  1. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 08:17 AM) CQ needs to come back so Josh can emulate his batting stance alot easier. Josh needs to follow CQ's example and practice his swing "everywhere".
  2. While I agree that Josh's swing looked messed up last night, the thing that I have noticed about him over the past few weeks is that he seems to be consistently "just under it". They say you get an average of one good pitch to hit per at bat, and Josh has fouled that one pitch straight back time and time again. His timing has been right there on those pitches, but he's not centering it. He's below center constantly.
  3. There is no way in hell we would have won that division championship banner without OC. He may have been a jerk, but he did play some damn good baseball last year.
  4. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) Wouldn't the resurgence and move to the 2 hole of Alexei Ramirez make more sense as a major cause for this hot streak than some "shot in the butt" from Podsednik? I mean Alexei's been a much better player and his hot streak lines up a whole lot better with the team's current hot streak. Podsednik wasn't doing a whole hell of a lot in the leadoff spot when this team turned it's play around. I don't really see how getting mediocre production out of the leadoff spot woke up the bats of Dye, Thome and Ramirez especially since Getz was absolutely raking at the top earlier this year. Overall, I don't see why credit has to be given to any one person for this turn around. The bats have come to life, the bullpen is just as solid as it's been all year, the starting rotation has been outstanding and the defense has been solid. Seems like a team wide thing to me. I don't know, maybe having Pods on base with the boppers behind Alexei has been the reason he has come out of his funk. He's got to be feasting on a diet of fastballs. The bottom line is the current combination is working and the bottom of the order is a force as well.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:15 AM) IIRC, the Sox have 9 games in a row in NL parks starting after this homestand. Thome will get plenty of rest. BTW doesn't it make more sense for interleague games since they always are 3 game series to have 2 games using one league's rules and 1 game using the other league's rules depending on the home team instead of always using the home team rules? Unless there has been a change I haven't heard about, the DH rule is solely affected by the home stadium. NL rules in NL stadiums, etc ....
  6. Carlton Fisk was not just an end of his career player for the Sox. He played in more games with Chicago than he did for Boston.
  7. QUOTE (MN_Sox @ May 28, 2009 -> 08:05 PM) From ESPN Website: "Two possible buyers to keep the team in Arizona have surfaced. The NHL says it was about to present Moyes with a letter of intent from Jerry Reinsdorf, owner of baseball's Chicago White Sox and the NBA's Chicago Bulls, to buy the team when Moyes took the league by surprise by declaring Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Attorney Scott Cohen said last week that his client, Las Vegas-based businessman John Breslow, was interested in making a bid to buy the franchise and keep it in Glendale. Asked if Reinsdorf was still interested, Daly said, "I hope so." Any sale to keep the team in Arizona would be contingent on reworking the lease agreement with the city of Glendale, Daly said." I wonder if it did happen how it would affect the Sox and Bulls....Less money to go around??? I take it we are talking about the Coyotes here.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2009 -> 08:49 AM) The media outlets who think Ozzie is a clown are the out of town ones who are too stupid to realize that they are tools in the game of motivating his players. Ozzie is very calculated in his meltdowns, you do notice that they never happen when things are going good, right? You got it right, Mike. Ozzie is as crazy as a fox. I'll tell you this much, I personally respect the hell out of him. I think he knows exactly what he is doing and why he is doing it at all times.
  9. QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ May 28, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) And MacDougal is coming up!! Montz was optioned back to Harrisburg after Wednesday’s game, clearing room for Washington to purchase the contract of pitcher Mike MacDougal(notes) from Syracuse on Friday before the Nationals play at Philadelphia. The Nationals had until Friday to promote MacDougal, a former All-Star closer, or possibly lose him to free agency. Well, that will set the baseball world on it's ear.
  10. Ozzie better be careful or the 'First Fan' will taxing him for methane in the atmosphere.
  11. That game last light was an awesome game to watch. It was just a pleasure to see. The outcome was enjoyable as well.
  12. Tiant was awesome. I always loved to watch him pitch.
  13. QUOTE (JustWin @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) 6 and 3 on the road is a good thing. Even if we lose tonight we'll still have a winning road trip, which is better than many of us expected at the start of it. But then we come home to face a tough Toronto team. Really, though, doesn't it seem as if there are no easy teams in the AL this year? KC is definitely improved and are no pushover, Seattle seems to be doing surprisingly well so far, Toronto is good, Baltimore has been good. Teams that are doing poorly, like the Indians, Angels, and Rangers, still aren't teams you can just kind of assume a win that night. I know any team can beat any other team on any given night, but... Agreed. And the Halliday vs. Contreras game against the Jays doesn't look too promising. Add in the fact that the Jays are relatively hot right now ... we could be wishing we were back in Tampa.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) Yeah, and if I'm not mistaken, Ozzie came just short of saying he was mad at Contreras for not saying anything sooner. Yes, as a matter of fact he did sound annoyed, or I read it that way.
  15. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) That. I will be at the Bulls game so I wont be able to watch the Sox. Let's kill Eaton and have a very solid 6-3 road trip! 6 and 3 on the road is a good thing.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) Oh the irony... You are the one who brought up the Latin American players example. He was pointing out examples to counter that claim. And as for point #3...how do you know that? Talk about manipulating an argument to try and make a point... Oh, and exigencies? In all honesty, though I don't agree with the basis of caufield's arguement, I do recall Ozzie commenting on the fact that Contreras held back info that he wasn't 100%.
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 04:44 PM) Because Gordon Beckham is at all comparable to a meh prospect like Rowand? If you really want to make a comparison go back to Ventura who's probably the most comparable Sox prospect in semi-recent memory to Gordon Beckham. And if Gordon were to hit as well as Crede did during his first 200+ AB stint with the Sox I'd take it. I'm also confused as to why Beckham needs to be compared to past Sox prospects (none of which were as highly regarded as Gordon) as opposed to someone like Ryan Zimmerman. If I remember correctly, Robin came up blazing with a 0 for 41 start.
  18. I enjoy reading good reports on our minor leaguers as much as the next guy, but this seemed to be like he was looking through rose colored glasses.
  19. I've seen the Sox play in 5 ballparks, and 3 of them are no longer in existance. Those would be old Comiskey, Tiger Stadium and the Old Busch Satdium. The other two are the Ballpark in Arlington and of course, the Cell. I wish they'd schedule the Sox back in St. Louis soon. Why do we always play the Pirates and never the Cards?
  20. If KW is looking for a CF, that tells me that he doen't believe BA can do the job.
  21. QUOTE (maggliopipe @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 10:18 AM) Obviously not the most important thing, but I'm curious what others think about grass mowing patterns. I'm kind of sick of the Cell's plain stripe pattern in the grass. This is no commentary on the Sodfather's fine field or the quality of his grass or drainage system, just the pattern in which it's cut. I like, for instance, what Citi Field looks like, kind of a plaid look. Fenway has a nice pattern (which they switch up with some frequency, so I liked what I happened to see last year). I like the team logos painted behind home plate or mowed into the outfield. It would be difficult to put the script Sox in the OF, but what about the sock logo? I also dig Comerica's dirt path between home and the mound. Honestly, I care about that as much as I care what number Scotty Pods will wear if he gets called up.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:42 AM) I am a huge Robin fan myself and I know some people would freak out about this, but despite Robin's 10 good years with the Sox, their might be an argument to be made that JD has put up better numbers and has been more valuable to the Sox during his time. I'll take Robin's 10 good years of holding down 3B over Jermaine. People look at numbers and forget about the leather.
  23. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 11:05 PM) any reason why Ricky Seilheimer was the last sox player to wear #6? I've heard there are secret plans to retire the number in honor of Jorge Orta.
