, we have two pitchers going in the World Baseball Classic. I wouldn't trade B-Mac just yet. Use Garland or Contreras as trade bait come july 31st (or June 1st if you're Kenny). Depth at pitcher is a good thing to have. 3. Vazquez is pitching for Puerto Rico.
  2. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) Now that El Duque and Viz are gone, the trade was basically Carlos for Pods, AJ, and Vasquez. Nice work, Kenny! I think that's a fair assessment. The extra $1.5 million mentioned later in the thread comes from increased revenue as a result of the Lee trade.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) What's the over/under on length of the homer Hafner will hit against Baj in the first series of 2006? I never did like Vizcaino, but Baj would be a significant downgrade in the pen. Just asking here, but why do you think Baj will fail?
  4. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 01:45 AM) Stop stealing my ideas. I know a lot of people rate Jon Garland very highly, but I still think it's very possible he could regress a little in 2006. He doesn't K batters like our other starters (which at the Cell isn't a good thing), and I just think everyone is expecting him to have another great season, which I think is a little unrealistic. Still his value is at an all time high at the moment, and he could get even better, we'll have to wait and see. Unless he signs with the Sox, his value with the Sox will never be higher. They'll get more for Garland during the offseason than at the trade deadline.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 01:40 AM) Great Post yas, summed it up perfectly. Thanks. I have my good days.
  6. I've been a supporter of Jon Garland for a long time, as many Soxtalk veterans can attest to. However, I have never believed Jon wanted to make it career in silver and black. Why is Kenny probably going to trade Garland? Let's look at AJ Burnett vs. Garland. I may be slightly off on some of this as I'm going from memory. Burnett is 29, Garland 26. They've had the same number of big league seasons. Garland has about 15 more career wins than Burnett. Burnett got sent home by his team last season. Burnett has had arm problems leading to DL time while Garland has pitched 200+ innings every year since he stepped in as a rotation fixture. Who's more valuable, Garland or Burnett? Burnett just signed a 5 year $55 million contract. What would Garland command. he can use all those points in his negotiations. Is 7 years at $12 million per extravagant in comparison? Garland can make a logical argument for it in my opinion. Is JR going to sign him to a 7 year $84 million contract? I seriously doubt it. I think the reason KW is looking to trade Garland is pretty self evident.
  7. QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) He is going to wear his sunglasses at night. The future's so bright .....
  8. QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) Charles johnson was the first sox autograph i ever got at a game. Josh Paul Dropped third strike. Buddy Bradford.
  9. If it seems to you that KW overpays in every trade, then it seems to me you overvalue our players. Disclaimer: That is a general statement, not directed at any particular poster.
  10. At this point, I think Garland's packing his bags.
  11. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) I'm still not the fondest of it, but I don't hate it as much anymore. I'll wait and see what else KW does. I'm going on the assumption that there will be more.
  12. QUOTE(Adam G @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) She was responding to me. I said put Garland's ass on the plane instead of McCarthy because Jon is dead set on testing the market. Then she said something about giving Konerko's contract back and gave me the eye roll. Yep! Steff's eye roll is much more effective that anyone else's.
  13. QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) that doesnt necessarily mean hes a bad clubhouse guy Just don't piss him off. Oops. Meant to be in green, not bold.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) Out of f***ing line. Yet I am not surprised. Agreed. It was out of line.
  15. QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) Looks like they are actually going to pay $8 Million! http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/20...s-vazquez_x.htm This deal is looking better by the minute.
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 07:44 AM) Amateurs...
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) If we're going on the "way out there" limb, let's say Seattle backed off their not trading Ichiro policy!! Garland would rock in that ballpark.
  18. He walked out on Cuba didn't he? He must have a s***ty attitude.
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) I missed that story, but I find it incredibly hysterical. When the rumors about the Cubs being interested in Tejada started, this bad attitude thing got a life all it's own around here.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) MT has one of the best, if not the best, attitudes. His rivals that of only Pujols that I can think of off the top of my head. One stupid hack on rotoworld said Tejada quit on his team last year and everybody has latched on to that. He's been considered great in the clubhouse his entire career.
  21. QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:43 AM) When Garland came up he was younger, had less experience, and stats not as impressive as McCarthy's. How was he more major league ready? He wasn't.
  22. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) A very high compliment coming from you sir. Thank you. You're welcome. Though, I need to learn how to spell quickman. :headshake
  23. Borchard was not the 5th pick overall. The Sox haven't had a top ten pick since ... who? Thomas? Fernandez?
  24. QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) I'm not trying to prove putting a guy straight into the rotation doesn't mess him up. I'm trying to prove it's a path many young pitchers take on their way to success and I'm strongly against keeping McCarthy out of his future role for an entire season. Nobody's argued against that point either. The Sox, however, have a history of doing it the other way.
