Ushering in a new era: The Rally Dweezy

THIS is an idea I can get with. -
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) According to some of you, when Ozzie says something controversial to the press, it's to take the heat off of his players. It didn't seem to work with Javy this time. And what happened to his guarantee that this team was gonna fight until the end? The season is not over, but we didn't see any of it last night. So, is Ozzie still the genius motivator? Motivation is overrated, as is everything Ozzie says. We lost last night for the same reason we have lost a lot lately, we aren't hitting. Javy obviously did not get the job done and that made it look very ugly, but the offense is why we lost. My bigger issue with Ozzie is Griffey should not be starting in any of these games at the spacious Metrodome, but that isn't why we lost either. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) I'm glad you brought up 2006... and him going 0-6 in his last 10 starts. Go back (link) and look at those games. He pitched GREAT. The offense should have had all of their pictures on milk cartons. THAT is why he went 0-6.... not because he pitched poorly. (10 of his last 12 starts he pitched extremely well... not average... not just good.) So if the end of 2006 is part of your choker argument, you need some new evidence. I looked at the log. His ERA went from the low 5's to the high 4's during that time, so to say he pitched great is a "stretch". Once again, I'm not saying he is definitely a choker as if it's gospel, my post a few back is just explaining to you why he has that reputation among most people, including myself.
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) Of course it matters. Are you trying to say that facts don't matter... it's only opinions that matter? If someone says he's a big game choker then they should be able to point out the big games... unless they're just venting which I can understand because last night was ugly. So... what are the BIG games? For example: on August 17th, when we were tied with the Twins and playing the A's on the west coast... and Javy went 8 innings, and gave up only 4 hits to help the Sox take the series and stay in first place. Was that a "big game"? Or when we had just lost two games in Cleveland the beginning of this month... and we were in danger of being swept... and Javy went 6 innings, gave up 2 runs on 5 hits, struck out 5 and walked 1. We started that day with 1/2 game lead over the Twins. Was that a "big game" or not? Read my last post in this thread before this. I am not saying it's proof that Javy is a choker, but it's the reason that a lot of people like me think he is.

If we win tonight, we win the division. If we lose tonight, Minnesota wins the division. I understand that's an opinion and not a vent, but I believe it to be absolutely true. We HAVE to win tonight, end of story.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 11:19 AM) Palin is a straight talker. (I know, that's a bad pun from the "Straight Talk Express"... but read me out). What I mean by that is, and I think Rex said it best in another thread, she gives a POLI 101 answer to a POLI 401 question, she talks plainly and simple. She doesn't give the "political bulls*** answer" that you'd hear from any of the other three. What does that mean? Most Americans, it's nothing - as a matter of fact, might even be somewhat refreshing. Our darling media? It means they will lamblast every freaking answer she has on anything until the cows come home, because she's not "sophisticated". Is that good or bad? It's both, frankly. I am not going to disagree with any of this, but they have to let her talk more. A lot more. It's going to aid in getting them beat if they don't. The only other point I'll make it some people could call giving the POLI 101 answer straight talk, others would call it lacking knowledge. I am not sure if she even knows how to give the POLI 401 answer, and that's a concern. -
QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) Please help me understand something about the "big game" theory. This is the link to his 2008 season game log with all of his pitching performances. Which ones other than last night are the "big" games? He had one start and 2 relief appearances for the Yankees in the 2004 playoffs, and was crushed in all 3 games (including giving up a grand slam to Johnny Damon, the signature moment of the Red Sox comeback). He had a pre all star game ERA of 3.56 that year and a post all star game ERA of 6.92. He also went 0-6 in his last 10 starts for the White Sox in 2006, and we were in that race obviously. Combine that with his two most recent starts this season, and you get the "choker" label.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
Palin may be strong, tough, and confident, but I don't think the McCain camp's treatment of her has been sexist. I think it's moreso been an admittance of her lack of knowledge on key issues. They aren't afraid to let her talk because she is a woman, they are afraid to let her talk because she doesn't know what to say. Am I wrong? It's certainly possible, but to me, that's the only way to read into why she has been so protected. I think the biggest reason the McCain/Palin ticket has seen it's poll numbers decrease recently other than the economy is the fact they won't let Palin talk. Having somebody with experience questions not talk is bad strategy, because voters can only assume she doesn't get it. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 10:43 AM) I'll call BS on this. Tons of teams would take Javy Vazquez, even if he gave up 20 runs in his last outing (assuming he's healthy). Not only would the Sox be able to move him without eating his contract, they'd be able to get prospects in return. Sure he wet the bed but he still has plenty of value on the open market if the Sox did in fact want to trade him. You are almost for sure right, but as a guy who sees all of Javy's starts, I wouldn't trade s*** for him. Then again, people are desperate for pitching. If you and fathom are right (and you probably are) about Javy's value, we almost have to trade him this offseason IMO. Other than eat innings, he hasn't done much for us other than be mediocre and choke in big games.

KW, win or lose, we need to rebuild for 2010/11
whitesoxfan101 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't think rebuild is the right word. With foundation pieces for the long haul like Ramirez, Quentin, Floyd, and Danks, you have a great start. Buehrle and Paulie have their ups and downs, but you expect a few more good years out of both of them, and I still like Bobby Jenks (although if somebody wants to overpay for him in a trade, go ahead). Major retooling is needed though. The offense in large part has to be completely rebuild, as much of it is very old and very slow. The bullpen needs more help (although that can be said for every team), and although we have three very good starting pitchers right now, we lack system depth. What are we going to do with Javy? Will Aaron Poreda be a starter or relief pitcher? A lot needs to be done, but Kenny knows that is the case regardless of if we win the division or don't. -
Another great high round Jerry Angelo draft pick, specifically another great offensive high round Jerry Angelo draft pick.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) If the Sox fail to make the playoffs with Javy having a bad start at home vs the Indians, there is really no way they can bring him back next season. What team is going to take on 2 years and 23 million dollars for an aging choker with a .500 lifetime record? We'd have to eat about half of the money to get rid of him IMO.

Your first place Chicago White Sox!
whitesoxfan101 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Regardless of who wins this division, the comment I put on my signature a couple months ago is going to prove to be accurate. I am pretty sure the winner of tonight's game, no matter who it is, will win this division. -
Javy has been a choker his entire career, and he showed why last night. He's pitched in plently of big games, and never got it done. Guys that have his stuff and only .500 records tend to be mentally weak though, so it's no surprise. It's a shame he is signed through 2010.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) rally crede and Joe Crede are 2 different things iirc. Need to ask Jason on that one. Boone Logan hasn't got anybody out since Jason put the "rally McBoone" on his sig....so I'm not trusting him in this regard.
-
Even Rally Crede doesn't work this year. He's a player that will never play for us again, basically was kicked out of the locker room, and has a back "injury".

Official 2008-2009 College Football Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to Heads22's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I am not a fan of booing college kids unless there is a clear lack of effort involved. Pro players make millions and booing is part of the game, but I just am not a fan of booing 18 to 22 year olds in college because they aren't playing well. The fans have the right to boo, they buy the tickets, but I just don't agree with booing kids on your own college team at all. -

I hope MLB doesn't remove the video because it's really good. Anyways, I'm ready to go after watching it. -
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) No, his point is if he's an ARAB-American, then why would he get all the AFRICAN-American vote? He's not "black" - (please forgive my tone, I'm just trying to articulate what he was trying to point out, IMO). It's not about hate, as much as some want it to be. I thought his Dad was from Kenya? That's much more African than it is Arabian, isn't it? The point by Limbaugh is just plain ridiculous and makes no sense.

Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to whitesoxbrian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I heard on the score that the Hawks have established a franchise record by selling something like 13,500 season tickets and tonight's preseason home opener is going to be very close to a sellout, if not an actual sellout? That is AMAZING, I guess it didn't hit me how many tickets have been sold until I heard that this morning, but that is just fantastic. Hopefully, the quality of the team and the amount of tickets sold team up to make Chicago a scary place to come and play hockey again. EDIT- Link: http://blackhawks.nhl.com/team/app/?servic...rticleid=383020 Fantastic. -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) Are you suggesting that votes are only relevant when the race is close? That if your candidate is winning, or losing, by a wide margin, the votes are irrelevant? Not so much that, the term irrelevant was wrong for me to use. But even in a blowout race in a local or state election, it feels like your vote at least counts. In the electoral college, it's moreso a case in a blowout state like Illinois where the 20 someting electoral college votes all go to the winning candidate in the state, and that's the end. It feels like your vote didn't count.
-
The only thing that scares me more than the current economy is this bailout that will supposedly fix it.
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) As long as we are the United States not the United Individuals, the electoral college is significant. After all, it is these United States coming together to elect a President to rule over themselves, why should the states cede this responsibility partly to an individual in another state? I understand that, but for people who live in states that are clearly out of play and have been for a while now like Illinois, our vote is irrelevant for president. The system is great if you live in Ohio or Virginia, but here, not so much.

Well Javy, starting tonight, your Sox legacy will be defined by what you do in every start for the rest of the season, regardless of how many there are. Please, make the legacy a good one.
