  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) Is that code for "Hafner is trying to find another new formula of undetectable Steroids so he cant get his production back up to where it was when he was juicing" Exactly. He's of no concern to the White Sox or AL Central unless he finds some crazy ass stuff that the tests don't detect. I can't think of a more obvious juicer in the sport when you consider the dropoff he's had since the testing was beefed up.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 04:43 AM) I wonder what they do with Edwin Jackson next year, do they trade him in a package for a DH/RF or have him in long relief. I cant imagine Sonnanstine losing his rotation spot after what he has shown in playoffs and Price has to be a starter. It's scary that they can be a better team next season. I'd trade Sonnanstine if I were them. He's probably going to be at peak value after this postseason, he'll be 26 on opening day next year, and he has by far the most ordinary stuff of the guys they have. Do that, and you have the balance of three righties and two lefties in your rotation, and Shields/Kazmir/Garza/Price/Jackson will be a rotation unmatched in the sport IMO if you head that direction next season.
  3. I watched the first 3 games from puck drop to final horn. I will not see any of tonight's game, let's hope me not watching brings the Hawks some good luck.
  4. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 08:19 AM) I've only watched part of one Alabama game, but I'm a little surprised that Texas went all the way to #1. Probably the kiss of death this season for the Longhorns. Texas beat what was the clear #1 team in the nation on a neutral field. Alabama's win at Georgia was just as if not more impressive IMO, but the voters saw Texas pick up a great victory Saturday and Alabama have the day off. That is probably why they jumped to #1, of course it doesn't really mean much. As long as you are in the top 2, life is good, and really at this point the rankings don't mean much because everybody seems to lose at least once anyways. Penn State is probably in the best shape to go undefeated, as outside of the Ohio State game in Columbus, they don't have another game on the schedule they could lose unless they just don't show up.
  5. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) My guess is Witten will end up with more catches than either guy anyways. Romo loves him down the middle. That's why both will end up unhappy. There is barely enough action for just T.O. right now with as many touches as Barber and Witten get. With the injury to Jones, there are more touches to go around, but Brad Johnson is very washed up and the Cowboys are going to have problems until Romo comes back. The move makes sense when you realize T.O. is 34 years old and probably on the very last legs of being an above average NFL wide receiver. In 2 or 3 years, this move probably looks smart for Dallas when T.O. can't really play anymore, but right now it just seems like a move destined to cause team chemistry disaster, which they already have enough of with "Adam" Jones. The one good piece of news for them is apparently Mike Jenkins will be starting now. To me, he's a future pro bowler and the most talented corner on the roster. If Newman ever gets healthy, they would have no use for Jones IMO if they had Jenkins and a healthy Newman starting with Anthony Henry at nickel. All 3 of them are better than Jones IMO. A random Bears note: If the horrific injury bug continues at CB this week with Peanut, Vasher, and McBride all injured, I would hope they play Zackary Bowman a bit (although if all 3 are out, I think they'd have to play him at least some). I liked him when he was drafted, and think he can play some corner. I know I don't like Marcus Hamilton already after watching what he did on the infamous 2nd to last play of Sunday's game.
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) Optimistic: 19-14 (6-10) Pessimistic: 12-20 (2-24) Realistic: 16-16 (4-12) It's kind of wildcard since we don't know what we have, but we probably don't have much. Yes, a lot depends on Brackins, but Staiger and Vanderbeken will also have to step up. BTW: Wow the pessimistic one is REALLY pessimistic. It adds 10 conference games to the slate and has them all losses.
  7. People who didn't realize Longoria was clearly the rookie of the year and that Tampa Bay is clearly really good just didn't know what they were talking about. I know Boston has been here before, but I'd be shocked if they pull off a comeback this time.
  8. NIU and Illinois are both a year away as the calvary really begins to arrive in 2009-2010 for both squads. Hopefully they both have fun seasons this year though, I have only modest hopes for both sides however.
  9. Dallas was having enough trouble keeping everybody happy, getting Roy Williams will make it even more difficult. Combine that with the fact they really overpaid and this move has disaster written all over it. T.O. and Roy Williams can't and won't co-exist long term.
  10. Upton's lack of power this season was baffling, especially considering he sluggled a little over .500 in 2007. It's unfortunate he found the power stroke against us, but he clearly has really found it. He's been a good player the last two seasons, but this postseason could really vault him into superstardom, a realization of his full potential, and a great 2009 and beyond. As for tonight, Sonnastine vs. Wakefield is just about impossible to predict IMO. One thing is for sure though, Boston BETTER win. They've got enough problems with Beckett pitching hurt, but to fall behind 3-1 with potential games 6 and 7 in St. Petersburg might be too much for even them to overcome.
  11. Matt Stairs is a joy to watch. He even admits his entire approach is to get ahead in the count and hit a long home run, which is awesome. He certainly did last night, that was as far as I've ever seen a ball hit at Dodger Stadium during a night game. This series is "OVA!!" I'd be surprised if Hamels doesn't end it Wednesday night.
  12. The Chargers looked liked the Chargers for only the 2nd time this season tonight, they seem to like the national television games. Although San Diego, New England, and Indianapolis have fallen under the radar due to relatively unremarkable play, all of them are still right in the race for the AFC postseason.
  13. 130 members, including 670 the score producer Herb Lawrence, who I didn't know read the site.
  14. Also, as much jocking as the NFC East gets from the media, the NFC South is just as good a division IMO. Obviously, the NFC East has the best team in the entire league right now in the Giants, but the NFC South is loaded and quite balanced. It's similar to college football, where the SEC is getting all the credit but the Big 12 is just as good if not better.
  15. Getting back on the topic of relevant things, Dallas is clearly quite overrated and Arizona is clearly quite good. I don't even think the Cardinals can screw up winning the awful NFC West at this point.
  16. OMG THE REFS LET ARIZONA WIN!!!! THEY DIDN'T CALL A MYSTERY PENALTY ON THE CARDINALS!!
  17. QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 12, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) did you watch the 1st half of the dallas AZ game? Dallas was handed this game! Arizona was up 10 with only a few minutes left. They had Dallas in a 4th and very long, only to allow them to hit about a 35 yard pass as time was running out. The refs have been very bad in this game, but that is only a small factor in why this game is still going right now.
  18. You know, if Arizona hadn't collapsed and allowed 10 points in about 3 minutes, most noteably allowing a slow running back who runs like a fullback go 70 yards on a screen pass, this game would be over. The officiating has been poor, but it isn't why this game is in overtime, it isn't why the Bears lost, and so on. You guys are like Hawk Harrelson, just completely overdoing the affect of the officiating (well, in that case it's the umpiriing) on a game.
  19. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 12, 2008 -> 03:46 PM) How often do guys go 80 yards?... A lot more often than you see a team blow a two point lead attained with 11 seconds left without the involvement of a hail mary. The squib kick was the right call. It was executed poorly, and they were STILL in great shape to win the game. The last pass play goes on Mike Brown for being useless at covering, but mainly Bob Babich and Lovie Smith for (1) having Mike Brown in the game during a passing situation and ESPECIALLY (2) calling a defense that leaves holes in the exact area of the field the Falcons needed to get to win the game.
  20. The clock work was iffy the last two minutes of the game, but the Bears deserved to lose that game. Their defense was a joke all day (Atlanta wins big if they hadn't got conservative inside the 30 and settled for field goals all day), they scored 0 points on a drive that had 3rd and goal inside the 1, and the display the defense/coaches put on on that last play before the field goal was as bad as you'll ever see.
  21. I thought Illinois would go 8-4. I thought they might actually have a better team, but due to that schedule, I figured 8-4 and MAYBE 9-3. After yesterday though, that is clearly wrong. Ron Zook was right back in Florida form yesterday, having a team outplay a team they are much better then, but still lose due to stupid s***. Games like that are why he was HATED in Gainesville. It really was sickening to watch yesterday, even though I am an NIU student (thank God they won yesterday) I always have and will root for the Illini. Usually I don't get emotionally invested to the point where they make me mad, but it was impossible not to reach that point yesterday.
  22. QUOTE (daa84 @ Oct 12, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) how in the f***ING OWORLD do you not kick that ball deep?!?!?!? Umm because the last time they did that, the guy went 80 yards. The squib kick wasn't the problem, Babich calling a soft cover 2 defense with 6 seconds left allowing the receiver to get into an open zone 20 yards down the field unimpeded was. I thought NOBODY could lose in more pathetic and embarrassing fashion in 2008 than the Chicago Cubs, but I was wrong. A team in the very same city managed to do it. That is the most pathetic thing I've ever seen, I've NEVER seen a team fall behind with 11 seconds left and win without a hail mary in my life at the major college or pro football level. People should be fired for that game.
  23. For those who missed it, here is The Daily Show making fun of the Cubs as well.
  24. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 12:20 AM) In retrospect, because I was not at Game 2 of the World Series, the tie breaker game was the best Sox game I have ever been to. Still is 2nd to Illinois-Arizona all time, but I still can't get over the energy the Cell had for this game. Yeah I was at Illinois-Arizona, and that one is pretty much untouchable in terms of energy and noise, outside of Sox playoff games and sadly I've never been to any of those.
  25. For those of you that weren't at the game (like me), check it out. I figured it deserved it's own thread since there isn't a catch all anymore. Great stuff.
