Ok redandwhite .... it's time to stop dreaming. That deal ain't happening.
-
Neither are pitchers with multiyear multimillion dollar contracts. It would be worth his investment to have an MRI machine installed at the Cell and also have someone there that actually knows how to read the results.
-
Bingo! I hate to hear about guys being rushed up to Chicago. Let them learn how to play the game the right way in the minors. We need to slow down the Chi-town express out of the minors.

I went with Konerko. He's been consistantly good all year, in general. Rowand came on like gang busters after he worked his way back into the lineup, but he did play poorly to get dropped from the line up at one point. As did Uribe. Frank Thomas's value to this team should never be underestimated again. His OBP and the threat he presented while in the batters box went so far toward affecting the positive play of so many of the other hitters. Hell, with Thomas in the on deck circle or even "in the hole" waiting to go to the on deck circle, he was an influence on every pitch thrown in any inning in which he had a reasonable probabilty of making a plate appearance.

Billy Koch. To me, that's a lock. He cost us some big games early that could have set the momentum for a nice long run. The blown saves in Oakland allow the poor west coast bug to continue, even though the team played well enough to bury it. Now that is still something that remains to be dealt with as opposed to having buried it this year.

Mike Jackson in 2004 = Rick White in 2003. Good riddance.

A man just can't find anywhere to "get away" for awhile, anymore. They'll track you down and find you like a bear looking for honey. rolleyeyes.gif Joking there trillian. Welcome to the board!

Ok. Borchard hit a 500+ foot bomb. Great. It was still just a 2 run homer. That in itself is no big deal. I'm just glad to hear he's been hitting the ball hard with more regularity.

Kip Wells. Interesting that he's been brought up as someone who's done well and Garland has somehow failed to achieve. Wells 2004 stats = 5W 7L 4.50era 1.52whip .. career stats = 47 - 51 4.19 1.45 Garland 2004 = 9 - 10 4.91 1.36 .. career = 43 - 50 4.67 1.44 There is some variations in the numbers but they are incredibly similar. I think a big key as to what to expect for the future would be this year's WHIP stats. Since Wells is 27 and Garland is 24, I'd much rather have Garland. Garland's age HAS to be taken into consideration. Just look at the numbers of some of the very solid veteran pitchers at age 24 and then look at Garland's. He's just way too young to send packing just because his not a quality #2 starter .... yet.

Hey ... I just had a thought. Based on these rules, we can still call a guy like ... just as an example ... Cliff Politte as f***ing bum. Yet, we can't do the same thing to Neal Cotts because he's a registered poster here. Now how are we going to deal with this dilemma?

It's really a shame that things had gotten to the point to where this became necessary. The people operating this board have tried to allow freedoms here that are not currently allowed on other boards. So what happens? You get a few people that don't understand the basic principle of civil behavior and they abuse the open policy of this board, thereby causing restrictions that impede the freedoms for those that do know how to handle them. It's sad. I'm gonna miss the "Dips***" smiley. Of course I'm still going under the assumption that we can call Sammy Sosa any name in the book. Correct me if wrong.

You people that don't appreciate what Garland can be are ..... ah f*** it. It ain't worth it.
-
I agree with everything you say here with this exception .... Most people didn't give Konerko the benefit of the doubt. They wanted give him away last off season.

Not "as opposed to Bush". I said neither was worth the powder to blow them to hell. Bush and Clinton dodged Nam. Kerry went and came back and disrespected all his brothers in arms by sniffing Hanoi Jane's tail.

I see where you are coming from, but you have to have some power/RBI type guys and generally you'll have them at 1B, LF and RF. Strengthen you defense up the middle and get your speed/contact/OBP type guys there. If Gload was a gold glove SS or 3B I'd say hell yes.
-
Wow. I thought I'd get slammed for my opinion, not agreed with.

Here's the difference between Gload and Davis. To start with, you have to look at what position they are playing. Davis, as a catcher, can be more of an asset to a team with a .260 BA than Gload can with a .285 BA. Gload plays 1B and (arguably) the corner OF positions. Those are where you are supposed to get you power numbers from. If you aren't getting your RBI's from those positions, you better have a Grace, Gwynn or Ichiro type player out there. Not a .285 18 HR guy. Don't get me wrong. I like Gload. He could even hold down 1B for a month or so if your starter got hurt. But to count on him for an entire season as a starter just sends a message to your team and fan base that the White Flag is being raised in April.

I would not consider Olivo to have Hall of Fame potential.

I don't know, guys. Call it hunch, but I think Crede is jsu having one of the "bad years" like Konerko had last year. I can't argue the point, nor do I have anything to back it up. At least with PK, he had shown over the course of a few seasons that he could do the job. Crede has only shown flashes. I'd like to give him one more shot at it before we give up on him.

Why doesn't Willie start every game at 2b or CF?
YASNY replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
One thing I'd like to mention about Aaron Rowand. He wasn't given his shot. He earned it, with his play as a part timer and by having good plate appearences. -
Miguel Olivo, as good as he is, should never ever be referred to as "the next Fisk".
-
I'd rather go with Escobar in RF next year than Gload. If Gload is our "best option" we better be getting some more options.
-
Saying you'd like J. D. Drew on your team is one thing. Saying you'd pay him Magglio money is another. Drew is very solid, but he's not worth a multiyear deal at 8 digits per year, that's for sure.
-
We got 30 wins out of Loaiza in a season and a half. I think we lucked out immensely. Let's get a quality starter and forget about this retread.
-
You cannot teach Ross Gload to be a quality starting position player on a quality major league team. He is a solid bench player and I feel lucky he turned out to be that much. Let's stop all thoughts about Gload being in our everyday starting line up, regardless of position.
