  1. I'm sure you must brighten the day of every customer you come in contact with.
  2. Congrats Soxy! Don't spend that pay increase all at once.
  3. Good for Tampa. That franchise was heading nowhere but contraction. I hope they can have some success.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) I ordered mine from Amazon last week. 13.99 > 19.99. Way to fill everyone in Alex. Last time I checked, 13.99
  5. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 12:36 PM) Awesome, that's like 70 miles from me and I'll definitely be at all 3 games. Gage is coming also. Perhaps we could all get tickets together? That would be a blast. Count me in on that, as well.
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 03:45 AM) 1 - Giles numbers have fallen? Power wise yes, but you can thank PETCO Park for that, which is hell for a LH power hitter. Can't argue with a .333/.463/.545 stat line for away games. I read tonight SD have only offered him $21M over 3 years. If I'm a Padre fan after what they did with the Castilla trade today, I'm really pissed off at the Alderson/Towers V.P/GM combo right now. 2 - Acquiring Thome depends on how much Philly's willing to pay. We don't know what they'd demand for Thome compared to Howard, although I've read numerous times, they want good young starting pitching. 3 - He's been mentioned, but I can't see them moving him. Juan Pierre's more likely to be dealt if anybody from that team. 4 - Tracy or Jackson could easily be our DH's for the next 10 years. Tracy's not the best fielder in the world, but he can play 4 different positions, which gives you versatility, and he'd probably only get better in the field in the future. And I think you could get one of those two, by dealing prospects, namely a package starting with Dan Haigwood (an Arizona native) and Gio Gonzalez. I addressed Petco in my post about Giles .... here: As for the rest, I still think PK is the best option.
  7. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 12:45 AM) If it means 5-70? HELL NO Konerko's good...and he's grown on me. I love him. However, he's also grown on Arte Moreno and the entire Anaheim Angels team. They are a little bit more secure financially than I am. Most experts thought the Sox needed Maggs and Caballo going into the season too(how can you lose that much power?!)...how'd that turn out? Losing Konerko could be a blessing in disguise...not because Konerko's bad or that he's not valuable - he was probably the best offensive player for the Sox this year, and would be next year too. However, losing him opens the door for offensive flexibility, and the potential to go in multiple directions this offseason as far as adding offense is concerned. You can look to move Dye to 1B and add an OFer...be it Brian Giles, or Ken Griffey Jr, or whomever. You can look at add a 1Bman via trade(because other than Konerko, there's basically no one that's available in FA). I'll throw a wild card out there for you if the Sox lose Konerko - how about Sean Casey? Losing Maggs and Lee last year is a lot different than losing PK now. We still had a thumper in the middle of our lineup in PK. We won't have that now. Unless you want to get Griffey or Giles. How old are they again? How old will PK be 5 years from now? Interesting point of view. Flexibility? We'd be tied down to a huge contract on either Griffey or giles for about 3 years as opposed to PK for 5. That's 3 years with old dudes too.
  8. Interesting thread. It seems to be taken for granted that we can't/won't resigm Konerko. Either we will be outbid or we would be stupid to sign him to a longterm deal. So, that leaves us with the following options, which have been mentioned... 1. Brian Giles. Sign this 35 year old to a 3 tear deal. Same guy who had us on his no trade list when at Pittsburg. Also, his numbers have taken a nose dive. Park, Age or Roids? Who knows. 2. Jim Thome. He of the bad back and steep contract. We'd be lucky to have him be able to stay healthy as a DH. The odds are even longer that he'd be a healthy 1B. Oh yeah, we want to give up El Duque, Marte and Anderson to get him. 3. Carlos Delgado. Another one that has refused a trade to the Sox. He also has a formidable contract. Also, wqe'd have to trade for him as well. 4. Chad Tracy-Conner Jackson. A couple of kids with good bats and poor gloves. Acquiring these guys gets away from our success formula of pitching and defense. But, give 29 year old Paul Konerko and 6 year deal is dumb. This guy is leader in the Sox clubhouse, regardless of how overrated some people think that may be. Hell, the players were calling him King Paulie because they knew who was carrying the team offensively. Sorry folks. I think Konerko is by far our best option.
  9. You really can't say what the Phillies will or will not do now that Gillick is the GM. He can't really "stand pat" because he has come in and make a statement and shake things up. He'll certainly have some different ideas than Wade, but that they will be at this point is unknown.

    THIS JUST IN!!

    QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 04:49 PM) Daft prick... I heard that in a movie.... Julia Roberts I think. 1st round?
  11. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 04:32 AM) Because of his chronic injuries like his hip condition, IIRC. I doubt the validity of that. I first heard about it two years ago, and haven't notice any degeneration.
  12. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 03:58 AM) I know, but it just amazes that people here are still saying give him whatever he wants when it will cripple us in the future. Why do you assume it will cripple us in the future?
  13. Personally, I hope the Sox approach the Thomas situation by building the team without him in mind, then give him an incentive laden contract and hope he becomes a huge bonus for them.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 01:21 AM) Dustin threw 88-91 all year. The difference is when he's healthy he wasn't hanging his slider, he also said that because of his back he wasn't able to finish his pitches. When you can't finish your pitches you are going to hang a lot of breaking stuff and that's what happened when his back got bad. Exactly. When healthy, Hermanson was a solid, smart, veteran pitcher that knew how to pitch to contact. When hurting, he couldn't locate his pitches as well and therefore got banged around a bit. I am not counting on Hermanson for next year. In fact, it would not shock me if he retired.
  15. QUOTE($I Need Money$ @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) It's about time those geeks at BP get on their knees and worship the White Sox. My god if we bring back paulie and the big hurt hahahah we got a f***ing dynasty going. Forget that dynasty talk. This team was built to succeed without Thomas, and none of our key players went down for any extended periods of time. Health wise, we were lucky.
  16. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) Baseball Prospectus, prior to this season: Guess what motherf***ers, you got.... These guys didn't get any more owned than 99.9% of the baseball prognosticators.

  18. Which begs the question ... Where will the trophy be permanently displayed? Hopefully, it will be publically displayed at the Cell. Has anyone heard anything?
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) He shoots.. he scores!!! Hmmm. It's been awhile.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) Your getting on my nerves today Yas... :rolly It's been a good day.
  21. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) No player on the Bulls roster excites me... They're still my favorite team, but I'll agree that I'm not all thet excited either. Despite what they did last year, I want to see them do it again now that they have some sorts of expectations before I'll say I'm completely buying into the Bulls. I don't look for the Bulls to equal their win total from last year. I think the Curry situation will set them back. Not blaming Pax or Curry, because I believe they both did what they thought was best, but it will still cause the Bulls to backslide somewhat.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) It was a weak effort.. but I tried and that's all that matters. Unless somebody starts being literal.
  23. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) Neener, neener, neener... Pththththth!
