  1. Not just them. It's the whole structure of the team. Too many sluggers and not enough baseball players. The way I see it, we can keep one of those two guys. Who goes depends on who we can for them and who we can get to replace them. But we need need balance in the line up and more "grinders" in the line up. PK has his strengths and weaknesses as does Carlos. I'm not advocating one over the other, but if we keep Thomas, one of them has to go if we can get decent value for them. But, hey, that's my opinion. And you know what they say about opinions ....
  2. Hmmmm. I remember it differently. I'm not disagreeing with you, just stating that I thought it was Kelly.

    Jon Garland

Randy Johnson. Curt Schilling. Carl Pavano. Pedro Martinez. Nolan Ryan. Kerry Wood. Even Sandy Koufax. Look at their numbers after 4 years in the bigs. We need to keep Jon Garland.
  4. I have 4 answers for you .... 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004
  5. Sandy has been an asset while with the Sox, but I'm afraid his time is done.
  6. You have some good points. But how long will it be till Vizquel has a Robbie Alomar type drop off in his production? It just may happen next year. Did the Mets anticipate that when they traded for Robbie?
  7. Kenny made a comment back in spring training along the lines of "someone that thinks they are on this team better take a look in the mirror or they won't be" (That is NOT a direct quote) .... the general consensus was that he was talking about Kelly. That was speculated about in the media. I think that will explain why people have this idea of discord between Kelly and Kenny.
  8. That is exactly the type of SS we need to acquire. Not a 38 year old relic to "build" around.
  9. Ok ... reference the remarks spawned by my contribution to this "lovefest" for cwsox. Anybody that has any intuitiveness at all would know that cwsox and I did not agree from a political standpoint. And honestly, I didn't care for style of debate or point proving. But that's just me. I certainly didn't consider it a character flaw. But I generally chose to just ignore it, as long as it wasn't something I couldn't let pass. Sometimes, you just gotta call bulls***, bulls***. However, he did contribute quite a bit to this site as a poster. I never questioned the decision to revoke his admin title. I only expressed the opinion that Soxtalk would be less than it was. A knowledgeable and articulate Sox fan is no longer contributing his input to this board and it will be missed. At least, his input will be missed by me.

    Jon Garland

If you put Jon Garland on the block, there would be 29 teams calling KW about him.
  11. Let's see here. He was captured so he could no longer try and kill Americans. So, he says. "I'll try and stir up as much s*** as possible. Abuse charges should be good."
  12. I received one of those "out of the blue" PM's from cwsox as well. cwsox had a way of stopping temper flare ups before they really got started, and did so while emphasizing the strengths and virtues of the two potential combatants. That is a skill and talent that I fear will be sorely missed around here. I don't know, nor do I want to know, exactly why cwsox's admin powers were revoked. But, I do know this much. Without cwsox's intelligent, insightful and always well meaning leadership, Soxtalk will be less than what it was. I've said my piece.
  13. Especially beach volley ball. But there is nothing wrong with watching these ladies run around the soccer field in those little shorts, either.
  14. The way I understand it, they ran Colangelo out of Dodge City BECAUSE he drafted Drew against their wishes. So the fact that they are not going to sign him was totally predictable based on that. I think this is a case where the D'Backs people with the greenbacks decided to cut their losses on the Drew selection. They'll get a comp pic between rounds one and two next year.
  15. Man, Juan Pierre is a real talent. Good lead off men are EXTREMELY hard to come by. There is no way he goes that cheaply.
  16. That would be great, but would they really let him go?
  17. Blue? Hell ... they should be gold.

    Stewart

That list of AAAA is not a bad assessment. Today. However, if that is what you think all these guys will top out as, then I have to disagree with you. Back in May, I'm sure many would have had Aaron Rowand on that list. I know that if I had a dollar for every time I read that he'd never be any better than a 4th outfielder in the majors, then I could take my private jet to Sox games.
  19. The Sox should approach Rowand this off season about a long term deal before he has a full breakout year next year. Aaron's confident now and KNOWS he can play this game and play it well.
  20. He was the team's union player rep. It seems to happen to all of 'em on the Sox.
  21. Grilli ... a mediocre AAA pitcher. I'm pumped!
  22. It seems like "degenerative" is a hot word around this site when it comes to describing injuries. I have not seen that word used in any article from a media source when talking about Magglio's injury. BTW, I wonder if that degenerative hip is still effecting Konerko's swing like it did last year.

    Borchard

It's really time for people to stop b****ing about Borchard and just let him play. Give the Sox a braintrust real chance to evaluate him. He's struggled and is now having some bad luck, but if the guy is still working let's give him a chance (as fans) and see what he can do.
  24. That ONLY affected Garland and Buehrle. Garcia had his normal period of rest.
  25. I'm with you on this. I've been pulling for the Padres all year.
