QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) I don't see Contrereas missing a start so this may all be moot discussion. I agree with you. But this could be a good time to shuffle our rotation to get someone between the El Duque and Jose.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) Rodgers is no better than Orton in my opinion. Both of them will be sitting on the sidelines learning for at least 2 years. The only difference is the Packers have to pay first round money and take a huge salary cap hit while he is sitting as a back up to Brett Favre. Our first round pick will be running through their swiss cheese defense. Williams is a very strange pick. Why would the sign Pollard in the offseason to go along with Roy Williams and Charles Rogers only to use a high first round pick on a slot receiver? He is not Randy Moss. He is not someone that you will bring in with Chris Carter and Jake Reed and just send him deep for home runs. Silly pick if you ask me. Value? HOW? I understand what you are a saying, that they got value because they fell further than they should have. However, if they don't fit and fill their needs how does it add to THEIR value? Their respective teams are really no better off today as they were before the draft. You answered your own "HOW" question. That's all I was saying. The Packers do NEED a QB to train to be BF's replacement. It's not a bad pick because he won't play this year. How many Rothlisbergers (sp?) are there?

Majors .... hands down

Detroit and Green Bay got real value out of their 1st round picks. Two weeks ago, Rodgers was supposed to be the number 1 overall pick, and Williams was at the top of Kiper's board.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 09:14 AM) No, as the future "Sox ace", as he has been hailed. To come up to pitch one game in this situation when there are other options is silly. I agree. But Hermy shouldn't be that option. Skipping Contreras in the rotation due to the off day is the best option. We need Hermy to anchor that bullpen.
-
C'mon Bull ... fill us in. We are all concerned.
-
I hope Bull drops by and let's us know how he's doing.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 09:05 AM) Somebody needs to let Ozzie in on this. And why BMAC anyway, I thought Hermanson could handle these situations. Don't want to mess with Hermy unless it's absolutely necessary. He's too valuable where he is.

A good bye gift from old man winter.

Texsox, there are somethings that you cannot change. This appears to be one of those. All you can do is move on.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) That's total bs, he's done nothing to make the errors he made public in the United States and none of you would eve know about this had I not posted it. And the mad cow thing was done by investigative reporters, that's what they do, they dig up stories. They're not about to and they're not going to apologize for anything, especially since they are probably right. This and the mad cow thing have nothing to do with each other. Not only wouldn't we know about this, but we also wouldn't care. Of course, that's all changed now.

Awful Experience at Sox Park (Cellular Field)

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) Dos Equis is the most boring beer out there, blah I went to Cancun once. I was on the tarmac at the airport on a HOT HOT day. Got on the tourist bus to go to the resort. They had a cooler full of Dos Equis on ice. I've been a fan of Dos Equis ever since. That one particular beer was one of the best beers I've ever had. -
QUOTE(Wanne @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) Kruk is an idiot! What makes this tub O' Goo a knowledgable source?!? Harold Reynolds, by comparison.
-
I don't see why they'd call BMac up to make that start when the schedule allows them to just skip Jose's turn in the rotation.
-
As the bell rang ... I said "Orton". I was sitting there thinking that Turner would be familiar with this guy. I like this pick.

Ordonez calls Sox skipper his 'enemy'
YASNY replied to South Side Fireworks Man's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 08:41 AM) Absolutely Maggs should shut up. But if Ozzie really has no control over his emotions -- so that for the umpteenth time he just can't help himself b/c he saw something in the press or didn't like the look he got (Showalter, Maggs, which ump was it last year?) -- then he's not cut out to manage a team. I'm not saying he shouldn't respond to Maggs -- but doing it this way, cursing out someone and threatening them, is just embarrassing. There have been lots of intense managers, guys w/ a chip on their shoulder -- but the only outburst I can think of that compares to Ozzie's is Lee Elia's -- which has made Lee Elia a one-line joke (to everyone but Sox fans, of course). I've been looking around for something just as embarrassing from Lou Piniella, who's got (or had) an edge, if anyone does, and I can't find anything comparable. Ozzie KNOWS this is coming from the press, he can't be so dumb as to be "blindsided". So we don't see eye to eye on this. So be it. -
Ordonez calls Sox skipper his 'enemy'

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 07:56 AM) Sorry, I'd rather not have the team follow that example, responding to everything w/ 'Piece of s***, I can f you over good.' Ozzie is one sorry-ass example. You know, I really see your point. But this team has been so lifeless and playing with no heart for the past 3 or 4 years that I really don't care how it looks to the media. As long as the team plays with an edge and keeps winning, that's what matters. Sure, Ozzie took it to an extreme. OK. The guy got pissed and rightfully so. Ozzie is what Ozzie is and that's what we are going to get from time to time. He doesn't "respond to everything" that way. He responded to Maggot Ordonez blindsiding him in the press when Ordonez should be keeping his mouth shut. -
My guess is that it's in Hawks contract that he gets that mid game break.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) I agree. We could start by acknowledging that a couple million migrant workers come to the US every year, stay for 8 or 9 months, then return to Mexico without hurting anyone, taking someone's job they want, planting bombs, etc. Employers need them, they need the employers. We are far safer when we have prosperous neighbors than starving neighbors. We should fear economic ruin before bombs. We are borrowing hundreds of millions of dollars every year from foreign banks and countries. The next act of terrorism will be financial. Do we really think Bin Laden would send terrorists into the country with nothing more than a gallon water jug and the clothes on their backs? I really think the next attack will come into the US over the Mexico border.

I don't know much about Crosby, but this could backfire big time. For example, what if the Sox had done this with Caruso after his rookie season?
-
I find it ironic and amusing that Randy Johnson only wanted to go the Yankees. I hope they finish in last place.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) This is hilarious... The Official™ Yankees/Jaret Wright/What the @#$@#$!!!!! Thread over at BTF I said before the off season free agents signings started happening that Jon Leiber would be the best pitching value on the market and the Sox should go after him. The only one at this point that I'd consider a possible better value would be El Duque. So all is good.

After reading the Sox gamethread tonight, the Cubs let that Sisco kid (pun intended) go as Rule V draftee. Ya think they may be regretting that move?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) I assume you are talking about Kentucky and I agree 100% a well armed militia, tanks rumbling down the streets, helicopters flying over head 24/7/365, armed checkpoints when leaving, fingerprint checks, national IDs, brave patriotic volunteers, searches and detainment without probable cause, guilty until proven innocent, make it right cozy to live there If you are talking about the US, we have close to 20,000 miles of border to patrol, both land and sea. How much money are you willing to spend on the people and equipment necessary to accomplish that? Should we stop vacationers? Foreign workers? If we are trying to stop terrorists from getting in, how can we allow tourism and work visas? Interesting that every President has either looked the other way or made it easier for foreign workers from our bordering countries to be here. From the great Ronald Reagan to George W. Bush, they all have embraced these workers. Are they idiots, or maybe have a bigger picture of what is a risk and what is not? I never said I had all the answers. If I did, I'd give Hillary a run for her money in '08. But we do need more effective border control. Somehow.
