Gammons on Tuesday's AM Sportcenter
Perez should really fit in with Sox.

Cubs Trade For D. Lee
Depending on who the player to be named later is, the Cubs pulled off a helluva deal. You can figure Lee for close to 40 homers at the friendly urinal. Maybe more once Sosa shows him how to cork a bat.

Garland signs a 1-year deal
For those of you that have run of patience waiting for Garland to emerge, read this paragraph from a Boston newspaper regarding Curt Schilling: A guy like Mark Prior who can step onto a major league mound and be an ace from the very beginning is rare. It takes time to learn how to be a major league pitcher. Even for someone who is a very intelligent person, like Schilling. The article said he bacame a top pitcher in '92. His record that year was 14-11. Jon Garland is, at least, in that neighborhood. Schilling did not have a 20 win season until 2001.

More Trade Possibilities
That is affirmative. Tino is owed $7.5M for 2004 and at least a $1M option buyout for the 2005 season. St. Louis is paying $7M of the $8.5M he is gauranteed.

Baseball loses an all-time great.
Former Milwaukee Braves great Warren Spahn died Monday at age 82. "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain." Rest in peace.

Colon News
Some Yankee news from a Star-Ledger column out of New Jersey. Includes an interesting comment about Colon.

Coach Bill
As long as it's not George Karl. He used to be a good coach, but for some reason he just can't seem to cut it anymore. He even made Team USA look pathetic.

The Pet Peeve thread
Playing the devil's advocate is exactly what I was doing. I was just having a little fun with you. Besides, I wanted to use that "creature is to creator as sculpture is to sculptor" line.

What did you do when the site went dark
That was you?

Sniper sentenced to death
The dude should be put to death, that's for sure. I wish they build a gallows at that mall by the Washington momument and string his ass up. And televise it!!! Send a message to anyone else out there that decides they'd like to terrorize and murder Americans. Screw this politically correct bulls***.

Mets Owner Nixed Koch Trade
I'd bet the deal breaker was that Cedeno was still a Met.

I Say.....
Yes, that banner is very cool. It looks great and the "Change is good" theme seems to reflect the feelings of most of us here on Soxtalk. Great job, Ian.

Sox sign Dransfeld
The signing of Dransfeldt could signal the end of the Tony Graffinino era in Chicago.

Escobar
Pedro, Schilling, Lowe .... You can bet your ass Steinbrenner is blowing his stack. A year ago, if you remember, we were all b****ing because the Yankees had 7 or 8 quality starting pitchers. Now they are down to one, Mussina. Clemens retired. Wells is a big question mark health wise and a free agent. Pettitte is a free agent. Contreras hasn't lived up to the hype yet. Weaver just sucked. Hitchcock was traded. Leiber is aslo a health question mark. Am I forgetting anyone?

Garland signs a 1-year deal
I like it. I'm glad they didn't have to go to arbitration with him.

Had to Laugh at this..
He's so far out there, that there is no out there out there.

Flash is history
Flash is very risky at the age of 35 or so, and a history of arm problems. Good luck to the D-Rays if they offer him a two year deal. They're going to need it.

Sox interested in Tejada
Considering the A's just traded for two outfielders, do you really think they'd consider a Mulder for Ordonez deal? I don't think so, and I don't see the Sox taking on the Dye contract to get the deal done.

Graffy leaving?
If Tony G. can get a shot somewhere at being a regular, I'm sure he'd take that over being the Sox utility man again.

More Trade Possibilities
The last I heard, Nomar wanted to come in at just below Jeter type money. The Sox can't (won't) be able to get him to agree to an extension.

Rumor
This just strikes me as a bulls*** rumor. I can see the Reds doing this deal, but I cannot see the Sox taking on Griffey's contract because of the longterm obligation vs. the risk factor. If they would offer Maggs exactly what is remaining on Griffey's contract, I believe he'd take it. And for the same money, I'd much rather have Magglio. Let me say that I have not researched Griffey's contract, but I was just going by what has been said in this thread.

We are Back in Action
It's been a long lonely week with Soxtalk. It's good to be back among friends.

offical Sox-Schwarzenegger trivia questions
They have NTN around here. I dabble at it occasionally. My most memorable game was against a guy named, believe it or not, Cubfan. I saw him playing and just HAD to log in as Soxfan. We went head to head, just the two of us. He was very good, which I knew because I had been watching him. However, it must have been my lucky day because I beat him by a few hundred points. We were both in the 13000's. I was trailing till the last question, but nailed an obscure Alice Cooper question for 1000 to pass and beat him. He was not a happy camper.

Could be some ups and downs today
It was down all night, too.

The Pet Peeve thread
If you agree with me that redundancy is annoying, wouldn't it follow that "annoyingly redundant" is in the same vein as "very unique"? I couldn't resist. Sorry. Now, about your objection to the word "creature" to describe animals. Creationism is theory as is evolution. Therefore, until one or the other is definitively proven or disproven, "Creation Science" is as viable of a possiblity as evolution. Therefore, using "creature" to describe animals is a valid option. Creature is to creator as scuplture is to sculptor.
