QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) the double standard has been around forever. stop using your energy on it, it's not going away. It should. Why shouldn't we stop b****ing about it? If enough people were brave enough to b****, and call people out on it, it would go away.

Nba officials told to prepare for a lockout.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) With the Bulls finally turning it around after 6 seasons of utter futility, you better believe it I'll be damned furious if they miss playing time. I just can't believe that people would be so stupid as to risk 2 work stoppages in 6 years. I think these guys will figure something out. Remember like 2 years ago in MLB, when it seemed almost certian that there would be a 2nd strike, and at the last minute they worked something out? I bet something like that will happen in the NBA. Last second they'll work something out. The only problem with my theory is that if there is a lockout, they don't immediately start losing games, so that makes the lockout a little more likely, and once its started it gets even harder to stop. There was a reason MLB worked something out. The fans in the stands, all across the country, sent those stupid SOB's a long loud clear message. As the deadline toward the work stoppage approached fans becoma more and more vocal and beligerant ... booing every player ... turning their backs on the game in the stands ... people were pissed and they let MLB and MLBPA know about it. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 02:51 AM) One of the reasons the Wild Card teams have done so well the last few years is that the Wild Card is almost always very highly contested. That tends to select out the hottest team going into the playoffs. So you get the Marlins, the BoSox, the Angels, all of them when they're on fire. Conversely, the thinking is, if a team wrapped up their division a month ago, then they can get rusty. You can find examples of division winners who wrap up early who perform well and division winners who perform poorly. Atlanta wrapped it up early last year, and they came out terrible in the playoffs. St. Louis wrapped it up as early as anyone, and they came out & made the world series. On the other hand, the Angels won a very, very close division last year, with Vlad the Impaler carrying them to the end, and then they hit the Red Sox & were blown apart. There's just no science to it. Sometimes it helps your team to wrap up early because you can rest your starters. Sometimes it hurts because you're rusty. Until I see this team in October, I won't have a clue which one is better. I don't think there' sa formula to tell which way it'll be. Nice post. That about sums it up.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 02:53 AM) Ross Gload. We didn't have Gload up in 2003. Gload was a bench player in 2004. Erstad would have been in the lineup somewhere. But, regardless, it's a moot point.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) and its the only other place other than the Cell that he has hit a homerun. Strange. AJ hit one in Texas.

I used to put Honus Wagner cards in bicycle spokes. He wasn't a Sox player.

People need to lighten up on the post count thing. It doesn't need a damn thing. As for this thread, I hadn't realized that we had that much of a lead, and I would have guessed the WC leader would not have been Texas. Pertinent info is cool.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 01:56 AM) Back when Jesus was playing 1st base right? Was he the starter at 1B before Tommy McCraw?

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 01:49 AM) Why would a mediocore erstad have put us over the top and into the playoffs? This guy is extremely overpaid (7.5 this year and 8.5 the next). He also has a no trade clause included into his contract and i will never understand why. His career ops+ is 98 and his career high is 137. The last four years it looks like this. 2001- 78. 2002- 88. 2003- 75. 2004- 95. :puke Erstad was a decent LH stick, something we lacked, and was also a good defensive player. Garland would have had to have been replaced in the rotation, no doubt about that. I'm not saying it's carved in stone, but Erstad was no slouch.

I'm 47 years old and never recall not being a Sox fan. I'd have to pin it to 1963 or 64 as to when I really started paying attention.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) One thing to keep in mind: If we win the division and the twinkies win the wild card, we play them in the first round If we lose the division to them and still win the wilkd card, we still play them in he first round Who focking cares? PS: This post assumes the White Sox or Twinkies will be best team in AL if they wint he division. Incorrect. We would NOT play the Twins in the first round because they are in our division.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) We should have traded Jon Garland to the Angels for Darren Focking Erstad :finger I was thinking about that trade a few days ago. Realistically, that trade might have gotten us a division title or two bye now. Of course, today, that non-trade looks good for the Sox.

still doubt timo in the utility role, haters?

QUOTE(robin_ventura_eternal @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 01:28 AM) no im not. like i said above, if i used eloquent english and said please, it would still be the same call out to provoke discussion. im seriously sorry that you and gene and whoever else feel that way, but im not talking about ethnic cleansing here. theres no controversy even really, since we are all sox fans. i cant believe that you are so offended by me calling a trade idea stupid or saying that timo aint so bad. yes, you are. You admitted as much in the first post of yours that I quoted. Hey. You do what you want. This will all work itself out, whether you are around here to post or not. Just don't say that you haven't been giving a friendly warning about the possible consequences. -
Navarro. No ifs, ands or buts about it. Not only did he suck, he blamed everybody else for his failures. I was never so glad to see a player leave the Sox.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 01:07 AM) I only bring it up because I saw a lot of posts hemming and hawing about the fact that we can't pull away from Minny ( myself included ) but I got to thinking and its not such a bad thing IMHO to have someone back there pressing us. I like Ozzie's point of view on this. We don't have to worry about Minnesota if we just keep winning. The pressure is on them.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 12:58 AM) Yansy has spoken. BEWARE! Just some friendly advice. -
Really, it's way too early to start considering the consequences of whether a large or small lead will have an effect on us during the playoffs.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) But that won't be good enough for some people because one of those were against the cubs. :headshake :fthecubs This is all about the White Sox!

QUOTE(robin_ventura_eternal @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 12:51 AM) you are right, but do you know why? because my scenario was a JOKE. so many people have their panties in a damn twist cause i egged them on about timo. i love it. As far as I'm concerned, you were doing fine until this post. If you really liked Timo's game and wanted to defend him, that's all well and good. But since yo are basically saying that you posted this for the express purpose of yanking people's chains, then you are out of line and approaching troll status. Be careful. -
I've got to go with '83. That staff was awesome. '93 was good, but Hoyt, Dot and Banny were just monsters that year. This current staff is capable of surpassing that team.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) Before you all flame away there is a method to my madness. Back in 2000 we basically won the division in April and May and took the rest of the year off and it showed when Seattle totally schooled us in the playoffs. We got complacent with a big division lead and we fell asleep as a team. Ideally Id like to see Minny stay 3-5 games back for the rest of the season. That way they keep the Sox honest. If that's the case we'll go into the playoffs sharp and on our toes as opposed to 2000 when we basically backed into the playoffs. I'll be happy if the fold starting September 15th.

6-1 record on interleague road games this year. Can't b**** about that. Here's hoping we make it 7-1 tonight.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 06:44 AM) I would like to point out that the moderating team is a large cross section of Soxtalk. Not everyone is an old fart like YASNY. With that comes a very healthy debate on the back side of how to make this site friendly for a wide range of posters. We have created forums and sub forums with this in mind. Some posters have a majority of posts in forums other than Pale Hose Talk. Others, never stray from White Sox Baseball threads. We hope there is room for everybody who wishes to be friendly, courteous, and kind. We have many examples of heated debates that did not step over and become rude. Unfortunately, we have some current threads, over silly topics, that have become rude to the point of needing to be closed. I've always used the party analogy. You come to the party, meet a few people, make a couple "friends", share some stories, hell get drunk and sing Brandy, Your a Fine Girl, at the top of your lungs and no one will care. Get drunk, call the guy next to you an idiot, piss in the corner, disrespect the guy who is throwing the party, and you *will* be leaving. Sometimes until you sober up, sometimes when many pages from the calendar have turned. If you think while suspended you can come in through the bedroom window, protected by a silver spoon, it will be a very long time before you are welcomed back. And normally when the drunk is tossed out, the party gets better. That's what's wrong with society today ... no respect for your elders.
