QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 06:57 AM) Apparently Wood got mad at Jolbert Cabrera for celebrating too much after a game winning hit. Wood must not pay attention to his teammates when they play at home too much, they celebrate pretty much everything that happens. If that pussy doesn't want people celebrating, he shouldn't blow a two run lead in the 9th inning to the REDS. I understand that was a key error, but he still gave up 3 hits and 2 walks to them, obviously not good.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 01:24 AM) I love the media all over Favre's schlong...the Jets narrowly escape defeat of a terrible but rising Miami team while the Bills thrash the living s*** out of the favorite in the NFC West. But no, if any team is going to get a boost from Brady's injury, it's the Jets...riiiiiiight. FWIW, I still don't see any way that the Pats lose the division, other than a couple more injuries. They are still way, way too talented and as well coached as any team in the NFL. Ummm, no. You might be right that the Bills are better than the Jets (it wouldn't surprise me, the Bills have been slowly but surely improving the last few years), but the Patriots without Brady are just another team. They do have talent yes, but they don't have a quarterback, and you can't win games that way unless you have a DOMINANT defense, and the Patriots don't. -
Stuff like today happens. Get tomorrow's game and we have a clean 3 game lead for the first time in God knows how long.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) Obama now says that he once considered joining the military. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13217.html Only problem, there was no selective service in 1979. Ford stopped it in 1975, and carter reinstated it in 1980, AFTER Obama graduated. Did he lie to try and make himself seem not so anti-military, or just misremember? I love the term misremember. Such a nice way to say "lie", because that is what it really is. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/20...republicans2008 The UK Guardian chides the American MSM. A good read. I really believe that if the chosen one loses, the MSM will be a significant reason why. Americans don't like being told what to do, and that is what the MSM has been doing to them in this election.

I would expect a few posts from Heads (among others, we have a few other Colts fans around here I believe) in the "I am drunk" thread after their performance tonight. It has to be pointed out that Manning was obviously a bit rusty and their offense line obviously missed Saturday. However, that was just a FANTASTIC performance by the Bears. It's not like they went in there and snuck out with a close victory attained in large part due to catching the Colts at a good time, they just pretty much had total control of the game throughout, especially on the lines of scrimmage. There isn't any one thing you can really say negative, other than I hope tonight wasn't a mirage. I was COMPLETELY wrong on the 2008 White Sox in a good way, I would love for a similar senario to play out with the 2008 Bears. -
What the hell is going on in Chicago?!?!?!?

With gun laws, like everything else, the truth lies in the middle. Having massive anti-gun laws leads to a ton of shootings, as does having no gun laws. That's how I look at the situation, but of course, there is a distinct possibility I am wrong. -

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 6, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) Well, when we last entered the Twinkie Dome, we had a 2.5 game lead. Almost a month later, we have a 2.5 game lead. I remember saying at the time if we left MN with a 2.5 game lead, I'd be happy because there's that much less left on the season. I gotta tell you - I want at LEAST a three game lead going into that series. And right now we have it... in the loss column. When we play that game in hand, I hope we get a W. I believe we haven't attained a 2.5 game lead/3 game loss column lead since we entered the Twinkie Dome either. Until tonight. I am just assuming we will lose 2 out of 3 up there. That would mean we tie them in the series series (I think we're up 8-7 right now) and I could live with that, but we need to have a small cushion and hopefully we can get it. -
I thought this thread was actually going to be about the White Sox, since we have a 2.5 game lead/3 game loss column lead for the first time in a LONG, LONG time. But that's cool it's referring to the board too, I can't go too long without this place, as is the case with most people here.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 6, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) Scary... because this one could really be what Gustav was supposed to be, and NO ONE is going to leave... they just left and they won't leave again. It'll probably lose some strength over Cuba, but at the same time, it could get some back in the Gulf. If this thing is a major storm (cat 3 is the most likely senario), keeps heading for New Orleans, and people don't leave because of the false alarm last week.....it could be Katrina part 2. Obviously, let's hope that perfect storm senario doesn't play out.
-
I hope the current track is off, because New Orleans is in some deep trouble if it isn't. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) So they evacuated N.O. and no major damage or flooding ocurred. How difficult do you think it will be to get people to leave next time there is a Hurr threat in that area? We might find out VERY soon.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 6, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) Florida 26 - Miami 3 Hey a push beats a loss (although it'd have been a win if Urban hadn't tried to run up the score at the end). But at the same time, that's why I don't bet on games. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) Ok, I'm going to stir the pot here. As I watched the RNC I saw like 8 people who weren't white. I noticed the people waving the cowboy hats more than anything else. There weren't a whole lot of minority speakers, not because the GOP didn't let them or anything, but because there really weren't that many to choose from. That's just how it is, really. The democratic party has a LOT more african-american voters because they've somehow convinced a lot of voters from that group that even despite how the republican party was started in the first place, the GOP hates black people. Besides african-americans, both parties have a pretty equal amount of diversity, it's just that one group that the democrats have put into a trance to almost exclusively vote for them. I mean there are certainly african-americans that vote for the democrats due to the issue, but I think some just do it because "everybody else does". That's just the view of the white guy though. -

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 04:28 PM) what part moved you? The POW, the POW, or the POW? The "we were elected to change Washington and we let Washington change us" line blew me away. For somebody to admit that at all about his own party was just refreshing to see in my opinion. Even if it's obvious to us, nobody ever admits something like that. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 05:26 PM) yea right Yeah, the poster you quoted was completely over the top in his hate for Palin. The words "terrified" and "afraid" came to mind reading his posts. I found it quite funny, even the biggest Obama supporters here (athomeboy and so on) have been tough, but fair towards Palin in my opinion. He went crazy on her, and hasn't been back since her speech. Not a coincidence.

Miami is getting 23 at Florida on Saturday night. I'm not much the betting man, but I would strongly suggest that if you are, take the Hurricanes at the window and enjoy the free money. Too much pride, especially in an in-state game like, for Miami to lose by more than three touchdowns. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) I never said we're f***ed I will say this...the more time passes, the more I appreciate 2005. Well I'll say it: We're f***ed. You can't lose your best everyday player in early September during a tight race and expect good things. I hope Griff, Kong, and Swish step up and prove me wrong, but just feels like a disaster.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) Can I ask your age? Early 20's, so I admittedly haven't seen a whole lot. If there were politicians far more polarizing than this though in the past, it must have been a different game then. Although I'm sure it was.

Quentin will be fine long term, I'm not worried about that. Wrist injuries are a lot worse on basketball players than baseball players generally. But in the meantime, as one of my best friends said today, "we're f***ed".
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) Fixed Well that's definitely true, but it seems especially the case for Obama. The people who love him REALLY love him and the people who hate him REALLY hate him, in both cases with more fervor than I've ever seen for any other candidate before.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) I've actually seen Obama compared to Hitler - obviously on the Internet where people are stupid - because of his speaking abilities. How horribly inaccurate. Give the man some respect and give him the proper comparison - Joseph Stalin I've seen Obama compared to everyone from Jesus Christ to George Washington to Hitler to the antichrist, all on more than a couple of occasions. He's a bit of a polarizing figure to say the least.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) One interesting thing to note, is that Obama has resources in all 50 states. What this means to me is that even in states he loses, he will probably be closer than Kerry was in 04. What I'm getting at, is if Obama loses, I'm thinking it's likely that he still wins popular. And that would really be bad. I'd be surprised if McCain wins the popular vote, regardless of who wins the electoral college and thus the election. With that in mind along with the fact that it wouldn't be a huge surprised if McCain wins the electoral college, we could be in for another ugly debate over the popular vote vs. the electoral college. I personally find the electoral college stupid, regardless of who it benefits. But it helped the GOP in 2000 and very well might do it again this year.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Well, that statement wouldn't be inaccurate. Technically neither was Big Sqwert's. Of course. But they are both ridiculous.
