Top Gun is supposed to be a good one for this.

QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 08:52 AM) This post has been edited by the Soxtalk staff to remove objectionable material. Soxtalk encourages a free discussion between its members, but does not allow personal attacks, threats, graphic sexual material, nudity, or any other materials judged offensive by the Administrators and Moderators. Thank you. His opinions on the conflict between the "palestinians" and Israel are baseless. He obviously knows very little, if anything, about the conflict, and his opinions should be ignored by anyone who has a brain. Actually, if anyone has a brain, they'd listen to what LCR has to say. Not necessarily accept it, but to question your own point of view. He consistently looks at issues from outside the box and researches more than your average poster. I don't always agree with LCR, but I always listen to what he has to say. Open your mind up a little bit and stop dismissing viewpoints you happen to disagree with.

Okay Mr. Kickass, I'll answer your question. IF this is true, then somebody needs to indicted, convicted and sentenced to a long prison term. IF the CIA sanctioned this type of behavior, then the leadership in the CIA should also have to answer for it. IF this goes all the way to the White House, heads should roll all the way to White House. The USA should be strong. The USA should be tough. But most importantly, the USA should always be in the right. I believe we, as a people, like to think that we are all of these. If our leadership is leading the USA down a path that our people find repulsive, then we need to change our leaders. I'm not talking about going from Rep to Dem either. I'm talking about backing up the damn truck and clearing the whole stinking lot of them out of office and putting people in office that believe America should always strive for being better and greater. Think of that in the context of a person always striving to improve himself and becoming better person. Our nation should always have that attitude.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) If the Cubs gave up Zambrono or Prior for Tejada, I'd laugh. Phil Rogers is advocating they trade Zambrano to get Tejada. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5157958 Garcia, Uribe, one of our outfield prospects, and a pitching prospect? Way too much to pay for Tejada. First, I don't consider Tejada a "major" upgrade over Uribe. And he definitely isn't worth Garcia and Uribe.

QUOTE(Yoda @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 10:06 PM) Well said. Though it’s pretty much inevitable that people are going to have the initiative of a certain player going somewhere even though most of the time it doesn’t happen. I myself feel sick when thinking about Tejada moving to the North side of Chicago. Tejada in a Cub uniform? Blah! :puke Though it doesn’t hurt to speculate where a player might end up. But in this case, at least for me, it does hurt. I sure as hell wouldn't want Tejada playing for the North Siders. Why? Who cares who plays on the north side?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 06:32 AM) As a Tigers or Blue Jays fan would you prefer to have A.J Burnett and B.J Ryan or Todd Jones and Kenny Rogers for the next few years? Oh and BTW, I'd choose Toronto. Which reinforces my point. Even though the Tigers are getting the "wrong" players, they are getting the the players they can get. And still have to overpay to do so.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 04:35 AM) Yeah but you can overpay for players like the Blue-Jays have done with Burnett who have a much better chance at producing long - term, than the likes of Rogers and Maggs. The point I'm making is that, yeah he's overpaying, but he's overpaying on the WRONG type of players. Blue Jays Tigers Which would you choose?

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 05:44 AM) Yes, he would have been worse. Is Rodrigo Lopez a better pitcher than Millwood because he went 15-12 with a 4.90 ERA last season? Nope, it just means that the Orioles scored more runs for Lopez than the Indians did for Millwood. Do you think that Shawn Estes is a great pitcher because he won 15 games in 2004 with a 5.84 ERA? I hope to God not. Wins are the absolute worst stat to judge pitchers by. I think the Indians would have preferred to score more runs for a guy with a 2.86 ERA. It isn't Millwood's fault that his record sucked last season. He did more than enough to win more than 9 games. It's his offense's fault for not scoring him any runs. That arguement only goes so far. You've heard of situational hitting and clutch hitters? Well, there are situational and clutch pitchers as well. Jack McDowell was one of those guys. If the Sox gave him 5 runs to work with, he would very easily give up 3 or 4, yet if they needed a shutout to win the game, McDowell was good about delivering under those conditions as well. Garcia is an example of a situational pitcher also. The bigger the game, the better he pitches. It's more than just straight ERA vs Win totals.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) The key word there is "trying". The definition of trying to Mike Illitch is to sign players to terribly overpaid deals. Case in point Todd Jones having ERA's of 5.52, 3.79 and 4.97 before the 2005 season. And Kenny Rogers actually had far better home splits then away splits in 2005. He'll be 42 by the time his deal finishes up. But with the market value of starting pitches (hey A.J Burnett will make less than Rogers in 2006 BTW), this was to be expected. Illitch doesn't really have much of a choice. If he wants ballplayers, he has to overpay for them.

QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) I have 2 problems with KW considering Owens for a 4th OF spot: 1. He has never played an out in AAA. I think there is still time in his development to take him there. 2. If Owens is the 4th OF, from everything I have heard he would not be able to play RF. Who does that leave as our back up RF? Mackowiak? I think that the 4th OF should be able to play all 3 OF spots. However, the addition of a guy as versatile as Mackowiak gives you flexibility on the bench. Anderson could move to RF and Owens or Pods step in at CF.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) I am glad we are keeping this real. I would have loved to give my favorite city, my hometown, the gift of a World Series Championship, but they already have one!!!!!! God, I still love saying that. In the next layer of not realistic, there are some great kids that I have had the pleasure of being their Scoutmaster for 5 years that I would love to be able to write a check for their college educations. One in particular has a gift with animals and our world will be a better place with him as a Veterinarian. If I could give him the gift of an acceptance letter to Vet school and pay for it, I would be a happy man. (Vet school is harder to enter than regular medical school) A little more doable, but still not possible, I would love to give to the Scouts a Chapel at Camp Perry. Ours was destroyed over a decade ago, and the funds have not been found to build a new one. We have a couple locations that would be ideal, but there have been other projects more pressing. Closer to home, I would love to buy my son a car. I have a good friend with a special wish this Christmas, who is moving heaven and earth to make happen. I wish I could offer more support and help. And finally, I'd like to buy the world a coke and keep it company I'd like to buy the USA a fence for the southern border.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) Frank Sinatra's Christmas music is some of my favorite out there. The same can be said of Bing Crosby's and Dean Martin's. Um, if this is the place to suggest other music, Damian Marley's new cd is pretty outstanding. Very innovative and well done. Add Perry Como to that list.

YASNY replied to Funkman7's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just received the Topps commemorative set today. Looking though the cards, it dawned on me that Anderson and Jenks have what will probably be rare "first year" cards. I won't say "rookie" as I don't know what their rookie card stati (?) are. Point being, if either one of these guys excels, those cards can be worth some jack down the road. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) So because Tejada was a quitter, they don't want him on this team? Last I checked, yet Carl Everett was the DH of this team for a year and a half after he made some infamous comments to Doug Mientkiewicz Yes, but Everett was right.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) Canseco did say that Tejada was a juicer. Does that make him guilty? NO. However, it does make you suspicious. Hmmm. I missed that little nugget of info.
