  1. The special teams had two 75 yard kick returns and a blocked field goal, but also lost a fumble on a kick return and should have had a safety called on them on Hester's return. The offense put up 20 points and about 200 yards, but the defense gave up 20 points and about 250 yards. Very strange half, no idea what to make of it in the one preseason game where you are supposed to be able to make something of it.
  2. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) I think its a little tough to judge Smith on his career in SF since they are awful... then again the Bears wouldn't be much better. Smith is a horrible quarterback. Most people with any semblance of a brain understood that was a horrible #1 pick the moment it was made, he should not have even gone in the 1st round. It goes right up there with Michael Olowokandi, Tim Couch, and LaRue Martin for all time bad #1 overall picks in sports. As for the Bears "healthy and improved" defense, they've been pathetic tonight. With a little over 11 minutes left in the second quarter, San Francisco has scored 20 points on 4 drives (score on every possesion) while gaining 204 yards from scrimmage (9-11 for 133 passing, 12 carries for 71 yards at 5.9 a carry). Against the freaking 49ers. I knew the offense was bad, but in the so called most important game of the preseason, the defense looks awful too. The Bears offense does have 17 points and Orton has two touchdown passes to Rashied Davis, but the two 75 yard kick returns by Danieal Manning are obviously a huge factor. The offensive line and Orton both look a lot better this week obviously, but again I am moreso worried about the Bears defense than I am pleased with the Bears offense because of who tonight's opponent is. The most recent drive was very good though.
  3. The Bears defense is being absolutely TORN TO SHREDS by one of the worst quarterbacks, offenses, and teams in the NFL. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 07:03 PM) So Quinn is starting on Saturday for the Browns. Is that trouble for Anderson? I heard they think Anderson suffered a concusion on Monday night. Can't be too cautious with those, especially when the games don't count. Not sure why they'd put Wolfe back there, he was a horrible kick returner even when he tried it at NIU. Bad return and he fumbles it away.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) Honestly the people campaigning for Obama have done more to convince me to vote for John McCain than John McCain ever could have. Watching his backslide away from what made him a great candidate in the first place has been depressing. If it hadn't have been for the Obama-trons, I would have seriously looked at the Libertarian candidate. More and more these people have convinced me to look further into the man, the myth, the legend, and the more I see, the more I see the man behind the curtian. He's not going to be a better President, he is just a better actor. Seeing the blatant two-faces of the Obama campaign, while getting it shoved down my throat has been simply nauseating. Somedays I swear that AHB is actually working for John McCain, and is just trying to piss people off so that they won't vote for Obama. Go ahead and give me all of the preachy "if that's why you vote" crap you like, I have had it with the Obama campaign. Hell I am ready to open a McCain campaign office in my house just to counter this exact type of BS, and do anything I can to make sure that Barack Obama does not win this election. I think there is a distinct chance Obama loses in November because of people like you, because there are so many people who agree with you on this election right now, and I don't think Obama or his people realize it. They still think that people buy he is the "candidate for change" and "a different kind of politician", when (fortunately) it turns out people aren't stupid enough to but that. People can vote for Obama if they want to, but if they think he's really any different they are simply lying to themselves because he's not. At all.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) Another reason I hate Cub fans.... Today at work, a guy I know who is a Cubs fans and he knows I am a Sox fan, comes up to me and says "Imagine how big of a star Carlos Quentin would be if he played for the Cubs." And he waited for me to respond like this would be an intelligent baseball conversation. So I replied sarcastically, "Yeah, if he played for the Cubs, he may have made the All Star team, oh wait. If he was with the Cubs, he'd be the leader for the MVP, oh wait." The dude did get me and said that if he was on the Cubs, he would of been voted in the All Star game by the fans, which may have been possible. I just hate when a Cub fan talks down to me like that. I'd have just responded to him with "imagine what it would be like if your team had won a world series in the last century?" Of course, he would have said "we'll do it this year" and then you just respond to that with "if the goat doesn't get you in the NL playoffs, playing a real team (an AL team) in the world series will". Cub fans are easy to talk to, you either laugh at them, counter with facts, or ignore them. Any option works well.
  6. The United States women beat Brazil 1-0 in extra time to win the gold medal. Considering Brazil beat the United States 4-0 in the women's World Cup semifinals just under a year ago, this could be certainly be considered an upset. The U.S. women's water polo team lost 9-8 to the Dutch in the gold medal match, but the U.S. women's volleyball team crushed Cuba to advance to the gold medal game. Finally, in a development that surprises nobody, U.S.A. vs. Australia will be the gold medal game in women's basketball. Lots of track and field on NBC tonight, but I am going to be nice and not post the spoilers.
  7. Cubs fact: If they changed their nickname to the "Blue Sox", they'd be the 3rd best team in baseball with "Sox" in their nickname. I dare somebody to convince me otherwise (I'm sure you can come up with compelling evidence, but not enough to convince me). You could easily argue there are 5 teams in the AL better than them. The problem is, they play in the laughable NL and are thus the favorites to win the pennant unless the Brewers stop underachieving.
  8. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 11:38 PM) Anyone see on the post-match interview May mouth "Call me later," to someone in the stands. Who wants odds on it being Jason Kidd? Haha, that whole story is slightly sketchy. Kidd is divorced, May idolized him. Just sayin'. Matt Treanor is back at home, waiting with a bat for Jason Kidd's first trip to play the Heat this season. Either that, or Matty is cheating on her back home and Misty is following suit and neither cares.
  9. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) The polarization of everything. never seems to be a middle gorund anymore, in poitics, fandom, whatever. As for what to do, U have no idea. Agreed 100 percent.
  10. There is no chance there will ever be a draft again. None. Neither party is that stupid, and any comment quoted by anybody by anyone is something I won't even listen to because the thought there will be a draft again is just scare tactics that both parties have used for a while now.
  11. I don't know how much the poll matters. The relevant point, and one that I don't think anybody would argue, is that McCain has made up a lot of ground on Obama recently, and Obama has some work to do to slow down that momentum. A good convention is a good place to start.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) It was at first, weirder seeing lunatic American Drivers screech across 4 lanes on a freeway not hitting anyone and not indicating (which doesn't seem to be a big thing down here). And the last time I was in Chicago I had to get a taxi from O'Hare at midnight as the stupid train system was working and I couldn't find the right bus. And it took 20 mins just to get out of that area as the traffic was so bad. Ugh. Yeah, traffic near O'Hare and in the loop is rough at all times, even midnight. As for turn signals (indicators apparently is what they are called in Australia?), they are pretty much optional over here. People really don't know how to drive, they all drive like crazy people. Especially in Florida.
  13. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) I think we were only down by 12 or so, and then Bogut hurt his ankle again, and we were done. I would have liked to see how we would have done if he was on the court in the 2nd half. I'm not sure how much it would have mattered, team U.S.A. has shown throughout the olympics that they start slow, but eventually blow away the good teams they play like Australia. As for the U.S.A. whining, it bothers me too. The refs/officials are always going to favor the home team, that is just how it is, and you have to overcome it. The tiebreaker system was stupid, but that's the IOC's fault and not the judges. The one problem was that girl from China landing on her knees and still getting a bronze medal, that's horrible. But besides that, sports aren't fair sometimes and you just have to live with it.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) What they don't have roads in Iowa now? Motorway / Freeway whatever it's called. Yeah, I've never heard motorway before, must be Australian lingo. They are the freeway/highway/interstate over here. If you don't like traffic though, make sure you don't visit Chicago on a Friday night, or Atlanta/Los Angeles in general. I would imagine it's strange for you just seeing cars on the right side of the road though.
  15. The United States male volleyball team erases 1 to 0 and 2 to 1 game deficits to win 3-2 over Serbia in the tiebreaker and advance to the semifinals. The women's volleyball team won in almost identical fashion over Italy yesterday to advance to the semifinals as well. The women's water polo team is already in the finals, and the men's water polo team plays Serbia (seems like quite a few battles between those two nations in the olympics) in the semifinals. The beach volleyball finals on the men's and women's sides both have U.S. teams in it too. The U.S. softball team is in the finals after an extra inning win last night, and the U.S. baseball team plays Cuba in the semifinals. The men's and women's basketball teams are in the semifinals as well obviously. As for Usain Bolt, wow. Even by his lofty standards, wow.
  16. This is a HUGE game, even beyond the obvious. Get this one, and you send Minnesota onto that miserable 14 game road trip at least one game out of first, plus a sweep of Seattle is both important and now expected after we won the game we weren't supposed to last night.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 10:43 PM) Really? You was wrong. It happens. I still have my doubts about Clayton Richard, however he did a great job last night and clearly the correct decision was made. I am even more shocked at how horrible King Felix was. Maybe it is our year.
  18. With the Bob Saget roast, the funniest guy was the one who said he wouldn't swear because cheap laughs through dirty language is how Bob got so popular. Can't remember who that guy was though, but his best joke was "in honor of George Carlin, here are seven words you'll never hear on television. And the emmy goes to....Bob Saget". Also, I have a big time guilty pleasure: "Paper Planes" by M.I.A. That song is as outstanding as it is weird.
  19. Joe Horn is not needed on the Bears, they already have their past his prime, washed up receiever who used to be good (Marty Booker).
  20. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 02:12 AM) Time to have him and the Jamaican females take another 'wiz quiz'. If I recall correctly, Jamaica has about as few problems with positive drug tests as any nation with great sprinters. Plus, Bolt is just so tall and thin, he just seems like a freak of nature moreso than a cheater. I could be wrong though of course.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 01:50 AM) We will have 3 regulars with OBP's over .375.......Swisher, Thome, and *gasp* Quentin?!?! Stay hot Jim Thome and get hot Nick Swisher!! Hey, this prediction isn't too bad though when you consider the bold part is Carlos Quentin. I'll take it. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) Gavin Floyd will be our 2nd best starting pitcher this year. Orlando Cabrera will disappoint. Nicely done!! This is the most impressive post in this thread because those were the only two predictions you made.
  22. There is really no question that Broadway should be starting. I'm not sure why they were so worried about bullpen depth either, everybody knows Oakland can't hit, it's not like we were going to Texas. And I'm also REALLY not sure why we pitched Richard for an inning Sunday with an 11 run lead with him starting today being the plan. But whatever, with King Felix pitching, I don't think it matters who pitches today between the two of them because we are going to lose anyways.
  23. Dwyane Wade looks FANTASTIC in the olympics, best I've seen him since the 2006 NBA Finals. I made fun of the idea of how he might come back here to his hometown in a couple years when he's a free agent, thinking he'll be broken down and busted up by then. But looking at him in the olympics, combined with now having Derrick Rose here and likely Ben Gordon gone (and Hughes would be gone by that time too), bring him on.
  24. This team could be worse than 5-11. Easily. They have the worst offense in the NFL, and the defense, although talented, is another thing: rich. Do you really think all these defensive players who already have their money are going to play balls out when this team is out of it by Thanksgiving, if not earlier? Neither do I.
  25. Howard might want to visit Florida. I go there quite a bit, have a lot of friends down there, and it's a pretty important state to the democrats if they want the golden child in the white house. By the way, there are a lot of hispanic republicans down there. Hundreds of thousands of them, if not into the million category. Although ignorance is bliss, thus it's no wonder Dean was so amused as he made this comment.
