  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) #8: Albert Bell over Bo Jackson... oh the memories of Bo. But the right choice. #12: AJ ("Steve Lyons likely lost crucial votes by dropping his drawers in Detroit. " ) #23: Robin Ventura - No doubt on that, even with JD. Robin was the man) #45: Carlos Lee over Bobby Jenks? I dont think so. All good choices except #45, IMO. Other than that, it kinda makes we cry when you look at recent "one year wonders" who are now the best to have worn the number. Shows how BAD this franchise was for a period of time. Give Bobby two more good years, and there won't be any room for discussion.
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) Hawk gets to me with his aggrandizing of some of players. It seems every other game we get a statement like this: "Over the last [#] years [so and so] has been one of, if not the best [some intangible quality] hitters/pitchers/fielders in the American League." Like he's at all qualified to make a statement like this. I have to ask, why would you consider Hawk unqualified to make such a statement?
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) I'm hoping BA can quiet the naysayers. I'm sure plenty will be all over him if he fans his first AB today, but of all the White Sox younger OFs the last couple years, he's the most talented and has had the least amount of opportunity. I think he's a potential stud. I think he will hit enough. I just hope he can stay healthy. I'm going on the record by saying I'm in complete agreement with this.
  4. I can't believe I just read over 3 pages of people arguing about what damn number Scott Podsednik might wear if he possibly gets called up.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) I'm not a big fan of this line of thinking. What if they play baseball for another 500 or 2000 years? A hitter first reached 300 career HR 84 years ago and 300 in a career hasn't become prevalent until relatively recently so it didn't take very long for a feat such as this to take place. If Major League Baseball exists for even another 500 years then baseball history as we know it will be a mere drop in the bucket. The odds that it happens again are so slim. Two batters hitting the same landmark home runs in back to back at bats. That's all I was saying.
  6. QUOTE (Maverick0984 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) Much less, back-to-back. I doubt that it will ever be done again.
  7. I don't think we have to worry about any lingering effects with Q's wrist.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) I think Twins fans have seen a bit of how much Crede has eroded in the past few years. I couldn't believe Crede didn't get Thome's foul pop up at the tarp. He should have been able to make that catch with his eyes closed. It's not like he didn't know where the tarp was.
  9. I watched a replay of the game that Sandburg went deep twice off of Bruce Sutter on MLBN yesterday. There was an incident in that game that I guess you would call a foreshadowing of things to come. Fly ball into the left field corner, Gary Mathews jumps at wall in foul territory and a fan gets between Sarge and the ball. So much like the Bartman incident. Mathews even expressed his displeasure at the incident, just like Alou did.
  10. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 09:32 AM) This is just wrong..... Dead Goat Hung at Wrigley Field Cub fans are very strange people.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 07:57 AM) I was living on the North Side at the time. It was pretty surreal walking up and down Halsted, Lincoln, Clark and seeing absolutely no visable signs that the White Sox were even in the postseason. It was if I was the only Sox fan on that side of town. If I didn't know I was in Chicago, one might have thought I was walking around Lincoln, Nebraska instead of Lincoln Ave. Anyways, good read. One of the few that seems to actually accurately capture the life of a White Sox fan... Your last sentence nailed it. That's why I felt compelled to share this article here.
  12. Don't miss this great article on the just started ESPN Chicago site.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) You could add Jaime Navarro there too. Good idea.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) I love BA. I don't even know why, because he can't hit for s***...but I just love having him in our dugout... I'd rather he be in CF than the dugout.
  15. I concur. I think MLBTV is excellent.
  16. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 02:33 AM) I'm surprised Sox fans didn't mention Rolls Royce Clayton with all the hate they have for him. Along with Jamie Navarro.
  17. I plan on being there but as a spectator unless needed in pinch. Then you can hide me wherever on the field. LOL
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) I would but they seem to think Wise will rake RHP. I'm a huge fan of BA, but when he gets his opportunity this year, he's going to have to put up or shut up. He must hit. I think he will. Yep. It's now or never for BA. But like you, I think he'll do the job.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) I agree with you 100% about the Getz comment, but don't you think if they are going to move Wise that far down they're better of putting BA in due to his superior D? I'd have him there for D regardless.
  20. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) From where I was sitting it looked like Buerhle was getting squeezed early and that ran up his pitch count. A.J. was not moving his mitt and the pitches were called balls. Getz has great range. Thome is not clutch...oh wait...scratch that The pen looks really solid. I feel bad for Wise but they need to end that experiment sooner rather than later. Weather was great in the sun, not sure about the shady folks. Real good crowd. The team is slow 4-7 everyone knew that all along. I don't know about Getz's range. He made the plays, and knew where to throw but I reserve judgement on his range as of now.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) The wind got a hold of that ball. He's not a very good CF but I don't blame him for that play. It took off. Ok, I hadn't considered that. I just know what I thought as I watched him try and track it down
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) yeah, he's not a very good CF which is why I think if BA and Wise are going to give you basically the same thing at the plate it makes much more sense to me to have BA play because he is a much better defender. I still have no idea why the hell Wise was still in CF in the 9th. Agreed on all points.
  23. After giving this some thought, I'd go with Ramirez leading off, and leave Getz in the 2 hole. I'd bat Fields 8th and Anderson 9th.
  24. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Okay turns out now I am ditching my grandparents to actually go to the game tonight. At least you're not ditching them for the Fast and the Furious.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) Joe will get a nice tribute from the crowd, I have no doubt about that. But, but, but .... he's a damn Twinkie now!
