Maggs to the Yanks
I don't see Soriano as a great defensive centerfielder. In fact, he'd prrobably be a liability. CF is not a position just anyone can play. See Jose Valentin as an example of an infielder trying to play in CF.

Pessimism central
I really think patience is needed here folks. The team, as it stands right now, is not the one that will take the field opening day. I think the misguided hope that Colon would resign kept the Sox from pulling the trigger on other possible moves, but there will be some moves and acquisitions forthcoming, I'm sure.

insuring players
Insurance was paying a large percentage of Belle's deal. That is an example of the one of those that the insurance company got burned on.

I-Rod Update/Gammons on SC tonight....
If the Yankees can't sign Pettitte, I think they'd consider Maddux the perfect short term replacement. Yes, I can see this happening.

Sully & Stairs To the Royals...
I can't understand why we couldn't afford to keep Sully, yet the KC Royals could affoed to sign him. Does KW has something else in mind? Was it just a matter of he thinks his available dollars could be spent elsewhere more effectively. We don't have the whole story here, folks. Let's wait and see what happens before we all blow our stacks.

Fuck Fuck Fuck
Looking at this thing with the emotions of a fan, but trying to use logic (what a concept, eh?), I feel like the Sox can be qualified as being both competitive and mediocre. I refer to cwsox's posts as my basis for saying they are competitive. They have a legitimate chance of making the playoffs every season. Again referring to cwsox's post, he lists several teams that have extended runs of poor records. The Sox are certainly not in that group. Then you have the teams that have had, generally, success over the years. Seattle, Oakland, Yanks, Boston, Atlanta, Giants, D-Backs and the Fish ( the last two have won WS, so that, to me, qualifies them). The Sox are not in this group either. We are basically in the middle of the pack, outside the context of the AL Central and looking at MLB overall. During the JM regime, we just a few games over .500 and that defines mediocrity.

Cubs rumor
Even if the Angels have Vladdy in their sights, this does not make any sense whatsoever. Cub fans are so lame. :fthecubs

Question on Colon
Bigger fools. I've seen reports that it was 52 million.

So much for Eddie
But that was with $14,999,950 deferred.

Sheffield-Yanks deal falling apart?

Some Minor Signings
The Twins do have more time to sign him, but they do not have exclusive negotiating rights if he turns arbitration down.

Possible grievance against Yanks
I believe I read that Quantrill was rated higher than Flash, which means we'd now get a second rounder instead of a third round choice.

Does anybody no
"nos" should have been spelled "nose".

Dodgers want Huff
That is EXACTLY why I do not want Roger Cedeno.

Winter League updates
It doesn't matter. WinterBall stats mean nothing.

call me crazy but d-rays will win
They'll just sign him when he becomes a free agent. So, you see, he still is a future Yankees star. George figures if he has to pay part of the Expos salaries, he might as well use them as a developmental team.

Why can't we expand payroll?
Those are called "venting" posts. We allow each poster 3 per week.
-
Convince me
I agree with you 100%. Given the restraints of the Sox payroll, Colon is not worth anywhere near $12 million.

Fuck Fuck Fuck
Negativity is just the way things are done around here.

Does anybody no
You won't make fun of him "hear"?

Why can't we expand payroll?
There has not been one word uttered from the Sox front office about cutting payroll. At least, not that I've seen.

Konerko / Perez trade??
If we are talking about Perez for Konerko, straight up, then there is no way in hell we add Magglio for Lo Duca and Hanrahan, or whatever that young pitcher's name is. That's insane.

Sox offer Guardado contract...
Of course, if Eddie G signs with us that will not be the last move in the bullpen. I don't see any way we keep Koch.
