  1. I think a senario like this is the only way we'll ever get rid of the electoral college. So between that and how fascinating the process would be, I'd like to see this happen, even though the odds are almost impossible.
  2. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) Seriously, I don't care if he's African American, Chinese American, Arab American, Whitey American, what the hell ever. The man's an AMERICAN, so can we STFU about it now? I do know the point he was trying to make, though... I agree with part one of this, but what point WAS he trying to make?
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) Reading some of Biden's choice comments, he is too busy digging his own grave to dig anyone else's. I agree with this too, which is why the VP debate is going to be so fascinating. It could be a trainwreck either way. I just fear for Palin in this debate, she doesn't seem like she knows what she is talking about yet. The inexperience shows. Biden says things that are dumb, but Palin says things that imply lack of knowledge, and that can look really bad.
  4. Biden would be smart to avoid attacking Palin at all costs during their debate. Let her dig her own grave.
  5. That shirt is pretty outrageous, and obviously a case of the parents political agenda being pushed since it's homemade, so I can't blame the school for taking action. I mean, the comment that school systems are full of liberal loons isn't far off, and I do believe in freedom of speech, but that shirt is pretty over the top and the Dad is clearly just looking for attention here.
  6. Well, I'm glad I've been wrong so far!! We'll find out if I was ultimately right or wrong to feel that way in the next week.
  7. QUOTE (rangercal @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) Galloway is a has been. 74 yards in 2 games. Nonsense. He was playing through injuries those two games, and he had over a thousand yards receiving and half a dozen touchdowns last year as a key part of a division champion who had a real has been (Jeff Garcia) at quarterback. As for who's better between the Bears and Buccaneers, that doesn't matter. I think Tampa Bay is going to have a better season, but the Bears were the better team yesterday and still found a way to lose. That's inexcuseable.
  8. Baseball is BY FAR the hardest sport to reach the postseason in, even with the expansion of the postseason over the years. I can't blame a team for celebrating it, even as a Cub hater with an anti-Cub agenda. Their celebration had nothing to do with them losing last year, and it will have nothing to do with what happens in the postseason this year, win or lose.
  9. QUOTE (rangercal @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) kind of like the Vikings with peterson? Exactly. This team is built like the Vikings, except the Vikings have a better running back and defense.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) Well prob around 50 percent of Bears fans are Cubs fans, so there you go. Either way, the Bears are better than TB, they just let it slip away, and the refs didnt help much either. But, s***, Forte is a STUD There is no doubt the Bears were the better team yesterday, and found a way to blow it. Forte is indeed a stud, but I question if the Bears will ever be able to use him properly. Between having Ron Turner as an offensive coordinator, Kyle Orton as the quarterback, and this receiving corps, the Bears will obviously see 8 and 9 in the box more and more as the season goes on. I just think I'm going to spend my whole life seeing bad Bear quarterbacks and bad Bear offenses.
  11. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) There's too much American Lingo to learn here. I'm having enough problems with the British stuff I have to learn already. That's rough. Learning American and British lingo in the English language at the same time has to be difficult because they are spoken so differently by the two groups of people, despite being the same language. The language was obviously invented over there, but it was perfected over here.
  12. Yeah I gotta go with Critic on this one, we have games in America, not matches. DBAHO, hopefully, will have all of these things figured out and be a loud, annoying American by the time he goes back home.
  13. Random, but most Bear fans are cut from the same cloth as Cub fans, just not very smart people. I don't say that in regards to the Bear fans here, as it seems like all of us have proper perspective. But it seems like the vast majority of the Bear fans you hear on ESPN and The Score are the "dumb meatheads" Boers and Bernstein make fun of. My favorite is everybody saying how bad Tampa Bay is, which is pretty funny. They've won the NFC South two of the last three years, and will be right near the top again this season with Carolina (New Orleans is going nowhere with that defense). I just figured I'd bring that up because I'm tired of talking about the game itself. I'm glad none of the meathead, dumb Bear fans have infiltrated this thread at least.
  14. Our scouts need to be fired immediately if they thought Kenny's kid was worthy of a 6th round pick. He could end up in the hall of fame for all I care, but he'd still have been there for us to pick if we had waited another 10 rounds.
  15. QUOTE (qwerty @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 11:37 PM) This three days rest talk is being blown out of proportion to me, especially only during a twelve game stretch. If we don't make the playoffs i don't think i would ever think of them throwing on only three days as one of the reasons why they did not make it. I couldn't disagree more. I think that if we miss the playoffs, the three days rest decisions by Ozzie will haunt him for a long time. I think we will make the playoffs, but if we don't we will dread the term "three days rest" around here for a long time. Pitching guys on three days rest this time of year is such a huge risk. Guys are already tired due to the heavy workload of a full season, and to take a day of rest away often makes it even worse.
  16. There is no doubt Hawk is trying to hype up BA's trade value. I think Brian has done a very good job this season, but he's going to get traded.
  17. Neither team is playing well. Both sides are pulling out the classic spin of "well, the other side has blown so many chances, it's amazing we're still here", which is a classic sign neither team is playing well. Obviously, the first game of a three game series is huge, but that's ESPECIALLY the case here with the shaky play recently of both teams, especially their bullpens. My prediction is that if the Sox win Tuesday, they clinch on Friday. If the Sox don't win Tuesday, we'll only win one game up there and have to battle all weekend (if not beyond) to win this thing in only 161 or 162 games. As important as game 1 is, I can't see a sweep either way, neither team is playing well enough to pull off something like that.
  18. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 07:40 PM) I was supposed to go this year but my friends backed out once they saw some of the ticket prices. I regret not going by myself and when I'm older, I'm sure I'll regret it even more. Do you know when they are demolishing it? I know they still have a hockey game there. It is being demolished sometime in 2009 after opening day at the new place in order to be made into parking.
  19. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) Give me 1995 Nebraska, and you can take whoever you want. They are definitely the most dominant, but I think 2001 Miami would have gave them problems. Regardless, those are are the two best teams in recent memory IMO. I don't think any of the USC teams recently could have stayed with either of those squads. I'd love to have seen 1995 Nebraska play 2001 Miami, it's a shame stuff like that isn't possible.
  20. What a collapse by the Bears. I thought today's result would determine what direction the season goes for both Tampa Bay and Chicago, and today's events really makes me think that is the case. The Bears defense just collapsed. I kept hearing they were tired, but they weren't on the field at all today! They just collapsed, end of story. The offense did a pretty decent job overall, but Orton's 2 picks were inexcusable. The first one is a touchdown if he doesn't underthrow Forte, and the 2nd one gave away a touchdown to the Bucs. Just a team loss, everything failed at some point and that allowed a Tampa team who didn't play well at all to sneak out of town with a win. 1-3 and 0-2 at home looks very possible with Philly coming in, but the Bears might have caught ANOTHER big break with Westbrook hurt, just like they did in week 1 with Saturday out and week 2 with Smith out. We'll see, but this team has just been sad to watch the last two weeks. They should be 3-0, but unfortunately they've s*** their pants late in the game two weeks in a row.
  21. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 07:31 PM) It's going to be sad to see Yankee Stadium gone. Love them or hate them, there's going to be an empty feeling when seeing the Yankees play in a new stadium. It's a place every baseball fan, as well as really every sports fan, should go to. It's a shame that not everybody had the chance to visit there, and I feel fortunate I did. I will never like the Yankees, but I gained a full appreciation of their history and everything that happened at Yankee Stadium when I visited, and I think anybody else who has been there would agree with me.
  22. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 03:17 AM) ...and if it happens, it'll be the biggest one ever. NO reason they shouldn't win the NL, none. It would perhaps be a bigger failure, but I doubt it would top the choke jobs (in that sense of the word) in 1984 and 2003. In 1984, all they had to do was win one game out of three, with their 17-1 pitcher in the wings for the 5th and deciding game if needed, and they lost. In 2003, all they had to do was win one game out of three with Carlos Zambrano, Mark Prior, and Kerry Wood pitching. Two of the games were at home, and the Marlins trailed in both of them (including of course late in game 6), and they lost. This year is their best team, but it wouldn't be their biggest choke job. The playoffs are a crapshoot, and the best team doesn't often win. That's part of what made the 2005 White Sox so great, they were the best team all season and dominated the playoffs to boot.
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) Jeter got hit square on the hand in the 9th inning and had to leave the game when it was 0-0. May not play tomorrow, obviously the last game at Yankee Stadium...if you haven't heard. Meh. You can't overstate the importance of Yankee Stadium in the history of baseball and sports for that matter. The greatest franchise in the history of North American sports has won all of it's record 26 championships on those grounds. More hall of famers have called it home than any other stadium in any other sport. It's had more historical moments than any other stadium in any other sport. I don't like the Yankees at all, but the significance of the closing of that stadium can't be overrated.
  24. Until there is a hard salary cap, baseball will never truly achieve parity. The fact that the 2000 Yankees are the last repeat world champions is more of a testament to how much of a crapshoot the postseason is then anything else. Look at this year, there is a distinct possibility that half of the postseason teams will be from the 2nd and 3rd largest cities in America, with team 5 from the largest market, and team 6 from the 6th largest market. That list doesn't even include Boston and their huge payroll. Parity has improved in the last decade, but it's nowhere near where it needs to be.
  25. College football is just down this year in general in terms of the quality of teams. It's all about quarterback play in college ball, and outside of the amazing QB talent and depth in the Big 12, the quarterbacks nationwide are just awful this season.
