  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 11:47 PM) I echo your sentiments, except the Crede part obviously. Fair enough. On that note, I let things be as they are. Have a good night.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 11:44 PM) You can say it sucks, but "he helped us win in 2005" is not legitimate reasoning as to why it sucks. So I would say your saying my opinion sucks sucks more than my opinion. Again, your opinion sucks. I'm not even saying you suck. I'm showing you more respect than you are Joe Crede. I may have rethink that stance, though.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 11:39 PM) I love Dye, but I’ll contend there’s a strong case to be made for Crede being the World Series MVP. He was definitely the MVP of the stretch run and the post season. No doubt in my mind about that.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 11:39 PM) My opinion of Joe Crede will not change. I will appreciate what he did in 2005, but realize at the same time what kind of player he actually was during his time on the south side. For teams, I do the same thing. But since you can't actually measure wins and losses with individual players, I look at their personal numbers. And Joe Crede's numbers say he was a slightly below average offensive player overall while in Chicago, and a plus defender. My opinion of your opinion will not change. It sucks.
  5. Crede may not be the player he once was, and he wasn't great with us by any means. But the man played a huge role in the stretch and post season run in 2005 and I believe he deserves a bit more respect than just saying he sucks. When the Sox hold a reunion of the team in 2025, you young guys will be hitting your feet for Joe Crede because you will remember what he did and it's very possible that 2005 may be the only World Series victory you have ever experienced at that time. I was 47, almost 48, years old when I saw my first Sox WS Championship. I appreciate those guys. Each and every one of them. Crede, more than most.
  6. Without Joe Crede there is no way the Sox win the 2005 World Series. Hell, they may not have even made the post season. So yeah, he sucks.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) He won't retire when the contract offers come in... it's not often you can set up generations of your family financially by hanging around for a few more years in an occupation. At 32, he'll be in high demand, and hopefully extended, again, with the White Sox. I'm inclined to believe this will be the result as well, but Mark does seem to be his own man and march to the beat of a different drummer. So, it wouldn't shock me too much if he did walk away.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) I'd s*** if we got Halladay. What's his contract status regarding a NTC? He has one.
  9. OK, I was reading about Paulie's 3 dingers on the Sox site and I saw this in the comments after the story ... FWIW, from someone named _Dylan_:
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 03:17 AM) Why? The talk is valid. Beckham is a more valuable bat at 2B and Fields has been showing his power stroke again. Getz and Nix have been playing better lately, but I think Fields has more upside than either and has shown enough potential previously (his .788 OPS in 400 PA in 2007) to deserve every chance possible to succeed. My biggest problem with Fields is that he seems to have that "deer in headlights" look that Joe Borchard had.
  11. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_minor...agues_and_teams actually it interesting there are only 10 minor league teams here in the 4 state radius. (IL, WI, MI, IN) Illinois - Kane County Cougars (Low A)- Oakland Athletics - Peoria Chiefs (Low A)- Chicago Cubs Wisconsin - Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Low A)- Milwaukee Brewers - Beloit Snappers (Low A)- Minnesota Twins Michigan - Great Lakes Loons (Low A)- Los Angeles Dodgers - Lansing Lugnuts (Low A)- Toronto Blue Jays - West Michigan Whitecaps (Low A)- Detroit Tigers Indiana - Indianapolis Indians (AAA)- Pittsburgh Pirates - Fort Wayne Tincaps (Low A)- San Diego Padres - South Bend Silverhawks (Low A)- Arizona Diamondbacks Ohio has 6 teams, Missouri has only 1, Minnesota has 0. There is a minor league team in Marion, IL. I don't recall the team name or affiliation, if any. Edit to add: The team name may be the Miners.
  12. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 02:17 AM) Becks can hold the #3 spot in the batting order until the Q comes back from IR. What's IR?
  13. Beckham is on the team right now and playing very well, so I can't argue about they way the Sox handled him. Whatever they did seems to have worked. I'll take that.
  14. Beckham has no more value at 2B than he does at 3B if we can't find someone to play 3B. We aren't trading him, so trade value is not an issue. If we can put a player at 2B, with Beckham at 3B then that's what we need to do. So far, in my opinion, Getz has proven to be more valuable than Fields ... so Gordo at 3B is our best option right now.
  15. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) some of them can make the point we don't have a team good enough to compete with the Yankees or Red Sox, and I'd agree with that. If we want to be World Series contenders, we're gonna have to improve this team some how. We don't have to compete with the Yankees or Red Sox for a 162 games, just a 5 or 7 game series if we make it. I'll take my chances.
  16. Props to Alexei ... for the dinger and the huge force at third with the sacks loaded.
  17. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 09:04 AM) He gives players-esp. vets- plenty of time to make the changes [be they personal or professional]. If they can't, then Ozzie knows its time to go to Kenny and make a move. I look at Javy as a prime example. Swisher, too. Swisher was given plenty of rope-probably too much. Cabrera as well. I know people may disagree about his handling of Anderson, prior to this year. But anderson even agreed he made some changes to his approach to the game. This year, BA has been given every opportunity to prove he's an everyday player. I don't know if he's made the sale, at least for the sox who need a bit more from him than he's showed. BA has been given the opportunity and if he doesn't step up, he'll be on the Nats or Padres or whoever.
  18. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 08:51 AM) Ozzie is laying the groundwork for Alexei to make the necessary corrections-telling Alexei clearly what he needs to do in order to improve. Alexei has the 2nd half of 2009 to make those corrections or he may not be around for 2010. Alexei no doubt has the tools. Its just the brains/ attitude/ makeup that are in question. Yep, I agree. That's one of the reasons I think Ozzie's a good manager. He looks at the long term and manages accordingly.
  19. You generally get what you pay for, if you're lucky. If anybody wants to take a shot at those $25 dollar jerseys and report back to us, feel free.
  20. Ah Corky, we hardly knew ya!
  21. Ozzie and Cora saw something in Alexei that led them to believe he could be a SS, and those two know something about middle infielders. So, Alexei must have the tools but unless he can keep head out of his ass he'll be lacking there. I believe it's a matter of self discipline and I just don't know that he can overcome this issue. As for the negative comments about Juan Uribe, let me remind you we won a WS and a division championship with him in the starting line-up, the latter of which there is no way we would have won if we had jettisoned Uribe instead Ozuna as some around here wanted to do last year.
