Off days after the openers also allows MLB to turn the medias focus to more openers. If the Red Sox and Yankees play game 2, when the Sox and Tribe play their opener, guess what will be the lead story on SportsCenter that night.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) How many times would KW allowed Harris to fail before you would be happy for him to make a change? What makes you think I'm unhappy about this? I simply came to a conclusion based on a fact. No opinion expressed whatsoever in that post.

Great news here.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 06:03 PM) Coincidence? Willie Harris injures another player's knee. Former White Sox Aaron Miles. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap?gid=250304127 Pods had another 2-hit game, including a lead-off triple. Coincidence to what? Magglio? If so, then yes, it's purely coincidence. Not sure what you are getting at here.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) So Congress does not grant MLB's anti-trust exemption? Congress does not have the power to legislate laws? This is news to me. If MLBPA screws with Congress, Congress will just create a new law to screw MLBPA. Even with out a subpeona, MLBPA is under Congress's power, not the other way around. SB I said nothing of the kind. Read carefully this time. Frank was invited to testify. That is not an order. He can decline to do so. If the MLBPA whispers in Frank's ear not to do so, he probably won't testify. Now then, if they want Thomas to testify, and they subpeona him, then yes they have the power to make him. Regardless of the wishes of the MLBPA.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) Biggio was drafted as a catcher as well. Just an interesting fact. Biggio not only was drafted as a catcher, but came up as catcher. I believe he was even an all-star as a carcher, but I could be wrong about that. It seems to me I recall being impress that the guy could make the AS team as a catcher, then as a 2B. Biggio's a pretty phenomenal player, when you think about what he's done over the years.

Regardless of why the organization has soured on Harris, the fact remains that they obviously have. The signing of Iguchi tells that tale.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) I think you guys are getting this kind of wrong. Congress >>>>>> MLBPA Congress is the one that gives Baseball its anti-trust exemption. Congress can destroy the MLBPA with the snap of its fingers. If Congress asks some one to testify, the best policy if you are not worrying about 5th amendment self incrimination, is to testify. You do not want to start pissing in the wind with Congress. If I was Frank's agent, I would tell him to testify to Congress. By failing to testify, they will first conclude he is guilty, second will just subpeona whoever they want anyways. If you start off on the wrong foot, they will be much bigger jerks towards him. SB Actually, unless they subpeona Frank, they, Congress not >>>>>> MLBPA.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) Come on the only thing Willie has is a good glove.. Speed is useless unless he can figure out how to use it. Cabrera, What is with you people.. Are you that Blinded by the truth.. I know we all lost out on a great SS, but let it go people, when he helps the Angels win the West this year, and puts up the type of numbers I know he will...Don't worry I will be the first to Show KW the door for not signing a great player. The reason people throw Cabrera up in your face so often is that you acted like Cabrera was THE answer. He isn't. He's slightly above average at best. He certainly is not worth the money that the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim paid him ... and I'm damn glad the US Cellular White Sox of Chicago did not waste that much money on him.

While it would be great, in my opinion, for Thomas to show up on his own accord and tell what he knows and how he feels about steroids, you have to remember how strong the player's union is. One word from the union may put a kabash on Frank testifying. Now, if Frank told them behind the scenes to subpeona him, it might be a different story.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) Well doesn't that also concern you in that college professors are supposed to be very intelligent? I concerns me because the student body is buying into that crap for that very reason.

I'm happy you came through such a terrible experience unhurt. I believe you know what to do to get through the aftermath. God Bless.

For the record, this is inaccurate. I distinctly remember KW saying something to the effect that Carlos Lee was basically called in the carpet, and now he understands what we expect of him. This was shortly after that Burke-Hunter game.
-
Ah! A Smokey Burgess reference. Gotta love it.
-
Nobody has accused Frank Thomas of anything, so he doesn't need to "prove those bastards wrong." Throughout this whole steroid issue, from the very beginning, even before it became a big "story", Thomas has been outspoken in his disdain for the guys that used them and was vocal in how much of a disadvantage he was facing when trying to compete with the users. My guess is the congress wants Frank Thomas to hear the story from that perspective.

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) If he had nothing to hide he should have proceeded... That's what got him into trouble in the first place.

That's all well and good. But I'm taking a "Let's wait and see" attitude.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) Like everything else about modern life, folks in Kentucky usually get it a couple decades after the rest of us. Y'all are going to be amazed when you stop dialing and use a push button phone. :finger Push button phone? WTF is that!?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) Does every industry have a bias? Could we call some industries liberal or conservative? Obviously Hollywood tends to be liberal, which ones are conservative? Political Talk Radio?

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) come on man, why'd ya have to show me up like that...not cool! lmao, next time i'll try reading the whole story... Oh man. That wasn't my intent. I was just being my usual smartass self.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) Thats funny, since If I remeber correctly Manuel when he first got here was talking about Small ball and he got "boppers". On the quote of JR likeing KW.. of course you do, he is your puppet, and comes cheap.. A typical JR type guy. You are correct about that. Manuel did talk about an NL type game. One time around the AL, though, and that was the end of that.

Regarding Fisk. My main bone of contention is that they wouldn't let him visit the clubhouse during the playoffs. Inexcusable, imho. As for the release, Carlton's pride was hurt because he was released. He probably would have been pissed no matter how that occured. I also get the impression that Carlton is one stubborn SOB, so I don't see any fence mending in the near future though I suspect JR would be all for it. Regarding prospects. I think KW has established his M.O. is to draft, develope and trade prospects for veterans to fill needs. Prospects are always questionable. Some work out, possibly like Reed. Others don't, Hummel, Ring, etc. I think you can expect more of the same. Personally, if you can trade a prospect for a need to get over the hump, do it. Regarding payroll. I'm glad they are saving some to fill holes that appear during the season. Whether it be due to injury or ineffectiveness, those holes always arise. Sometimes the moves you don't make are the ones that pay off for you. For example, based on Crede's production the past two years, another person may have replaced him. Yet, if Crede has solved his problems this offseason, it may pay off that KW didn't make that move.
