QUOTE(Lefty Of Love @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) He just picked the Sox to win the series on Around the Horn...it's only taken 7 months and 108 wins. Just last week he picked them to lose... flip flopping jag bag...

QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) Actually... I have seen the kitchen guys at work make an attempt at it. They know they are pretty bad Also- the term 'less fortunate' is a stretch when tou are making as much as they do. Well, I'm talking of being raised less fortunate, he was from the Dominican Republic and was signed at 17.

QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) LOL Vizcaino writes like a f***ing retard Have you ever seen the less fortunate hispanic players write? It's tough on them, I mean, he signed at age 17.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) If you're talking about mediocracy, what about the White Sox before this season? I thought about suggesting that, but I thought I'd get flamed. -

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 05:08 PM) I think your loyalty for a team which season after season is built for mediocracy at best is really hilarious. People still root for the Bears... -

Here's the deal, the Hawks got screwed on some penalty calls. BUT they didnt helpp their own cause by taking a few dumb ones. Vorobiev looked good on O, but let his man go wide open to the net and Ohlund scored. They weren't that lazy, it was just a case of the same guys being out there on special teams and they were fatigues. Khabibulin looked average, but that's not good enough for what we paid him for. All the goals were good goals, but for a franchise goalie, I expect some great saves or something. In all, penalties killed the Hawks tonight. -

Poor coaching tonite factored into the loss. The team was stupid tonite, period. -
Ok so a family friend of ours bought season tickets this morning at like 8 AM, and DID NOT get WS tix. On TV today LIVE at like 10 the news showed people going to the ballpark and getting season tickets and WS tickets. Something is completely wrong with this situation.

Yeah right, a yes man who happened to be one of the better minor league coaches right? You guys are pathetic, we're 1/20th into the season and we're ready to fire the coach... -
Am I the only one that found this totally hilarious? I hope the Bears beat the s*** out of them and make them look worse.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) Every goalie Ive ever heard talk about it said that they'd rather the D-Man play the pass and not mess with the puck carrier in a 2 on 1. A lot of times what happens is that if the D-Man goes for the puck carrier he ends up either screening the shot or a pass gets through to the wide open other guy and it ends up in the net. Yep, totally made my point.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX PLAYOFF WINNER
Pauly8509CWS replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Totally off topic, but this has been bothering me. Anyone at the game know the song that was played before they announced the Angels lineup? Lol I know, I'm just having one of those moments where I wanted to remember it and totally forgot. It was kind of an older song, sounded like a 90's tune maybe. Anyway, The crowd tonite was electric, and I was happy to be a part of it. It was one of those nights that you'll never forget. And I'm thankful that I got to attend the game with my Dad, his first playoff game in his 53 years. Thanks White Sox, especially Mark Buerhle, for a unforgettable evening. PS, thank you umpires. -
I agree to a certain extent. I disagreed with Scotty and Arow bunting in those situations. We had enough trouble hitting, we didnt need to give up anymore outs.

anyone else confused by this?

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) Plus, Fleury has shown more upside that Thibault. Both are quality, but the reason Fleury has more upside is cause he's 20 and Thibault is thirty-something -
QUOTE(AirScott @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) defensive familiarity would be things like how they play 2-on-1s and 3-on-2s, and Bulin and the Hawks defensemen might not be on the same page yet. I guess I'm nitpicking a bit, but MOST teams play odd man breaks exactly the same, cover the pass and force the carrier to a bad angled shot. Defensemen know that rebounds go into the corners etc. Theres not a whole lot goin on there.

You did say they are built to play hard, which, implies that they should be hard hitting. Hard hitting and physical isnt the Hawks makeup. They dont have a proven power forward, like a Bertuzzi, theyre going to win games by out hustling and playing better defense than other teams. The new rules are supposed to help these guys with lower talent score goals. Ruutu, Bell, and Barnaby are the heavy hitting forwards, none of which are imposing. Vandermeer is the big defensive threat. None of which would classify this team as a tough physical team. They're young and have the potential to be very talented. Sure, theyre scrappy, but most 20 something North American forwards are. Theres no lack of heart, but they dont scare anyone by there physical play, especially without an enforcer.
-
QUOTE(LDF @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) hitting and being physical goes hand and hand. the discussion was the hawks lack of, whatever you want to call it, hitting or being physical. they are built to play hard and sometime they don't do it. Playing hard and hitting DONT go hand in hand. Some players and teams are not the hard hitting type and they still play hard. One of my favorite players to watch, Nikolai Zherdev, is decent sized, works his ass off and is a goal scoring forward, he probably will throw one check per game. You dont have to punish the other team to be successful.

They were mostly sophs and juniors and alot of them were from Canada so I'm expecting them to be pretty good next year.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) Yeah, i go to some of the games, and i've played with some of the guys at rat hockey and IMs. They actually won the national championship last year at their level. They are very good, but most of the teams they play (at home that is) are brutal. The fans, some of them belonging to a group called "the harrassing illini", are indeed brutal. However, none of them know anything about hockey, so they are really annoying. Lindenwood was horrible. The Illini took the lead and just owned them in the second and late in the third there were three fights going on simultaneously. It was crazy. The harrassing Illini may not know much, but theyre worth a few laughs IMO. Especially the, "It's all your fault" chant at the goalie. How good are the players, because U of I is one of my college choices and playing hockey would be a huge plus.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) Im not sure if you played much hockey I can't skate
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) I think Bulin is the type of goalie who relies on defensive familiarity and rhytmn. I dont think he has gotten in his groove quite yet, and isnt sure how the defense reacts in situations. Give him some time, he will improve. I agree he will improve, but defensive familiarty? You either see and stop the puck or you dont. Theres no familiarity, unless of course he became unfamiliar with a puck during the lockout.
