QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) I agree, one of the worst calls ever. This 'win' doesn't make me feel good, we got swept. It was a very bush league play by A.J., but this is ridiculous. First off, if that is called correctly, it's man on 1st 2 outs in a tied 10th inning for Jim Thome. To say we got "swept" when that would have been the situation is ridiculous. We might have got swept, just as Thome might have hit a home run for all we know. Second off, to not feel good about that win is equally ridiculous. We had a win stolen from us on opening day by the umpires, and yesterday if anything evened out a wrong from March 31st.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) Do you think maybe those people have jobs to go to after class? I wouldn't bet on it since it's an 8 AM class. They are probably some goofy newbies at the school with no idea what they are doing. I encourage Heads to continue with random, bizarre threads though, especially when making fun of people. Good stuff. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 09:14 AM) Goddamn right I'm wearing shades and my Hollister s***. Pickin up b****es ain't never been so easy. People who wear "Hollister s***" suck, terrible clothing. It is true that pickin up b****es ain't never been so easy though, it's a great time to be an American. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 09:17 AM) I'd wear basketball shorts if they had pockets, I have too much crap to carry around. I'm absolutely paranoid if my keys, phone and wallet aren't on me. Ditto. Hate the damn basketball shorts, it's like they think people will be happy just wearing them to the gym. Well no, I'd like to wear them to class sometimes too, but I can't because I have nowhere to put my f***ing s***. People need their phone, keys, and wallet at all times. Period.

How would you negotiate with CQ?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 10:10 AM) I wouldn't. With all of the health issues, I wait until at least after next year. You are going to lose an awful lot of extra money by doing that if he stays healthy from now through 2009. -
QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 06:25 PM) I just want to say...once again, the White Sox win at the Cell late in the game. Nice to have the umps help steal the division lead away the Twins bullpen didnt help either. So half game to the umps, and half game to fatboy Reyere and Crainwreck Well we were beat by the umpires on opening day, so this game today realistically evened things out. Nothing is more frusterating than losing a lead and eventually the game in the 8th inning when you have a great closer though, we just had that happen to us yesterday as I'm sure you know.

Colorado beats Cincinnati 4-3 in 12 innings. This despite having 34 individual baserunners stranded and 18 LOB as a team (not sure I've seen numbers like those before). The Rockies had zero RBI's in the game, only to see their first come on a home run by Omar Quintanilla, who had 1 home run in 426 career at bats coming into today. Baseball is a great game.

Francisco Rodriguez chasing Bobby Thigpen's record

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) No one can top Gagne's 03 season, imo. 55 Sv's, 1.20 ERA, 37 H (IN 82.1 INNINGS), and 120K's. It doesn't get more dominant than that. I'll take Eck in 1990. Yeah Gagne's numbers might be better, but Eck didn't have the chemical enhancers that Gagne clearly had during his brief dominant period. As for Thigpen, I hope he enjoyed having this record because it's going to be gone very soon obviously. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) 2 down and I hope Francisco Rodriguez's arm literally falls off. The interesting thing is I read somewhere that K-Rod is actually getting LESS work this season than he has been in the past, despite the incredible frequency rate at which he is saving games. Span called out on what should have been ball 4. But we'll take it, save #50 for K-Rod and more importantly, welcome back to first place boys.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 04:58 PM) since when did Grant Balfour become disgustingly good? The dude has bounced around the majors for quite a few years now and he's just been an absolute monster this year. He's always had pretty good stuff, but I didn't think it was ever this good, and those numbers remind me of LaTroy Hawkins. Him and Geovany Soto have the same "doctor". Let's put it that way.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 04:55 PM) More like a lack of uppers in the coffee pot on the road. Exactly right. Nobody talks about it, but the amphetamine/"greenie" ban is probably the main reason home teams are winning so often these days.
-
Two triples in one inning against the speedy Twins outfield? Wow, go figure. Now finish it off for God's sake K-Rod.
-
It really shouldn't have been that difficult today but for poor defense, and we should have won yesterday, but it was nice to see Paulie, Jenks, and Lexi come up big to get us a win. Let's get first place back tomorrow by winning two, regardless of what the Twins do.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) If the Sox tie with the Twins at the end of the year, or lose by 1 game, am I going to be the only one who thinks about Opening Day and the awful job by the umpires? Don't think about it now my man. After the "interference" call in the 10th inning today from Doug Edings, that's about as close as we're going to get to evening the score from opening day. We'll take it though.
-
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) This dude on XM Radio is ripping the White Sox. Saying they stole the game on a hideous job by the umpires. He's right. Not our fault we got the call though, we lost a game on opening day due to a hideous call. Things happen. This is as close as we're going to get in terms of an even out call for opening day.
-
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) If Jim Thome was so unclutch, why wouldn't Tampa pitch to him in that situation? He's a prime DP candidate. Because Jim crushes the ball unless he's facing a lefty or a closer, and Tampa had neither of those to use. He'd have won the game too. Numbers are deceptive.
-
Hell yeah Lexi!! Man we needed that.
-
A.J. has pretty much created this entire rally himself. The single, the great baserunning play, and the great rundown flop.
-
Let's get it Lexi!!
-
Somebody should do a background check on Doug Edings loyalties. He should not be allowed to umpire our games, lol.
-
What the hell?? Nice job right there by A.J., we'll take it. Nice to see somebody else make the mistake. Gotta love Doug Edings and A.J. Pierzynski when they encounter each other.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) I think anyone who thinks the Cubs are NOT the best team in baseball right now are just blinded or don't want to admit it. They aren't. They are the best team in the NL by far and will have to really do something strange to not make the World Series, but they are not as good as the top AL teams. This argument will be settled in October though, so whatever. Nice baserunning by A.J. right there, HORRIBLE play by Upton.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) With my never-ending Cubs obsession, I was thinking about who would match up best with them in the WS. Honestly, I think the White Sox would now that Manny is off the Red Sox and Beckett is hurt. The Cubs would have trouble with any top AL team. People are going to be amazed at how much better the AL is come this years World Series, regardless of if the Cubs or somebody else goes. I'd give the NL about a 10 percent chance (and that's being nice) at winning more than one game.
-
Great job Bobby, time to win it here because we've got pitching problems if this goes to the 11th in more ways than one.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) TB is easily the best team in the AL. I don't think easily. Minnesota is putting themselves into great position to make a playoff run if they get in. Part of the reason I am so angered by this White Sox team is really that I think we could make a run to the World Series if we get into the playoffs. As good as the AL is, there is no dominant team.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Anaheim is overrated with the bats. Yep, every year people say how wonderful they are and every year they lose in October due to lack of offense. Having Texiera helps, but they'll still lose a few 3-2 games and be knocked out of the AL playoffs in October, same thing every year except 2002.
-
Ah well, KEEP JENKS IN. Hopefully he throws a scoreless 10th and the middle of the order can win it in the bottom half.
