73 for me ..... Hell, I hope I make it that far.

Jets Bills Broncos Colts Chiefs Dolphins Giants Steelers Lions Packers Panthers Bears Saints Falcons Titans Eagles I just realized how little I've paid attention to football so far. LOL ... This could be ugly, folks.

Let's see ... we were what, 8 games under .500 at one point this year? Let's say we picked up our pace to where we only fell 2 more under by the end of the year, that would leave us with a record of 76-86. Back in June, it would also be conceiveable to see the Twins at 86-76. So that's 10 games out... but, I predicted Sept 20 as E-day, so the would be just about right under those circumstances. I never said anything about being 20 out. Not an unreasonable guess at all. Fortunately, it hasn't played out that way.

The thing is ... Julie S. was right, It was a foul ball. Just as soon as that umpire pointed foul, it officially became a foul ball. Cub fans can't argue that.

I've been told that Molina broke his wrist on the play. That would explain him not holding on to the ball, I would think.

The fact that Magglio easily made it into 2nd base, and Frank had a better look at the play does nothing for you? It was a bad play by Frank, he was out by a mile. I'm not blaming the game on him, but if was one of your whipping boys out on 2nd, you'd have a different opinion. No, I wouldn't. The ball should've been caught, the runners saw that and had to stay close to tag up if they had any play after the catch. Maggs is only slightly faster than Frank, and may have 'cheated' a bit on his lead, he does that a lot, but who would you figure to throw out if you were the fielder? On that type of a play? Walker is running full out to the OF from his 2B position, as an IF your instinct would be to make the closest play (being 2B). For him to be able to miss the ball, pick it up, turn around towards the IF, and still be able to spot Thomas far away from 3B, and still have enough time to get a throw there to beat him by plenty means that Frank was way too close to the bag. He must have been practically standing on the bag, or got a terrible break on the ball running to 3B. Most infileders would be thinking to get the lead runner, inho.

This post brought a thought to mind. Frank had to stay close to the bag since second was so close to the ball. Maggs was able to cheat a little more away from first because of distance.

speaking of drunken fans running onto the field... did anyone happen to catch that moron ligue on entertainment tonite (or whatever that stupid show is called) .... they followed him to a sox game the other nite(rangers game) ... that idiot shouldnt be allowed to enter a ball park ever again after what he did....and there he was sitting in the upper deck with a beer in hand, while his kid sits in boot camp for the remainder of the year......go figure huh.... If he wants to jump on the field from the upper deck, I don't have a problem with it.

It's real simple. We are tied for 1st place on September 4th and we have very solid big 3 in the rotation. Yes, we CAN win it all. Now, if they just WILL.
-
#72 should be retired, imho.

Now tied for first....I don't know why I'm startin

Agreed wholeheartedly. Kimm can take a lot of blame for this loss, or for atleast sending Aaron Rowand in the 9th. Worst idea ever. The fact that Maggs GIDP with the bases loaded, Lee popping up with runners on 2nd and 3rd, and that Everett popped out with the bases loaded didn't help, but Kimm....that was not fun. And yes, f*** David Ortiz. That fat f*** should lose some weight. And I hate Kevin Millar. I think he is the closest looking to a redneck in the majors. I wonder if his working TV is on top of his non-working TV. Hey! Stop with the degrading remarks about people. That is totally uncalled for. -
The one thing I question is this. Why not have Rowand and Harris's roles reversed in that game. Rowand is as good, if not better, defensively in CF. Harris has the better speed and probaly would have scored on that play. If not, Rowand certainly has the better bat.
-
Here's what I am thinking went through Kimm's mind, and it had to occur by the time Rowand was half way between 2nd and 3rd, certainly no later than that. Ramirez is poor defensively, and right now has a piss poor attitude. He (Kimm) was betting that Manny would either mishandle the ball, make a weak throw, or an offline throw. Any one of those things happenings is not a bad bet. Then, Nomar also has to catch it, turn and make a good throw home. Then the catcher has to catch it and hold on to it. There were a lot off things that could have gone wrong for Boston on that play. Kimm forced the issue and Boston executed to perfection and made the play. That, my friends, is baseball.

This thread is depressing.

Hey Killa ... I think police and firefighters should receive the same respect as our military personel.
-
That's the least they could do. I'm proud that team has that policy.
-
I don't see anything wrong with the ESPN comment, either. However, as a Sox fan, I do take offense at Roman calling them losers.
-
Hey. Say what you want to, but we could have used a walkoff homer from one of our 0fer guys last night.
-
I wonder if Aaron Miles can bunt?
-
Thank you. I'll try to remember that.
-
In June, with the way they were playing, did that seem to be an unrealistic outlook?
-
This one seems like a draw to me. I don't know who stooped lower, Houston or Bowa. Both ex-Cubs, though. It figures.

How's the ticket situation for Sat and Sun vs Cleveland.... thinking I might drive up and catch at least one of those games.
-
That was an awesome catch. I thought Chimp was gonna cry.
