    Flip-Flopping?

You'd think an effective 50% tax rate would be enough.
  2. I would always call a teacher out if I thought they were spewing crap. So many people accepted what they said as gospel. Not me. If they talk it, they better be able to able to back it up.
  3. Damn. I would have like to have seen that.

    Best TV Drama

    1. Law and Order 2. West Wing 3. NYPD Blue But, it is hard to rate them. They are all excellent.
  5. I had a great US History teacher in high school. One of the things she did was split the class up into groups of 4 and had each group represent a "fictional" country. Each country had it's strengths, weakness, alliances, geography, etc. What it ecevtually turned out to be was a recreated representation of the world at the time just prior to WWI and we had to try and prevent the war from breaking out. Needless to say, we were unsuccessful, but I always have suspected that she sabotaged the exercize because we were so very close to succeeding. I also had a good one in college. But one day he tried to tell the class that (this was back in the 80's) England would soon lose Gibraltar, and the straits, to Spain. I questioned him on it as to why he thought that would happen. He said something to the effect that England no longer had the ability nor the resolve to defend Gibraltar if Spain chose to take it over. I pointed out two things to him. First, Gibraltar is one of the world's most important "gates" as it's where the Mediterranian meets the Atlantic and is therefore a very valuable holding. So, I got him to admit that England might have the resolve, based on that. Then I pointed out the England had just recently defended a group of meaningless islands (The Faulklands) 5000 miles from their shore and that showed me they had the ability to defend the very much closer and more important Straits of Gilbratar. Hook, line, sinker. He was not a happy camper.

    Joe Nathan

The Twins are everything we want the Sox to be. That's why so many hate them so much. Personally, I respect them and hope they win the whole enchilada if we don't have our miracle run in September.
  9. Even with Frank and Magglio available early, though the team had a decent OBP, we did have trouble getting guys into scoring position. Unproductive outs caused by K's, pop ups, hitting in front of the runner, lazy fly balls and of course, that Sox staple, the GIDP. We couldn't seem to execute a sacrific bunt (which I still disagree with as a philosophy) or a hit and run with any degree of consistancy at all. When we did try a sac bunt, it usually failed leading us once again to the unproductive out syndrome mentioned above. We need to start stocking up on players that seem to have at least a sliver of baseball instinct. That's the problem with this team.
  10. With Me and Aboz representing Kentucky, I think that makes this a slam dunk. UK Style!
  11. I saw it about 4 times in one addition of SportsCenter.
  12. The above from Mike Lupica. I wonder where the Sox would be if someone had got into Torii Hunter's face.

    Garland

Of course, I agree with you. We need Garland to take that next step. But, not enough people seem to realize the value of a 24 yr old starter that is effectively producing numbers comparable to the average 3rd starter for contending AL teams. We haven't had a decent number 5 starter in two years and why people want to dump Garland is beyond all logic in my opinion.
  14. Whatever. I'm not gonna play games. You do whatever. Where's that "dips***" smilie when you need it?
  15. It's kind of strange that ... if you watch very carefully, you can see a computer monitor sitting on a filing cabinet just to the left of the hole caused by the "757". A plastic encased computer monitor. It didn't MELT. Yet this was a 757 loaded with jet fuel. You know ... the same jet fuel that melted the steel girders in the twin towers! Oh ... one other point. Try and twist or turn a 757 anyway you want to and try and make it fit in the hole left in the side of the Pentagon. It doesn't even come close to fitting. The wings would have eithe been sheered off and left on the outside of the building, or taken out part of the building as they entered. Or, possibly been sheered off by the ground itself. But there were no wings, tail, fuselage or anything left of the plane. There were no places you could say the wings penetrated here. There was no skid marks or damage on the lawn of the Pentagon. Damn right there's a conspiracy.
  16. Do you care to enlighten me as to who you are, Mr. Mystery person? IM me or whatever.
  17. I don't think Robin was overrated by Sox fans. We knew what we had and that was a very solid baseball all around baseball player (ok, no speed). He was a gold glove caliber thirdbaseman that had a decent bat and knack for hitting in the clutch. He tied down that 3B position for years when good 3B's are hard to comeby. No one ever accused Ventura of being a HOF'er, but he should have gotten an all-star appearance or two during his years with the Sox.
  18. I say the Bears do not make the playoffs and here's why. They will lose too many games early as they try and learn the new system installed by Smith. It's going to take time to get it down, especially on the offense side of the ball. Grossman and his receivers have to get to the point that they can just react and not have to think about what they are supposed to be doing and where they are supposed to be. Also, you take this into consideration too. The personel on the Bears. It will take time for Angelo and Smith to replace some of the Jauron type players with players that fit the system Smith is trying to implement. For example, the wide receivers. The Bears used to want the tall strong type receivers like Marcus Robinson and Marty Booker and now the want the speedsters. So, what you have is this. Players who don't fit the system trying to learn and fit into the system. The Bears needed to make a change, no doubt about it. But this new way of thinking and approaching the game is going to take some time. They can't turn over the roster to fit the scheme in one off season. I'm no football expect, but there's my two cents worth.
  19. I'm no soccer fan, by any means. But I think in at least one way, soccer can be compared to baseball. If you don't understand the nuances of the game, it seems dull and boring. But to a seasoned fan, there is so much to see that your average Joe wouldn't pick up on or begin to understand. In Athens, a lot of the fans that watched baseball played had no clue as to what was happening and left games early. Yet, those same fans are probably tabid soccer fans. And do not give me any "How dare you compare soccer to baseball" crap. I'm looking at only from the context of what a knowledgable fan from each sport can see and appreciate vs. the casual or new fan.
  20. Sometimes TJ surgery makes the arm better than it was before the injury ever happened. Maybe we'll get lucky here. What am I saying? This is a Sox farmhand, after all. :headshake
  21. I think this is an off season where no one has any idea what the Sox are planning other than building around pitching and grinders. As for what individuals they are targeting, and what they are willing to give up to get those individuals.... it's a crapshoot.

    Garland

Garland has performed like a 3rd starter. Check around the league ... even focus on the contenders. His numbers have been right there around average for a 3rd starter.
  23. I disagree with you. I don't think KW will move him unless someone just knocks his socks off with an offer.
  24. A message board stalker ... eh, I've lived through worse things.
  25. I don't have clue who that is or what that meant.
