First US POWS
Steff, Roman is a 15 year old kid. He seems to be a good kid from the posts I've seen him make. He sometimes has had some misguided opinions, but he has shown a tendency to listen and learn from the older & supposedly wiser people in here. I've seen him change his tune several times after someone has logically pointed out to him why his opinion was flawed. Please, try that approach in the future as he just might benefit from your wisdom. And please, do not take this as a criticism of you, just a suggestion.

don't know about the cat (I don't remember that happening and I remember a lot of that seaon, it was so happy, I made a ton of money betting on Mets win and not Cubs in April) it may have happened but I don't remember - Santo tore that team apart when he ripped into Don Young - and they were arrogant all year while the Mets were hungry - always arrogant for a team that wins s*** The black cat incident actually happened at Shea Stadium. The cat ran across the front of the Cubs dugout and the fans went wild, cheering the cat. The Cubs then started their much overdue June swoon, in August. I love happy memories! LOL

Question about Stewart
Sure you can bring someone up from AA. It's done all the time. In fact, several years ago, the Sox brought Scott Radinsky from single A. As far as the rest of your post, I'm in total agreement.

1993: A Decade Later
Bo Jackson realy was a world class athlete. I seem to remember him leading off an All Star game and jacking one out. And the made a hell of a running catch, climbed the outfield wall at full speed, after he made the catch, just to turn around and make a quick throw.

Roberto Clemente was totally awesome.

To me, that is a very big key. And it is this fact that impresses me the most about Kenny Williams. He has set this up, and now it will work to his advantage. Even in the payroll dept. Example: Joe Crede was in AAA till the brought him up last year, except for an occasional cup of coffee promotion. If Crede had been brought up at the beginning of 2001 and developed while on the major league roster, he'd be 2 years closer to arbitration eligibilty than he currently is. That keeps payroll down, to where we might be able to pick up a player or two to help this team out.

No thank you, I don't want Sosa. When he came to the Sox, you could see a great baseball player developing. He was a 5 tool guy. But, he gave up his other tools just to become a slugger. It really is all about "me" with Sammy. Baylor tried to get him to put some emphasis on the other aspects of his game, and basically, Baylor's influence over the Cubs as a team ended right there. The front office did not back Baylor up. That is the type of ballplayer Sosa is... screw the team, I want to hit 65 homers.

2003 All-Star game
I think we should stuff the ballot box to name Clayton the starting shortstop for the NL.

Expos trade for Livan Hernandez
The 'Spos will probably move him again at the trade deadline.

White
You have to remember that White was ineffective in Colorado, but when he went to St. Louis he was awesome. I'm not concerned about White, he'll be a good addition to that bullpen. I like the fact that he's not afraid to come inside on a batter, back them off the plate. I hope the younger guys will be watching him.

Royce Ring
I didn't see anything about Ring being a starter in that article. It did say that Ring would start this season with Birmingham, but I took that as he'd begin the season there. not that he would be in Birmingham's rotation.

But he controls the purse strings. Yea, but i bet the rest force him to stay within constraints... i doubt they want to take a loss on team.... Honestly, he is obligated to try and make the team profitable. But referring to the post that started this thread, I believe that if they would go for a chamionship, and achieve it, then the team would be very profitable for many years to come. What if he goes out and spends 25 mil per season extra? Is there a guarentee that will put fans in the seats? is there a guarantee that he will win a championship? I think hes done a fairly decent job so far. Now if hes smart enough realise he has a GREAT core of young players here in maggs, Crede, Buehrle, Garland, the entire bullpen... and signs em up... we might have success long term... He's not smart enough... reference Buerhle.

WTF is the billy goat curse? Back in the early 1900's... some guy bought a ticket for, and tried to bring into Wrigley, a billy goat. The Cubs wouldn't not allow the goat to enter the stadium. The guy put a curse on the Cubs and they haven't been to the World Series since.

Loazia wins #5 spot
I believe Danny will go north with the big club, unless he experiences a sore elbow again. He's a good young pitcher, and pitched good enough in the second half to establish himself as a part of the rotation until he proves otherwise.

He did in 2001, We made a huge jump in payroll, didnt get any results. Last year we were losing money... so the huge payroll dumps at the trading deadline... where KW got FLEECED in a few trades... The loss of income was also obvious in our drafting strategy last year. we didnt spend a lotta money on the draft, and that really agravated me... as we are usually very good about that. This year i believe that KW is on record as saying hes not using all his payroll flexibilty right now.... so he has room to manuver at the deadline incase he needs to add another player or 2 to make the strech run. True, but still, it seems like it's always been a half-assed effort. I really wish he'd try and win a championship, instead of just trying to be "competitive".

I'll tell you what I think... I'm glad you're freind put that dude in his place. Accusing someone of being a traitor because they have difference of opinion is assinine. Even more so because he is a veteran.
