  1. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) It's a shame that we didn't have the chance to trade Valdez to the Pirates but I doubt we would have gotten anything of value. Apparently, they didn't think highly enough of him to claim him, or they decided on another direction. Wait, I might be making an incorrect assumption here. I assumed the Pirates finished below the Mets last year and would have had first shot at him. But, I'm not very sure at all that is the case. I'm also too damn lazy to go look it up. As Bill Murray said in "Meatballs" ... "It just doesn't matter."
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 06:13 PM) Not to stir the pot here, but because Pierzynski was non tendered by the Giants, does he fall under those same no-trade rules, i.e. can't be traded until June? For the record, I think the column was baseless and without merit. Some time after my posts on the subject, that exact thought crossed my mind. I don't know the answer, however.
  3. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) And they lost, now Sparks is back in Muhlenburg crying while the Spartans march on. No reason to be that way about it. You guys won. Cool. Be graceful about it.
  4. QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) At first I thought, "Whoopty Do." But now I think it's kinda cool. It'd be a nice quiet place to live. It would be difficult to get arrested for disturbing the peace. (ticket to hell PUNCHED)
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 10:22 AM) True, but looking at video of Frank, I think he looks more in shape this year that the past, so I believe in his work ethic. I think part of the reason that he may be in a hurry to get back is the positive press that has come from the steroid hearings. Now everyone knows that he is a model of someone who hasnt juiced, and has been HOF-worthy without it. Now I think he knows if he is successful this season, he may not only generate a paycheck but be thought of in a more positive light. I'm not questioning Frank's work ethic. It's just sometimes, nothing but time can truly heal.
  6. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) I predict Baseball tonight guys pick the Sox in 3rd place..... Hiyo!!!!!!!!
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) on sportsnite they said his calf was back to its regular size, and Walker said he was killing the ball, he just cant run at full speed yet. This offseason he still worked on his upper body with A-row. Back when he injured his tricep he was not able to work out his upper body at all which hurt his muscle memory and his fast-twitch muscle fiber that is used at the plate. I think he will be strong this year, and will have more RBI's than we think. I hope you are right, but this could be a case of the Sox blowing so much smoke up our collective asses.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) Its not his job to focus on getting runs. The pitchers job is to focus on getting outs. I think if the pitcher is worried about how many runs the offense is getting he isn't completely focused on getting outs. There are exceptions to this. One I can think of right away is Black Jack McDowell. He would pitch to circumstances of the game. He might give up 4 when the Sox had 5, but he'd rarely give up that tying run. Garland is no McDowell, I know. I'm not trying to say that he is. I'm just saying that some pitchers have the capabilities to "situationally pitch".
  9. There is definiely reason for concern here. They say that the legs are where a hitter generates his power, and they also are the foundation for the swing. This could turn out to be a poor year for Frank. All we can do is hope that's not the case.
  10. QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 06:43 AM) Ya know I don't really know which way I swing (No pun intended ) on this issue of gay marriage / health benefits / civil unions, but who the hell is the ACLU to assume what the people meant in their vote? Maybe, the ACLU knows because the voters did not vote to "deprive same-sex couples of benefits".
  11. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 06:50 AM) YASNY, how safe would you feel with a bunch of guys in pickups started patrolling your backyard looking for something illegal? Should they be allowed to detain US citizens? Should they be trained at all? There are better ways of handling this. Live on the border for a while and I'll tell you why we jump to the conclusion. We can spot these guys a mile away. What a surprise the groups are all white. Not a single black guy, not a single Mexican-American, not a single Asian, Not a single American-Indian, not a single Israeli. Maybe there is some justification for the point that this racially motivated, which is why I indirectly asked the question. As for the rest of your post, I never addressed any of those points in my post, as I did not disagree with you.
  12. I believe it is either a MLB or a CBA rule that free agent signees cannot be traded until June 30.
  13. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 04:28 AM) Wouldn't Widger still have to clear waivers to be sent to Charlotte? I really don't think so as he's not on the 40 man roster. He might have this option, though:
  14. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 04:06 AM) Chris Widger is a non-roster invitee and he has no minor league options left. He would have to clear waivers and sign a minor league contract with the Sox to be sent down to Charlotte. Did you just delete a post?
  15. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 04:06 AM) Chris Widger is a non-roster invitee and he has no minor league options left. He would have to clear waivers and sign a minor league contract with the Sox to be sent down to Charlotte. He has already signed a minor league contract.
  16. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 04:10 AM) That is correct but so be it. Ozuna is outplaying him and deserves the spot. Hopefully, Valdez will go unclaimed, we will be able to sign him to a minor league deal, and send him to Charlotte. If not, oh well... Agreed.
  17. To all Michigan State fans: Congrats on a well earned victory and good luck in St. Louis.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) I wonder if future generations will look at starvation or lethal injections like we look at cruxifixtion I was contemplating the "future generations" outlook a little while ago. My thought was more along the lines of the theory of evolution vs blood letting or the flat earth.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) This is one of those stories where you think the government is wasting tax dollars until you realize the enormity of the situation. The honeybee is being wiped out by a tiny mite. Linker Here Wow. This can turn into some SERIOUS s***.
  20. Somebody is trying to bring attention to a problem, to get the focus of the nation on it. I don't know how someone can automatically jump to the conclusion that this is racially motivated.
  21. QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 02:50 AM) Just curious to what Chris Widger's status is with the Sox this season when he doesn't make the team? I am assuming that he is out of minor league options. My personal preference is to have this guy in Charlotte ready to go if someone goes down on the southside. Can someone please clear this up for me? Don't hold me to this, but here is what I think the situation is. Widger is signed to a minor league contract and is not on the 40 man roster, so the option thing is not an issue. He can be assigned to Charlotte, unless they have an agreement that Widger can shop himself around if he doesn't make the team.
  22. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) I like Valdez but he just isn't showing what it takes to play in the majors yet. Maybe someday. If I recall, Valdez is out of options so we'll more than likely lose him.
  23. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) Hawk also hit... .275 AVG .356 OBP .518 SLG .874 OPS 35 HR 109 RBI 69 BB 90 SO ... in 1968 for Boston. That was before steroids and a juiced-up ball. I think he has a right to rip on Billy Beane considering his stellar career. LOL. Now compare Beane's career to Hawk's.
  24. I concur with the consensus. That was the best preseason write up on the Sox that I have seen. You did something that no one else bothered to do, and that is you looked at the overall picture and not just the fact we lost Lee and Ordonez.
