Attendance Question
Taking the past managerial regime into consideration and the pervasive perception that the team played lackluster, uninspired baseball; the Sox have brought back a popular and lively ex-Sox player to manage the team and create a little excitment, or the perception of, around USCF. If, by chance, he can light a fire under some of these guys asses, perhaps there will be an increase in attendance.

PayRod.....
Again, you express your opinion as a hard fact. There are all kinds of tangibles that different people with different opinions take into consideration. That is why they have so many different voters. The MVP is determined by a MAJORITY, which eliminates the chance of one very closed minded person from determining who should and who shouldn't be MVP. I'd say this election by a majority is a helluva concept. It should even be considered for minor things .... like the presidential elections.

Flash is history
I agree. Neither would accept the arbitration offer, as they are both looking for multi-year contracts. If they did for some unknown reason accept the offer, especially Gordon, I'd just call the Yanks or D-Rays and see what I could get for him.

Hengten
Thanks Pastime. That was old news, but it still was news to me.

Realistically speaking, this could happen with any pitcher. Though, the odds seem to be greater with Colon. I haven't heard about any problems that Ponson has.

Ozzie 2004 AL Mgr?
We really should wait and see exactly what Ozzie can or cannot actually do before we start slamming him. If you are disappointed with his hiring, fine. But to say he has absolutely no potential, at this point, is a bit harsh.

Bonds wins his 6th MVP
It has been tarnished, however. Maris might still be the single season home run champ if it weren't for steroids. That's to say nothing of Sosa and Bonds assaults on the career home run list.

Michael Jackson in trouble again...
I wish he'd go back to his self-imposed seclusion and stay there.

JFK on history channel
I'll have to say this much. They are really doing a hatchet job on LBJ. Deservedly so, IMHO.

Trib's preseason top 25
With this obvious Big 10 bias on the part of the Tribune, do they honestly think we believe there is no bias toward the Cubs?

Hawks
The Hawks are embarrassing? Who woulda knew?

UM-OSU tradition
There are some very intense rivalries out there, but I don't think any stand up to Ohio State vs. Michigan.

Say What You Want Bout Mariotti...
I agree. At $14 million, he is overpriced. However, some of the comments made about him in here have had me shaking my head.

PayRod.....
I didn't say I agreed with any of the arguments for the other players. I just said that an argument can be made. It's all a matter of subjective opinion. You have expressed your opinion, though you present it as hard fact. Which it is not.

Dany Baez option declined
Sounds good to me.

Kelly Wunsch
All the more reason to take this with a grain of salt.

Sox may pursue Fred Garcia
I agree, but for obviously different reasons. There is no way you trade Cotts for Garcia. Not even straight up. Garcia is worth a gamble, not one that big.

Billy Beane aint close to being done.
I'm sure Beane was considering the long term potential of Keilty, as opposed to just signing a has been like Rhondell White. With Harden and Blanton backing up the big 3, he could afford to trade Lilly.

Most controversial MVPs
You can't define what the MVP "is". It varies from voter to voter, year to year, depending on the set of circumstances that occur in each case. To say that the MVP should be this or that is fine, but it's only your opinion. Everybody looks at it differently. That's why they have voters to determine this.

Steroids
The current steroid policy of MLB is a direct result of negations with the player's union in the last CBA. It does not go far enough, certainly. However, it is better than what was in place prior to the CBA. Which was nothing. As far as who is stupid enough to get caught five times, the first person that came to mind was a certain RF with the Cubs. But seriously, someone will be stupid enough to do that. You wait and see. Look at guys like Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Steve Howe, Dexter Manley, etc. It happens. People think they have they answers, that they are too smart to get caught, that they can get away with it, etc. again.

Kazou Matsui
If Matsui can be had for $5 million or less, the Sox screwed up big time by picking up the option on Valentin. Unless, of course, he gets traded to L.A. or whereever. I still can't see the Sox doing something like signing Matsui. They just don't operate that way. D'Angelo Jiminez has the baseball instincts of a box of rocks. I'm very glad he's no longer with the Sox.

Padres and A's deal
It was a very interesting day from the A's perspective. I don't think Beane is done yet. He has something in mind for that hole at catcher, I'd bet.
