QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) i am so sick and tired of this b/s ploy that Iran and North Korea keep on doing. hasn't history taught the world anything??? things will repeat it self. look at British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain and his appeasing a certain leader on his aggressive approach to build up his country and the many yrs of that failed effort. that leader was Hitler and the consequences was WW2. the thing is, what can be done about it, short of military response and what of the backlash?? The only thing that can be done is to invade and kill millions of people. If you disagree, you are Neville Chamberlain. Hitler.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 06:43 AM) Lloyd Bentsen to Dan Quayle was a lot more memorable...in any election in history? Beating Lincoln/Douglas, Dewey/Truman, Wilson/Taft/Roosevelt, Kennedy vs. Nixon, etc.? Sanders just gift-wrapped the nomination. Can America elect someone who honeymooned in Russia, supported the Sandanistas in Nicaragua and tried to visit Castro in Cuba? Damn Sandanistas! He should have supported the Contras!!!! I would love to know how many people in this country under the age of 40 even know that Nicaragua is a country. Let alone it's history.

Jason Heyward is probably going to get a huge deal, but I would love for the Sox to sign him. Just turned 26. Plus offense and plus defense.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) They also haven't faced a good offense yet. They might not face one all year. Doesn't mean the defense isn't good.
-
Packers defense is better than the Packer offense right now. Weird to see.

People obsess about first round picks, but teams need good overall drafts. You can miss on the first round if you hit in the later rounds. First round picks used to be more important because the contracts used to be huge. Not that way anymore.

White Sox peripherally make news for Cub Hating
GoSox05 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not rooting for the Cubs, not really rooting for any team this playoffs, but I don't get some of the active rooting for the team that is playing the Cubs or actively rooting against them. I have some family(some of them are getting up there in age) and friends who are Cub fans and I know this would be awesome for them to see the Cubs win it. Sure there will be a lot of annoying fans if they win it, but I know it would be really nice to see longtime fans be happy. Also, f*** that bar. Here is another pleasant story about them. Is there any good 3B prospects that are being blocked by someone else? I'd prefer to trade for a younger player and not sign an aging one.

He totally hits it on purpose. He could have just grabbed it and went to a knee. Which makes me think he didn't know that rule.

On that last play in the Seahawks vs. Lions. The ref was standing right in front of KJ Wright when he batted the ball out of bounds. He even reaches for the flag, but stops himself. I would love to see an interview with him as to why he didn't throw it. That being said if Calvin Johnson doesn't reach for the end zone and just goes down. Lions have first and ten from the 1 yard line. Also would have the chance to run the clock down.

That disaster is just starting. Although the schedule will be nice to them. So they should probably win some of those. Also as far as coaching goes. That team is dysfunctional. Watch the OL play. They look lost.
-
After the disaster that Chip Kelly has been. Teams might shy away from the college level for a year or two.

@RapSheet The #Dolphins are firing coach Joe Philbin, source said.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) 4. "Second Amendment, baby." Here's a good time to remind everyone that the Second Amendment was written by slaveholders before we had electricity, much less the kind of weaponry that would-be murderers can buy today. But sure, if you think it's that precious, we can compromise: If you love the Second Amendment that much, feel free to live in a powdered wig and s*** in a chamberpot while trying to survive off what you can kill with an 18th century musket. In exchange, let those of us living in this century pass some laws so we can feel safe going to class, or the movies, or anywhere without worrying that some maladjusted man will try to get his revenge by raining death on random strangers. Hey Amanda, FYI, all of the amendments were written then, including the first which lets you spew your idiotic nonsense all over the new media, that ALSO wasn't even thought of back then. If you love your first amendment so much, feel free to live in a world without television, radio and the internet, and try and get your message across with one of ole Ben Frankiln's printing presses. Just come out and say what you want, you want to ban guns. There are no laws short of that that you can pass that will 'make you feel safe'. Isn't that what the magical 'gun free zone' was supposed to do? Just for the record, Umpqua Community College is not a "gun free zone".

I always thought he was overrated as a passer. He can still fly out of the pocket and pick up big gains, but I think teams have figured that out for the most part. His throwing now is downright awful. He threw about 4 or 5 balls right in the ground yesterday on about 6 yard passes. He also threw a couple out of bounds that missed the WR by about 10-15 yards. He tends to look down a WR and if that WR is covered or not he is throwing it. I think Jim Harbaugh got the best out of him. It also didn't hurt that the OL they used to have was probably the best in the NFL.

It's amazing to see how bad Colin Kaepernick has become. I don't think he will be starting in a week or so.

Anonymous NFL Draft Scouts Thought Aaron Rodgers Was Just a System Quarterback There are ton of these quotes from scouts. I don't remember any of them saying that Rodgers was only good because of his running game.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) Goff throws the ball almost 200 more times in a season than Rodgers ever did in college. Not sure how that makes you not good. Drew Brees used to throw well over 500 a year. Derek Carr, who is playing pretty well in the NFL right now, threw almost 700 one year. Manning used to throw a lot as well. I was referring more to the "he is a system QB", "his coach makes him good" type stuff that gets thrown at Goff. That was all the same stuff you heard about Rodgers and his coach Jeff Tedford. I think it cases it can be true, but people always want to go to that. I think that is a generic term for Goff right now.
-
QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) Yeah, that's kinda what scares me about Goff. When at Louisiana Dykes had the number 1 offense in the country. Guy who was the QB for that team now plays in Japan. He was also apart of those Texas Tech teams that put up ridiculous numbers without producing an NFL QB. I'm not comparing the two players, but what you just described is the exact reason Aaron Rodgers fell to the Packers.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) His fumble was not on a free play. The play was bailed out by a defensive holding at the last minute in the end zone. Penalty was for illegal contact downfield. If Rodgers didn't have the ball then that penalty can't be called. He also has to be in the pocket.

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) Looks like PFF did a write-up about Rodgers's grade. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/...negative-grade/ Basically, 1. They say not to automatically take any number that begins with a minus to mean "bad." They say it's really more like average when it's that near to zero. 2. His fumble cost him. 3. He threw multiple TDs to Randall Cobb that were basic out routes that Cobb turned into touchdowns. 4. He threw what should have been an interception for TD if not for a bad non-catch by the DB. Because Rodgers did his job badly on that play, he gets downgraded. So does the DB for dropping it. 1. When they rank his performance from last night behind Blake Bortles, who lost by almost 50 points. It has to be looked at as negative performance. Rodgers was ranked 17th out of the starting qb's from this past week. Let that sit in for a second. 2. His fumble was on a free play. They docked him points for a couple of big plays because they were on free plays, but the fumble is counted in full. There is little logic in that. Free plays that he created pre snap by the way. 3. This is really a big one and the hardest to rank. Even PFF has admitted today they don't rank anything presnap. So if Rodgers saw something in coverage and moved Cobb over to his right, which ended up making the play look easy, he gets no credit for that and it all goes to Cobb. 4. Should have been an INT. So I have no problem docking him on that play. Although it wasn't that close, the LB would have had to make a great catch on a fastball he wasn't expecting. Still a bad pass. Also one of the guys from PFF tweeted today that Rodgers shouldn't get that much credit for throws that "you or me" could make. I thought that was one of the dumber things i've heard and makes me wonder if Rodgers makes things look so easy that people are taking it for granted. He was talking about a couple of the TD to Cobb.
-
If you watch that game last night and grade Rodgers out as negative, you need to rethink how you grade players. They gave the same grade to Teddy Bridgewater who had 121 yards passing, 0 TD and 1 INT. Rodgers had 5 TD, 333 passing yards and 0 turnovers. So to them, that is pretty much the same performance. Also, the original grade they had on Rodgers was -2.2, they changed it to -0.8. So originally they had him and Jimmy Clausen having equally bad games.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) Yup definitely. Did they take away something from the free-play TDs he had as well? Maybe that was part of the reason his grade was low. Yeah, they took something away from the free plays that went for TD and big yards, but the fumble he had was also on a free play, so it should go both ways.
-
Pro Football Focus gave Aaron Rodgers a grade of -0.8 for his play last night. I like PFF, but I don't know how you come up with that.
-
Damn, the Bears already paid him 11.5 million this year.
