  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) For the undecideds: http://www.selectsmart.com/president/2008.html I did that, and my result was 61 percent McCain and 61 percent Obama. Figures.
  2. Well first off, Danks will be on regular rest as he pitched Sunday. But I would start Richard over Javy. I KNOW Javy will choke, I only think Richard will. How's that for optimism?
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 12:37 PM) Rotoworld yesterday Well if the original post in this thread is accurate in that it was said this morning on sportscenter, I think and hope that it holds higher precedent than rotoworld yesterday.
  4. I'd buy on Bulger too. The one problem with him though is he's proven he can look awful if he has a bad group of players around him, and as long as Jerry Angelo runs the team, you KNOW that Bulger will have a group of bad players around him. The only exception to that of course is Matt Forte, but Bulger does have Stephen Jackson in St. Louis too.
  5. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 09:00 AM) me too. Penn State looks to be the class of the Big 10 as of now. Them or Wisconsin should win that league. Penn State has done nothing yet but beat a bunch of scrubs at home (and yes, I still think Oregon State isn't that good, just like Stanford sucked last year even though they won at USC). Penn State also crushed 4 scrubs (yes, Notre Dame was a scrub) out of conference last year, but only went 4-4 in league play. I'll wait and see how they look Saturday night before coming to any conclusions. As of now, Wisconsin is the team to beat in the Big 10 IMO.
  6. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) Yeah I can see that. But still it isn't over yet, and the Sox have done a pretty good job in holding the lead for as long as they ahve considering the injuries they've had over the 2nd half of the season. I think we're only a couple of moves away from winning the whole thing to be honest. Get an upgrade for Contreras, improve at 2B/3B/CF and this team can easily win over 90 games next season IMHO. We haven't held the lead as much as Minnesota has refused to take it, at least up until the last three days. I have no idea how close we are to winning a World Series though. Our starting pitching isn't bad (although I would strongly consider trading Vazquez), and if we can pick up a couple guys at the spots you mentioned to add some balance to our lineup then we'd be in great shape there. But what about the bullpen? As Hawk accurately points out all the time, you can't win in today's game without a good bullpen. Bobby Jenks is not a guy I can totally trust anymore as is stuff gets worse every year, Dotel has been bad since the overuse started to get to him and I worry how his arm will respond next season at his age, Linebrink is obviously a big injury question, and what do we have after that? Thornton and that's about it. I know EVERYBODY has bullpen questions, but I have no idea how we will fix ours.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) Excuse me, I wish this team had more guys like OC. I wish our organization agreed. But they'd rather have slow, washed up guys with questionable desire. And yeah, before the holier than thou's bombard me with "hey, the veterans on this team have rings too", save it. We played deadball late in 2006 and now we've done it again late in 2008. The veterans on this team are fat and happy with the ring they got in 2005, and that's a f***ing shame. I give OC credit, he has a ring too and he still gives a s*** at least.
  8. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 10:57 AM) I know everyone feels like s*** ATM, but you still have to remember that the Sox have had a good season, and much better than most people anticipated. We're in a much better place than where we were 1 year ago, when there a LOT of question being asked, and I don't think people should lose sight of that. And it ain't over til it's over, just like in 2005, anything can happen, I can't say I'm confident at all, but hey I'm hopeful as hell, and hopefully we'll get it together and at least make the playoffs. I can't argue with any of this, and the 2nd paragraph is especially accurate. However, assuming we fail to make the playoffs, most of the goodwill built by this team's surprise season is gone because they flat out collapsed. It's not a classic collapse like the Mets of 2007, but Minnesota entered this series an abysmal 7-12 record in September, yet we let them stay close AND then put up a lifeless effort in getting swept by their struggling squad to put ourselves in this bad situation. When you collapse, all the goodwill you may have built dies, just like your season.
  9. There is always an excuse. Always. The Sox almost invariably lose a division they could (if not should) win, and the fans almost invariably make excuses for KW. It must be nice to have a job where you can fail the vast, vast majority of the time and the fans back you up because of one season. The reason we've been bad this September starts with Carlos, but the fact this team could not win one game in Minnesota is inexcuseable, period. We may have been bad this month, but heading into this series Minnesota had been worse and we did nothing about it the last three days. Couldn't even win once, and that is pathetic. Of course, if another miracle happens in the next 3 to 5 days, I will look stupid. But I'm not counting on it.
  10. The old f***s/purists hate this idea, but it's coming. Expanded replay will be in a ballpark near you within 5 years, at most.
  11. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) I honestly can't believe this is happening right now. New to being a Sox fan? 2005 was a total aberration, this team ALWAYS chokes when things get tight in September. Even that team spent about 6 weeks gagging away all but 1.5 game of a 15 game lead before finding themselves and completing a run to glory.
  12. The other thing I know will come from the holier than thou, "rational" fans is 'Well, if Quentin hadn't got hurt, we'd have won this division by several games'. Are they right? Probably, but first off, f*** that guy for hurting himself by punching a bat. At this point, I don't care if it was an accident, what a f***ing idiot he is. Second, this team has still choked. We have proven time and time again that we can't win a close race in September for many years now (unless of course, we blow a 15 game lead and manage to avoid the greatest collapse in sports history). This team has no balance, large parts of it's core are washed up, and significant change is needed. We have some nice building blocks, but unless significant change is made, 2005 will not have any shot at repeating itself anytime soon.
  13. QUOTE (aboz56 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:38 PM) Wait, you're calling a guy who helped lead the Sox to a World Series a bum and Orlando Cabrera a winner? The Angels surely didn't miss Cabrera and he's not exactly lighting the world on fire for the Sox. Except he's hitting .303 since the all star break, and more specifically, .353 with a .409 on base in September.
  14. QUOTE (aboz56 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) Cabrera will be gone in three days. Who cares what he says? Good riddance. So you think he is wrong, and the losers on this team that have spent the last month choking in fear are right? Good riddance indeed, moves like letting him go are why we consistently fail in September (and October I guess you can throw in there, even though we haven't been there and failed in 8 years), outside of 2005. It amazes me more and more by the day that 2005 happened, because every other team of ours finds a way to blow it. Always.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:34 PM) With the tone this week has set, it's setting up for something very bad to happen in a month from now. Come on fathom, those losers has nothing to do with this. They are going to have their own problems in the postseason. At least they'll be in it though, beats what we have.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) Bobby Jenks failed miserably tonight I meant Mark Buehrle, sorry! Edit made.
  17. The one thing I said about this team all year if they aren't very good, but they play hard. Well, they didn't even play hard the last three days, and it'd be hard to argue they have at all this month. We probably only score one run tonight if not for self induced mistakes by Minnesota, so don't give me that either. Outside of Mark Buehrle, every single player on the team choked and failed the last three days. Major changes are absolutely essential this offseason. This team may have some guys with rings, but they are just a bunch of losers. Carlos Quentin is the man who started the wheels of destroying our season in motion, but boy the rest of the team did a great job of finishing it off. There isn't much this team could do this offseason to upset me outsiding of getting rid of Floyd, Danks, Ramirez, or Quentin (as long as he promises not to destroy anymore of our seasons through not thinking), and that includes firing Kenny or Ozzie. I'm not even that angry, this team is a joke, an embarassment, and should not be allowed into the playoffs without buying tickets. Angry isn't the word, embarassed is. Embarassed to be a White Sox fan, for the first time in my life. I figured there will be plenty of irrational anger threads, so I tried to keep this as rational as possible. If you want to try to do the same, go ahead.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) Guys stop s***ting on Dye... the guy was amazing all year until this month. Dye hit .242 with a .272 on base in August. He's been bad since the trade deadline.
  19. If they pitch to Span here, Ozzie should be fired, even if Span makes an out.
  20. I can't argue with a word of what he said right now. Cabrera is one of the few guys that gets it, and he's one of the guys that won't be back next season. What does that say about the direction of the franchise?
  21. Is there anybody left that wants to argue with the statement about this division that has been on my signature for about 10 weeks? A lot of people argued with me about it for a while, and all of them were wrong.
  22. The 11th inning is nothing but an impossible dream at this point.
  23. QUOTE (rangercal @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) Nathan can't continue at 120% adrenaline 2 nights in a row without making a mistake, can he? He has and will make mistakes. Problem is, we can't and won't hit them.
