  1. Gammons would have gone ballistic if the Yanks had acquired Vlad. LMAO!!!!
  2. A huge victory tonight! Sweeping the Royals at KC sends a message that they don't want to receive. We'll soon have them right where the Twins are..... in our rear view mirror. Upward and onward!!!!
  3. Damn right they did. Kielty is gonna be a helluva ballplayer.
  4. I was referring to the incident where Fisk and Donn Pall were not allowed into the clubhouse during the playoffs. They were both part of the team that year. i remember something about that, maybe somebody could tell this better than i. if i remember and i am giving the opportunity to be wrong, but i think there was a vote and the players didn't want them there. with fisk was the way he was forced to retire and they couldn't allow pall in after they did that to fisk, I'd certainly be interested in having that story confirmed, if it is correct. That's the first I've heard about that. you know what, i remember that, but as i said, i may be wrong on this. the situation of forcing fisk to accept retirement was a distraction and was ugly. i know that the sox took a hit on the pr side, but it was a deed that needed to be done. Even that point is debatable, though at the time it occured I felt the same as you. However, I have since heard about Fisk expressing the fact the Lamont would not give him any playing time and therefore Fisk could not get things going. Could just be sour grapes on Carlton's part, but who knows.
  5. Danny Wright is the smart choice here. Cotts very well may be ready, but Danny's been here and this is a pennant race.
  6. I'll second that remark. The Twins aren't going away anytime soon.

  9. I've never had a problem with JR being "cheap", though at times of frustration I'm sure I have lashed out at him for not spending more. He does run this club with an eye toward fiscal responsibility, and rightly so. My only beef with JR is the way good quality ex-players have been disrespected as they were on there way out of town. And I'm sorry, but I'll always hold the Carlton Fisk fiasco against him. That was totally classless.
  10. I'm with you, LDF, on Rauch. He should be completely healed from that arm surgery by then. I takes a full year of pitching, in most cases, for a guy to regain his previous level after surgery.
  11. I think the Giants really paid a steep price for Ponson. Consider that they traded away Russ Ortiz for Damian Moss, then they trade Moss and two more quality arms for Ponson. Hmmmm, has Kenny Williams been spotted in San Francisco lately?

    The Lion King

You'd have to watch Bambi to see something like that.

    Can you imagine...?

I hope they throw the book at her, a couple of times :fyou Throw the book at her? What she did was cruel and vicious, but not criminal. The only thing the family can do is sue her for emotional distress or something like that, but it's likely that someone who would do such a mean thing doesn't have money, so she will probably get off the hook completely. If she involved the police in this, I'm sure there is something they can charge her with.

    Rick Fox

Not this one. LOL ... good one.
  15. Carrying forward on the thought that we may yet get that 5th starter before the day is done, this is from today's Greg Couch column in the Sun-Times:

That's 'cause he's He moved out of Canada when he was 2, so he's not really Canadian (thank god). There long enough to get his good looks and charm. Isn't that what all good looking, charming Canadians do? Leave?
  17. I watched the show until the guy that was monitoring the Sox-Royals game said Kansas City had hit 4 home runs, when in fact, it was the White Sox. I turned it to BBTN to see if the Royals had actually put the hurt on us. Fortunately, it was just a false alarm.

    Oh nice...

This is a sick world we live in.
  19. A very warm welcome indeed. The Sox let him know they were very happy to see him.
  20. If KW believed that this trade improved the club even slightly, then it was "a waste of time". We may need a 5th starter, yes, but who's to say that we wopn't get that 5th starter by the end of the day? HSC has made one very valid point that I have been waiting to see if it would ever be mentioned in any of these threads.... By getting a quality 5th starter, we do have insurance if someone goes down with an injury. I've seen several debates about whether or not we "need" one, but IMO we damn well might need one very desperately before it's all said and done.
  21. No, a 5th starter would not get a playoff start. Hopefully, we'll need at least 4 starters come playoff time.
  22. Crede is in his 1st full season in the majors. Relax. The dude will hit.
  23. This stuff about whether KW is a good GM or not is starting to get old. Some things he has done have totally sucked. On others he has been unlucky and on others he's done well. The point is, for now, KW is this team's GM and we have to count on him if we hope to make the playoffs. He has certainly tried, at every opportunity, to improve this ballclub. You have to give him that much credit.
