QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 10:16 AM) http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/...hits-the-trail/ Obama without a teleprompter is like a fish out of water. If he wins, he'll probably wheel one around the White House and use it while talking to foreign leaders and dignitaries.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) Unless we have a 3+ lead heading into that Minny series, there is no magic number. Do people really think we can't win even a single game up there with Liriano not pitching? That's sad if true. Even I have more faith in us than that.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/tv_total_request_live I remember when I was a kid and this show first started with Carson Daly. I'm not sure if it was actually a good show then, or if I just liked it because I was 12 and could occasionally catch a rap video on there. Either way, it's clear that this show has seen it's time come and go in the era of youtube and other technologies. I don't think I've watched it in about 7 years, but RIP TRL.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) I wish I could link some threads from around this time in '05... We F'n SUCKED according to everybody if I recall..... That's a pretty weak comparision. We didn't have nearly as many injuries at this time in 2005, and our bullpen was about 100 times better.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) yes 12. It is 11 to at least force a 1 game playoff (which would be in Chicago), but 12 to clinch. Just to back up the last part of this statement: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/press_releases/pre...sp&c_id=mlb

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) McCain spokeswoman Carly Fiorina: Apparently Ms. Fiorina and Governor Palin need to have a chat in the morning to get their stories straight. -
I'm not sure who we can put in out of the bullpen. Wassermann and Ramirez obviously suck, but Dotel is obviously out of gas, it's clear Linebrink is VERY limited in what he can do because he's still hurting, Jenks can't be used until the 9th and even then he's struggling. Other than Thornton (who threw in both games yesterday, so I doubt he was available), who can we trust? Even Carrasco has started to come back to earth this month (9.45 ERA in 7 innings IIRC).

Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread

The whole reason Jackson took as long as he did to get drafted (other than the fact he weighed about 160 pounds soaking wet during his Cal days) is he is just a dummy. He has all the talent in the world, but people as dumb as him tend to run into trouble. -
QUOTE (G&T @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) Know what, the Twins are in the same position the Sox are. I completely agree. This looks like it'll be more of an army crawl through the jungle, with both sides struggling for survival, than a "race".

Well one thing is clear: If it's close and late, we're dead. Obviously the offense deserves some blame for their atrocious effort this evening, as 2 runs won't win you a lot of big games. But at the same time, if it's 2-2, 5-5, or 8-8, and the 7th inning or later, we're in trouble unless the starter is still in. Our only chance right now is to build up a lead of significance and hope the bullpen can only give up a couple of runs. That's a rough way to go, especially with all the injuries to everyday players, but it's all we have. Ozzie took Mark out an inning too early tonight, but with the way our offense and bullpen looked, I'm not sure it mattered all that much.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 08:45 PM) I'm starting to think your sig is accurate. I don't agree with "bad" team. But definitely average. The overall resume of the division winner won't be bad. But the AL Central Champion will be BY FAR the worst playoff team in this league. Bad is a relative term.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 06:55 PM) THe McCain campaign said the segment was sexist. Figures. Huh? Palin said she thought the skit was funny and pointed out she dressed up as Tiny Fey on halloween a few years ago. -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 06:52 PM) The sole reason Obama won is because he mobilized the youth caucus-goers in Iowa. Obama doesn't win Iowa, he doesn't win the nomination. You're basically looking at his focus on the college campuses in Iowa City and Ames, having those kids go home to individual precincts over winter break (where it makes a bigger difference, cause delegate counts can and do shift on the thinking of one caucus goer). At my caucus, there was not one Hillary supporter under 30. But there were enough under 30 to swing my ward to a tie between Edwards and Obama. It's our fault. The totally f***ed part? At the caucuses, 17-29 year olds made up 22%. THE EXACT SAME as 65 and older, the ones that go Hillary's way. When's the last time you saw the amount of under 30 and over 65 voters match up? Especially on a cold January night? There's no question that Obama did a great job in Iowa and that was the only reason he was even in the race with a shot on Super Tuesday, let alone the favorite after it. But at the same time, Hillary lost the nomination more than Obama won it, IMO.

It amazes me how many people of great intellect are tortured souls mentally. Rest in peace.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) I'm drawing a blank. With the Cubs a lock to have the best record in the NL, they would play the WC team in the NLDS as long as it's not the Brewers, right? Yeah, can't have two teams from the same division play in the first round.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) Game over Stros' got 1 hit in 2 "neutral site" games. Pitiful. The Astros hitting struggles (well, 1 hit in 18 innings is beyond struggles, it's pathetic) were clearly caused by the intimidating 20 thousand Cubs fans who half filled Miller Park for the two games. Astros win both games if they are at a true neutral site, because if the games had been played in a near empty empty stadium, it would have caused them to hit better.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) Forget everything I've said about Arizona this year. They've been easily, IMO, the most dissapointing team in the league. Especially when you consider how they started. Arizona, Detroit, and Cleveland are easily the 3 biggest dissapointments. Put them in any order.

QUOTE (lord chas @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) i dont know about that. i keep hearing various reports that the astros showed up to miller park a mere two hours before sundays game due to mlb's incompetence. asking them to travel a long distance in an essential road game while being concerned over your family and home is inexcusable in my book. arlington or atlanta could have been done but selig wants the cubs in the world series and will do all he can to make himself more money at the expense of the astros The bolded is ridiculous. Two games in mid September for a team with a huge lead for best record in the NL will have no affect on if they make the world series or not. And they couldn't have put it in Arlington or Tampa, the Rangers are at home today as are the Rays. The Royals are also at home today, it rained a lot in St. Louis yesterday, and so on. You also don't want to put the game outside, as you are at the mercy of the conditions. It shouldn't have been put in Milwaukee, but this isn't as easy as people think.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) I think it was Cecil Cooper on the radio talking about how they packed without power and thye weren't really sure what was going to happen with their families and homes and what not then they had to leave. They wanted to play in Atlanta or Florida but MLB wanted the games to be played in dome and I believe Tampa was at home. After hearing this I think it was absolutly a dick move by MLB. I believe they would have forced them to play at Wrigley if the weather would have been better. They had no hits for the first 15 innings of this mini-series. What MLB did was probably a "dick move", but you lose your right to complain when your offense doesn't show up. If they had lost a couple of 1 or 2 run games, that's one thing, but they are getting their asses kicked.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) With a competent manager the Brewers, not the Cubs, are going for their second straight division title. Yost was absolutely terrible. He had to go. Agreed. I'm not sure if the Brewers would have won the division this year with a competent manager, but they'd for sure have won last year and would at least have a comfortable lead in the wild card this year while being much closer to the Cubs in the division if their manager didn't suck.

You can't ignore the fact that Obama is from Chicago, and dirty politics are as much a part of Chicago as cold weather is a part of the North Pole. Besides that, I don't buy it. Hillary ran a bad campaign and it got her beat, simple as that.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) Questionable error call on Ramirez to start the inning. Could have been called either way. It took them a while to call it, but I thought that was definitely an error. Abercrombie is fast so that makes the call a bit iffy, but if Ramirez doesn't boot it he definitely throws him out IMO. EDIT: There's a clean single. Now it's over.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) Gameday says he walked Berkman. But even getting no hit by Ted Lilly would be unbelievably pathetic. You are right, my bad, he does have a walk. Berkman got picked off, so he's faced the minimum, that's what threw me off. Still, what are the odds of 6 innings (maybe more) of no hit ball the day after your teammate threw a no hitter?
