  1. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) Who would you rather be president Biden or Palin........ Now that scares the living s*** out of me if McCain wins. McCain could be the model of health and he is still an age induced incident away from turning the keys to the country over to somebody that makes Obama look like a Washington lifer. I think this is a tremendouly horific move and based superfically on the fact that women will vote for anyone. This could get ugly. I don't think it's a tremendously horrific move, but it's certainly risky and has a superficial side to it. Hey she was a journalism major in college. REPRESENT!!
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:00 AM) I heard she was a former beauty pageant contestant or something. Not bad. Her wiki page says she was runner up in the 1984 Miss Alaska beauty contest.
  3. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:52 AM) Biden wasn't a political move? The candidate of change picks an old school senator as his VP. McCain, an old school senator, picks a young fresh face as his VP. The experience is on the top of the GOP ticket. Inexperience is on the top of Democratic ticket. Yeah it's strange. Both tickets have the old, experienced white guy and the young, non white male, fresh candidate. I'm just glad it's not Romney. I would have seriously considered Obama had it been him.
  4. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 07:52 AM) ISU did exactly what it needed to last night, throttling someone for the first time since the 42-14 of aTm in '05. ISU 44, SDSU 17, and it wasn't that close. ISU forces 6 turnovers, with over 200 interception yards. God, that felt good. Yeah Southern Ca......*COUGH* Iowa State looked good last night.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:41 AM) Totally a political move. Palin: 2 years as Governor, before... mayor of of a town of 7500. THAT'S inexperience at its best. There is no question that the inexperience rally against Obama isn't the way the McCain camp wants to go with this pick, I will say that. Can't use that argument with this VEEP choice. It's a fascinating choice though, that's for sure.
  6. I don't know much about her, but damn she is young, quite a contrast to McCain. She is the same age as my Mom. (Actually that is true, and I hope that makes at least one person in this thread feel old).
  7. If you are married, I wouldn't suggest going without taking extreme precautions before and during the trip. She looks like a lot of fun, and like somebody who could get a married man into a lot of trouble. Nah just kidding. You can be just friends with anybody as long as both sides know the deal, and I'm sure that's the case here. Have a good time!
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 08:51 AM) I would love to see ANY specifics from McCain on anything. The "Don't vote for Obama" routine is getting a bit old. How about a reason to "vote for me"? I would love to see specifics from either of them. McCain says "don't vote for Obama", Obama gives this elaborate list of things he'll do that sounds completely unrealistic. Obama's route is a better way to go IMO, but until I hear or see how he plans on doing all these things, I'm going to treat him like every other politician and assume he's full of s***. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 01:36 AM) Do you know what attracts me to Obama and why I like him so much? It wasn't his line antagonizing McCain that he was ready to debate, it was his line about how politics don't make the man. Politics have gotten way too personal the past 8 years, with Rove marginalizing half of this country as unpatriotic. But the truth is I enjoy every poster on this board, alpha dog, mr genius, kap, so what if we disagree. There has been way too much emphasis that if you are x then you are unpatriotic or you are a fascist when that is not how we live. I'm hopeful in x years we can move to a much more central ground of understanding. I can go with this. One thing I will say is, although there are sides of Obama that scare me a bit, I won't lose any sleep if he gets elected. That is the good thing about this election for me, in 2000 and 2004 I really disliked both candidates. This time, no matter who wins, I think the country is going to be much better off than it is right now.
  9. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 11:47 PM) To paraphrase what Howard Fineman just said on MSNBC: The McCain campaign soiled themselves tonight. They did NOT see some of what Obama said coming. They were caught flat footed. They are planning a soft, low key, "boring" by comparison convention. That isnt good for them. I thought Obama went slightly over the top with his "doom and gloom" portrayal of the nation right now. However, it was better for him to be a bit too hardcore than a bit too soft, and that is why I expect him to get a big bounce from this speech.
  10. The three most dreaded words for a guy who is injured: Dr. James Andrews Beckett might be done for the year.
  11. Good to see Suzuki doesn't just break our hearts. Back to 2 up in the loss column!!
  12. QUOTE (Nokona @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 11:28 PM) Remember when the moon was in the sky and flying there in 10 years was laughable? Then a man told us we could. That's a good point, but I'm still not buying it. I would LOVE to be wrong though on this issue.
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 05:55 PM) HOLY CRAP: "And for the sake of our economy, our security, and the future of our planet, I will set a clear goal as President: in ten years, we will finally end our dependence on oil from the Middle East." I would LOVE to see the specifics of that plan. I call bull s*** on that one, I don't even think it's possible to do that in 10 years. That line and his total ignoring of the enviornment both struck me as odd. However, his attempts reach out in his comments about guns, abortion, and saying that "the government has responsiblity, but people have responsiblity too" were smart in my opinion. Besides that, most of the speech was not a surprise. Democratic hotplate stuff that I've heard a lot of times, only it sounded great because of Obama's ability to read and deliver off the prompter. That speech will get him a big bump I think though, because people will buy it.
  14. http://illinois.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=843421 There you go. That link btw is to the only recruiting rankings that matter, the "enrolled team recruiting rankings". That is, the top recruiting classes now that we know who qualifed for school. Illinois suffered a major loss in Patrick Nixon not qualifying, but it was their only loss and thus the moved from 23rd on signing day up to 17th now. Notre Dame and Alabama swapped the 1 and 2 spots. (I posted this in the college football thread due to a discussion me and rockraines were having, but it belongs in here too obviously).
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 05:13 PM) This is NO surprise, and he won't be the last Gopher to be an academic casualty. The whole reason Brewster had such a good class last year was he took a ton of academic risks on several of the top prospects he got. They have Weber at QB though and he is pretty good. http://illinois.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=843421 There you go. Also, do yourself a favor and read the Sammie Stroughter story: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writ...hter/index.html He had 12 catches for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Oregon State opener tonight, a close loss at Stanford. But after reading that story, he's a guy I will certainly be rooting for.
  16. It's interesting that he threatened to quit several times apparently, but the Sun-Times always backed down and gave him what he wanted. If the new information on why he quit is true (and it sounds like it is), he was probably shocked they accepted his resignation and is upset/unsure what to do next. That's solid.
  17. I was reading today that about 10 percent of the people in South Africa are white. So, doesn't that mean technically that if somebody in that grouping were to immigrate to the United States, they'd be "African-American" even with their skin complexion? Seems confusing to me.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 12:32 PM) Don't worry. Thanks to climate change, I somehow doubt that Katrina will be your last chance to do that if that's what you want to do. With or without climate change as a point of reference, New Orleans had been very hurricane fortunate in the years before Katrina. So even people who think that climate change either doesn't affect hurricanes or is a myth altogether should realize that New Orleans is due for a couple more hurricanes of significance in the near future. And of course if you believe climate change is not only really (not a stretch), but affects hurricanes (much more debatable), it could be more than a couple.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 11:50 PM) Gray is SO damn good. Yeah, and there is a reason he ended up at Minnesota. Nobody else would take the academic risk and Minnesota got burned being the school willing to do so. He should have went to Hargrave or something this year.
  20. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) This whole move by the Democrats is very troubling. We are seeing a heavy censoring, psychotic (our political leader is sent from god to lead) creepiness from the Dems. Fortunately I don't think it will work at all. I actually see them losing this election because of this type of thing. This election is nearly impossible to lose because of the massive disdain currently for the Republicans; but the dailykos types running the Obama campaign are going to wreck him. "Creepy" is the PERFECT word for Obama. The way the democrats are proclaming him as the G.O.A.T. is creepy, the demeanor of his supporters, especially towards non-Obama believers is creepy, the way the majority of the media treats him is creepy. I think all of this "creepy" will lose Obama the election too. The American people don't like being told what to do, and I think a lot of them (especially undecided voters) are becoming tired of the hype.
  21. The Obama campaign has made it pretty clear that they are TERRIFIED of William Ayers. I mean, they have reason to be very afraid of him, but to see them going to the level of trying to stifle free speech is fascinating.
  22. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 07:26 AM) Here's the "uncompassionate" person who comes along and says, you built a f***ing city 30 feet below sea level and then wonder why it floods when a hurricane comes? New Orleans shouldn't even BE THERE anymore, but whatever. Well this point certainly holds validity to it, but is it really practical to just make everybody leave after New Orleans grew into a major city hundreds of years ago and has maintained it's status? I would NEVER live anywhere near there after seeing the affect Katrina had on the city, in large part because of it's geography, but that's just me. I'm not sure what the French Mississppi Company was thinking when they founded the place though, maybe water and sea level were foreign terms to those folks, although it obviously wasn't as bad in the 1700's as it is now with the literally sinking land they have there.
  23. http://news.yahoo.com/s/denverpost/10319911 At least the dems are intelligent enough to realize tonight could backfire. It seems like they understand Obama's flaws better than he does.
  24. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 10:43 AM) I believe it is important to realize how much effort Brooks and Co. make to attract those same idiots to a game on the south side. Get 3,000 of them to every home game and viola' Oh he for sure tries to, and a prime example of this at work is the occasional half-price Monday game. On those nights, the stadium is full, has a lot of Cubs fans, and often times there are a lot of fights. I try and avoid the half-price Monday games because I know the stadium will have a lot of Cub fans there and the atmosphere sucks. Simply due to the financial allure, I often end up at one of these games per season, but it's really a sad sight in the stadium at these games.
  25. I have no idea who this mother f***er is, but welcome back! You must have been banned for a while because I don't remember you and I've posted here for a while. Hello sir!
