White Sox v. A's Spring Training game
YASNY replied to AddisonStSox's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) fun fact: Hawk's career batting average was .239 A little Hawk defense here. There was a time when Hawk was feared hitter. You can't hold that .239 average in a fair comparison to today's standards. A bulk of Hawk's career was before the mound was lowered, and pitchers with ERA's under 3 happened nearly every year. The Sox usually had 2 starters that fit that discription every year. Iirc, Hawk played for Boston, Cleveland and the KC A's and was always a threat to rattle some fences. On his dislike of Beane and the Moneyball concept, I would speculate that Hawk is strictly an old school guy, regardless of his feelings toward Beane. However, Beane is known as an arrogant SOB that thinks his s*** don't stink. So, I'd venture to guess that Hawk thinks of Beane about the same way he considers Mariotti. -
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 12:28 AM) Doesn't Jones carry a pretty big contract, though? Meaning, if we traded for him, wouldn't we have had to trade both Lee and Konerko in order to obtain the other players such as Pierz and Hernandez and Iguchi? Oh, and on Baseball Tonight, I almost puked. Reynolds is such garbage. He said (to the effect) that the Dodgers might be the worst team in the NL West. And, I've never heard "Billy-ball" so much in one day (multiple times from Hawk, and twice from his mouth)... Yes, Jones does have a "healthy" contract. Several folks around here were vehement about not wanting to take on that contract during the M

They were all good, but this one: "5. "You want WHAT on the @#$%ing ceiling?" -- Michelangelo, 1566 " ... struck me as the funniest, for some reason.

I'm "happily employed" to the extent that I'm much more happy being employed than I would be otherwise. I won't go much farther than that, though.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) Interesting Op-Ed article Elian vs Terri That is what is pissing me off about this whole damn thing. Conservatives backing the GOP regardless of how the issue conflicts with their purported philosophies. Liberals are backing the Democrats in the same manner. Neither this case or the Gonzalez case makes sense, politically. That's to say nothing of the Branch Davidian case in Waco. Both parties do whatever they can get away with and the lemmings on each side just blindly follow the party line and swallow the party rhetoric, hook line and sinker.

Ozzie needs to get pissed. It's time to start playing winning baseball.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) Guys, since this is a buerhle thread I though I would add a little argument I had with a cub fan about buerhle. He said Mark wants to leave the sox because he is mad at the field dimensions. He claims he read that in the suntimes. I spend at least an hour of my day everyday that has something to do with the sox and never heard about this . Did I miss this? I know how much of a big deal our fan base was making when mark said he would like to be a cardinal one day. So this would be a lot bigger than that. Please someone assure me I was just dealing with an idiot. I haven't heard anything remotely close to this. You must be dealing with an idiot. Typical Cub fan.

Damndest game I've ever seen. Seems like UNC outplayed Wisky all game long, but every time you look up, Wisconsin was still in it. You have to give 'em credit, but they just didn't have enough horses.

The only team I'm not a bandwagon fan of is the White Sox. When it comes down to it, ther rest don't matter.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 27, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) NOT HOT bats in the ALC (ST-05): ChiSox: Crede, Dye, AJP, Harris, Gload Twins: Morneau, Ford, Rivas, Punto Indians: Martinez, Broussard, Belliard, Gonzo Tigers: Infante, Higginson, Ordonez (warm 269A) Royals: Buck, Harvey, DeJesus, Blanco, Stairs, Pickering NOT HOT arms in the ALC (ST-05): (starters, closers) ChiSox: Hermanson, Garcia, Contreras, Garland, Shingo, Marte, El-Duque Twins: Crain, Romero Indians: Betancourt, C Lee, Millwood Tigers: Maroth, Johnson, Knotts Royals: Appier, Greinke, Lima, Hernandez, Affeldt The Twins look primed to dominate April. Good ST #'s are meaningless but bad ones usually mean a slow start. It's possible ChiSox & Royals are victims of AZ but even so that only weakens the confidence of those arms. Looking at this list the Twins & Tigers are primed for fast starts, the Tribe & Sox off to slow starts, & the Royals lagging in last. Totally meaningless.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 26, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) Do days on the DL count as days on ML roster? I think they do, but I dont' know for sure. If they do, they shouldn't. At least as far as ROY eligibility.

Cheaters. Gaylord Perry is in. Nuff said there. But there is a degree issue here. Does Perry's occasional spitter equate to Bonds and Mac having that strength and the threat imposed by that strength on every pitch? This is a gray area.

Threat delays Pacers-Pistons at the Palace

QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Mar 26, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) I agree with Greasy and the Pistons getting a break. As for the fans... After living here for awhile now, I can say that the city as whole and a chunk of its fans (regardless of the team) are trash... but there are a ton of good fans up here too. ...let's just remember how much we didn't like a couple of idiots making a stereotype out of White Sox fans... True. But you are talking about Detroit! -
I was not advocating the death penalty. I didn't even use the words in my post. Nor was I advocating giving Terri a lethal injection. I just threw some thoughts out there for the sake of contemplation. Stop putting words in my mouth, please.

3 Big Ten Teams in Elite Eight Babyyyyy
YASNY replied to WilliamTell's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Three teams from one conference. Pretty good. That's almost as impressive as having two teams from the same state make it. Just saying. -
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) Well I have some respect for Herges...Tomko; not so much Once an ass, always an ass. So to speak.

Sorry, but there are some things that are not appropriate on Soxtalk, regardless of the label you put on a forum. As for you detesting all forms of censorship ... there is that one classic example of an always inappropriate expression of free speech ... yelling FIRE! in a crowded theatre when there is no fire. Edited to add: I meant to qoute Jugernaut's last post.

One of the best during those years? Ok, I'll give you that. He was "damn good", which is another way of saying he was one of the best. But I'm saying he was one of the best prior to '99. Who knows what BB would have accomplished without steroids at 35+ years of age. Maybe nothing. At 36 he may have been a washed up old ballplayer. His father was, fwiw. Whatever Barry has achieved since opening day 1999 is tainted and very questionable. Prior to 1999, he was "damn good" ... but that does not mean HOF material. Again. you are looking for "evidence" in a situation to where none can possibly exist. The best eveidence is his record prior to '99 and compare that to what has happened to other players at 35+ years of age. I still maintain the Bonds would be a questionable HOF'er, at best.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) Does anyone honestly think Willie has a chance at the starting job? I'm not so sure he will even win a roster spot with the way Ozuna is playing. Willie's in deep s***, imho.

If Terri was a dog, they'd give her an injection. If you starved a dog to death, you'd be arrected and prosecuted for cruelty to animals. They shoot horses, don't they? Humane. What the hell is humane? What is our criteria for being humane? Is Dr. Korvokian a criminal or an angel of mercy? I don't pretend to know the answers as to what is right and what is wrong in a situation like this. This is the definition of a "grey area". There is no pretense of black and white in this case. I also don't know what else to say. I have prayed, that if it's God's will, that she has a full recovery so that she can speak for herself. So that Terri can tell us what it was like to lay there and know, if she knew, that her life was the focus of the nation. So she could tell if Michael had her best interests at heart, or his own. I don't know and I cannot understand anyone who proclaims to know.
