  1. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) So Ozzie replaced Floyd with Thome, but then put in Fields cuz Marshall came in?? I know this gets done in NL parks alot, but Thome is not some scrub hitter, why not just let him bat vs the lefty? Just seems like such a waste. Agreed. I'd have let Thome bat.
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) I just got home, turned on the game, and sure enough BOMB! ALEXEI! YES! HELL YES! Well by all means, keep watching!
  3. QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) no. its not even a pitcher's duel. its whose offense can out suck eachother's less duel I enjoy a good low scoring game as much as, if not more, than a slugfest. When runs are at a premium, then you are playing baseball.
  4. QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) God damnit this game is boring In the same way no-hitters are boring?
  5. I guess nobody else picked up on that Gossage discussion.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) You mean other then the Getz error and Alexei bobble... LOL
  7. Did Hawk just cut off Stone when they were talking about Gossage? I think Hawk thought Stomey was going to say too much.
  8. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) Miss f***ing Cleo! Who, in their right mind, would miss f***ing Cleo?

    Sox Win

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) And he really is a good guy, who's easy to root for. I'll go so far as to say he deserves his wife's hotness. Nah ... he's good, but he's not that good!
  10. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) I thought I remember some talk last year (or maybe the year before) about not having the usual 6 intra-city games and only having one series. What if the Sox and Cubs only played when the AL Central and NL Central played? Probably not frequent enough, but those games would be amped. As a Sox fan and a baseball fan, I love these games and the rivalry. It's good for the game and I don't want to see it end or be diminished in any way.
  11. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) That was one of the most satisfying Sox over Cubs wins I've been to in a while. I always love stealing one at Wrigley. The suicide squeeze? C'mon! That was the kind of smallball I love. I have to say though: it was the least charged and, at first, most sparsely attended Cubs/Sox I've been to. Maybe it was the rainout, maybe it was 'cause it was on a weekday but the playoff atmosphere was just not there yesterday like it usually is. Made getting a seat easy, but it was noticeable. Maybe it'll pick up at the Cell. Maybe they'll get back to scheduling all the crosstown games on the weekend, like they should, instead of trying to have the midweek sell outs they thought they'd have.

    Cincinnati

Well, I won't be going to Cinci. The "main" reason I was going is unable to go, if you catch my drift. So I'll spend some time with my son this weekend on beautiful Kentucky Lake. Either way, it's going to be a good weekend.

Thanks to all for the replies. This could be a very special weekend for me and I'll take all the help I can get.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) All the good bars in Cincy are either in Mt Adams (their lincoln park about 2 miles outside of DT), or across the river in KY. I would recommend staying directly downtown or across the river depending on prices. You can literally walk or drive to the park with no issue. And ILL be there so you can buy me a beer if you show up. I'll be camped at hofbrauhaus before the game. Rock, if we cross paths I'll gladly buy you a beer.
  15. I'm considering going to Cinci for the Saturday and Sunday games this weekend. Anybody have any recommendations as far as a good, reasonable hotel that's located near that ballpark? Any other type of advice would we be welcome as well ... bars, restaurants, etc.
  16. Cub fans get upset when Ozzie talks about his dislike for Wrigley. Are these the same morons that repeatedly trash the field when an umpire's call goes against the Cubs? They are certainly showing how much respect they have for the game and ballpark when they do that. It's an embarrassment to the city.
  17. I saw this note at the Trib site and noticed Josh Phegley was still open to be "adopted". I'll post this note, but anyone is open to adopt Josh if they want to. Edit to add the link.
  18. There's a lot of Wise hate on here. You'll rarely hear me say this about anybody, but I agree. Wise needs to go. He brings nothing to the team and he's wasting a roster spot.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) It wasn't aimed at anyone person. It was a general statement of frustration that has been because of a long history of being compared to WSI everytime we try to fix on-going problems. To be honest, you haven't posted a lot, so you wouldn't even be in my mind to think of. I think the phrase "general statement of frustration" sums up my feelings quite well.
  20. I read the first page of this thread and believed I had read enough to where I can opine. As I read PHT, in general, by the time I reach the end of a thread I have usually rolled my eyes several times and just flat believe that there is no need, nor do I have desire to comment on the garbage that I read. It gets pretty disgusting at times. I have gone from someone that was a very active PHT poster to someone rarely bothers anymore, even though I read it fairly regularly. The degeneration of Soxtalk post quality has been ongoing for quite some time. This is not, and I repeat not, just a result of the team's poor play this season. The Sox won the division championship last year, but the amount of vitriol was still over the top all season long. A little restraint, decorum, politeness and thoughtfulness can go a long way.
  21. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 03:31 AM) Just compare the way Ozzie talks about Wise not producing and Beckham not producing in his first 4 games. It's beyond ridiculous. Ozzie is a f***in nut job. Whether you like Ozzie or not, it's a scary thought to have him managing some of these young guys with in the next few years. I would be more than surprised if Ozzie's "ridiculousness" was nothing more than him feeling Wise is being unfairly villified by the fans and the fans love affair with Beckham is unwarranted. Think about it. In the Wise thread a lot of people have the opinion it's not fair to boo Wise as he's being as to do more than he is capable of. Then you have Gordo, who has yet to prove anything on the major league level. Now Ozzie is not a dumbass fan. He knows that there has been many hyped prospects fall well short of being productive major leaguers. Think Joe Borchard. So Ozzie tries to take the heat off of Wise and reign in the undeserved adulation Gordo's receiving. In fact, that knob slobbing the fans are doing on Beckham may very well lead to him failing if he lets expectations turn into pressure. There are some dumbass fans that need to lighten up on both accounts, and Rowand44 I'm not pointing at you. It's a general expression of my opinion and not directed at any individual. Now if any you think the shoe happens to fit, then by all means, wear it.
