  1. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) Not sure what to make of this. It's not worth dwelling on. Just move on.
  2. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) Haha, I was joking But seriously though, I was surprised no one mentioned we didn't draw a walk I don't say this much, but umpire was giving Meche pitches that Buerhle couldn't dream of getting. I know Mark struggled, but that was ridiculous.
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) Hits a 9th inning HR to knock the Sox out of the playoffs? That would kill me.
  4. QUOTE (rventura23 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:35 AM) Lets not be like Indian fans with Thome, that was embarrassing Well said!
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:29 AM) Cheer him for his first at-bat. Boo him if he does well after that first at-bat. No, I won't ever boo Joe Crede unless he does something like kill somebody.
  6. One more shot at Wise here ... Did anyone else notice that Wise didn't seem to know which way to turn on that bomb to CF that Burls gave up?
  7. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) Standing O...He was a MAJOR part of why we have a 2005 World Title. NO PLAYER on that team would ever be booed by me...they gave me the greatest sporting year of my LIFE...they ECLIPSED Super Bowl 20...for those boys, TO INCLUDE Joe Crede, I am forever thankful to them. I wont ever forget it and ill be damned if Id boo anyone who was part of that 2005 team. I agree he was a major part of that team. I have stated that through the stretch, playoffs and the series he was the MV (position) P. The pitching staff won that for us, but Crede sure as hell came up huge.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:17 AM) So if Getz were to flop in the leadoff spot and have to go back down to the minors, who would be blamed? Everyone blames Ozzie and Walker for Anderson's 2006 season and not Brian himself...so I am just curious? If we screw up the highest draft pick we've had in 15 plus years, who would be blamed? Getz has earned this shot. He was come through the system and as I said, paid his dues. He makes it or he doesn't. I think he makes it, he looks like a ballplayer to me.
  9. I would give Crede polite applause. He was a key factor in the '05 playoff run, but he doesn't rate, imho, the standing O Ventura got when he can back the first time. Robin got screwed over by the Sox and I think the fans wanted him to know that they knew. Don't get me wrong, I was always a Crede fan. In fact, I was one of his most ardent defenders here. But, the sucking vortex we had a 3b between Robin and Joe may have contributed to that.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 08:37 AM) Here's the problem...let's say Ozzie and KW do decide to stick Getz in the leadoff role and he doesn't respond well (like Swisher, who was a veteran player) and he ends up having his whole season ruined. I mean, it's not like having AJ hit 2nd or Cabrera leading off last year were optimal choices, either. Now it's not like Getz is our best prospect, but everyone would be calling for Ozzie's and KW's head if he ended up messed up like BA in 2006, right? It's just as logical to say we should bring up Beckham (he of the most supreme confidence of any player in our organization, majors and minors) and stick him in the leadoff spot, right? I mean, how can one of the Top Ten prospects in all of baseball, and someone who claims he wants to be the "Derek Jeter of the White Sox," not be ready? If anything, Ozzie is showing a willingness to sacrifice a pawn on the chessboard for the good of the team, just like he sacrificed Boone Logan last year. I can just see the outrage if Getz (who has gone to Ozzie and volunteered to lead off) went into the tank...KW would get vilified even more. Why would you want to risk messing up Beckham, whose had what all of what 20 pro games in his career? Getz has paid his dues in the minors and deserves his shot.
  11. As things stand right now, the main key for the Sox is that AJ stays healthy and catches 140-150 games.
  12. Nice job by Lisa Winston on some up and coming players in Sox system. Allen, Beckham, JorDanks, Escobar, Flowers, Getz, Poreda, Richard, Shelby and Viciedo. Add the big 4 of Floyds, JonDanks, Quentin and Ramirez from last year and things appear to be looking rosey for the long term on the south side.
  13. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) ^^^^^^ I agree. Even if we still had Swisher, I wouldn't want him CF.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Excellent numbers so far guys! Keep them coming! Even if we can get up to 15 or 20 people, everyone will get to play for sure. I'm planning on being there, but I'll probably be a spectator unless a body is needed.
  15. Whenever anyone rates a player, they refer to the "5 tools". While that is fine, I happen to think that there is a sixth tool. That's is the one between a player's ears. I think Chris Getz is one of those guys that uses that particular tool very well. I think this guy is a ballplayer.
  16. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) Yea, he is just not a good manager.. at all. I totally disagree with this statement.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 23, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) Here's another thought, does anyone really question Carlton Fisk having his number retired? His average season in a White Sox uniform: 16 hr 58 rbi .257 avg. .329 obp AJP's average season 15 hr 57 rbi .274 avg. .316 obp Fisk's number absolutely s/b retired, even though he only caught over 100 games in a season 6 times for the White Sox. AJ's will never be. What you do elsewhere matters. I also think it shows AJP is not appreciated enough by a lot of people. I'll tell you this much. AJ's appreciated here. He's been a rock for this team. He's a GREAT competitor and a very solid ballplayer. He'll find any way he can to beat you. I hated him as a Twin for same reasons I love him as a Sox.
  18. I am SO ready for the season to start. This spring has dragged out.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 23, 2009 -> 07:10 AM) Well, I haven't seen official word on this, and Lucy is still in camp. So I wouldn't call it a done deal yet. If they were sure, then why didn't they send Lucy over to the minor league camp when they send Flowers and Armstrong over? Not that I think Lucy will light it up in the majors, but, playing part time against mostly LH pitching, I'm fairly certain he'd out-hit Miller by a lot, and give you solid defense as well. Lucy is probably still in camp just to have an extra body behind the plate.
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) I am not sure it was the DL, but I did hear that possibly he might need more time to build up arm strength. I think it was just discussion and there are still thoughts being entertained that he will be reay by opening day. However, early in the season the 5th starter is not as needed as later. Good point. Colon has not been placed on the DL. It's speculation at this point.
  21. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) We fortunately have some flexibility to deal with this. Obviously Alexei has CF experience. However, there's always the possibility of Getz being shifted to 3b. Or Beckham. I think the time's going to come when it's Fields and Viciedo in the LF & DH slots, but obviously it's all in the future. I don't think you'll ever see Fields in LF for the Sox, again. Third, first or gone.
  22. Leave it to the professionals in the marketing department to call for a blackout. It was their idea, let them run with as they see fit.
  23. QUOTE (MEANS @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) Colon on the DL???? What happened did I miss something? Nothing "happened". He's just topping out at about 87 on his fastball. He'll probably need time to get back in pitching shape.
  24. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 05:53 AM) Vancouver has now caught us for 4th place; points and games played are equal. Columbus is lurking, too. Home ice in the playoffs could be in jeopardy. I was afraid of this because the Hawks best players are so young. They haven't got the long term stamina that a 26 year old athlete would have. However, it may prove to be a blessing in disguise if they get their second wind come playoff time.
  25. QUOTE (Sully Baseball @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) Thanks man I know that for all intent and purposes on THIS board, the Sox are White and not Red I know I am a guest in your house Sully, as others have stated it was a great read and other than a few choices, not bad. As for the THIS board comment, I just have to look at the uniforms and caps of the two teams throughout history to determine which team is the Sox.
