If you watch the White Sox on a day to day basis or at least most of the time and don't have animosity for OC, then I just can't help you. He's very difficult to watch at times. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) I know I overreact in my dislike for certain players. However, when Balta, Kalapse, Santo, and Tony all agree with me, then I feel like the hatred is justified. I'm totally with you too on this one. Even though that doesn't matter since I don't matter.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) I have to find the link, but many of the clips int he video were lifter from a movie and they did NOT ask permission to use the, The movie maker is suing for copyright violation and requesting they pull the ad. By the way, McCain promised to denounce outside groups who ran negative ads. His response to the ad: well... it's got some good points! McCain should have just completely ignored the ad, and let people decide what they think of the ad and what is the truth. And if you are right about the clips in the video, than that is just stupid work by the people who made it. I was assuming the Obama people were upset over what was in the video, where they'd have no point in court to argue it, so my bad. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) I don't think you're necessarily wrong but I think she did exactly what was necessary for Obama in terms of getting some of those votes back. Oh for sure she did that, that is why I said it was a good speech last night. She also came across much more likable than I'd ever seen her. However, that doesn't change the fact that she still clearly thinks that she can win the presidency one day, and that she thinks Obama can't win without her, and I'd have a hard time arguing with either point right now (although I'm not sure if he can win in general).

This ad isn't a product of the McCain campaign, and in a development surprising to nobody, I haven't heard any media even acknowledge it exists. Now this ad is obviously quite slanted to make Obama look bad, but the general points of the argument (what Ayers did, his quotes, and the fact he is connected to Obama from his Chicago days) is accurate. And I also saw Obama's rebuttal to this (can't find it on youtube, but it's probably there) and it's pretty damn lame, saying Ayers did this stuff when Obama was 8 as if that matters, and some lame s*** like that. This isn't like Willie Horton was to Dukakis, but I think this will end up hurting Obama in November in the era we live in with terrorism a major issue to a lot of people. The funny part is the Obama people have threatened legal action against stations airing the ad, even though I would love to hear what in this ad is illegal. As I said, the ad obviously is exaggeratory in nature, but the general information in it is pretty accurate. -
I think Hillary actually appeared to be supporting Obama last night. However, I also think that she believes Obama can't win without her. I'm not sure if Obama would have won with her either, but I think her general point that Obama isn't going to win is right.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 11:54 PM) Yes, some of them are actually Boy that is really disturbing to think about. I'll just pretend you are wrong, even though you are probably right.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 11:52 PM) I would say there is about a 60-40 chance that in 3 years the Sun-Times isn't in print anymore, instead all online. With as big as Jay is, especially nationally, I'm not sure if he needs the Sun-Times to "support" him. There are also more complicated issues that I don't feel like explaining, but for the most part, what he said. Plus, you have more freedoms writing online and can still make a good living if you are as big a name as he is. He'll also be on around the horn still I assume.

Back to 20 games over .500. Beautiful. -
Hope you guys had a great day.
-
Gaining two games in just over a day's worth of hours is solid. WELL DONE Gavin. That was needed and we can kind of air out the bullpen if we need to tomorrow with the day off Thursday. Let's get another win tomorrow, and hopefully the offense keeps it up.
-
SOLID!! It techincally would count as a sweep for us since the first game was an "April game", so let's HOPE for some double broom action tomorrow.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) That right there is some biting, concise analysis. Indeed, this thread could have been closed after just the original post and the first response. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) I don't see how that's a fact. It's not, and Joe's highlight reel the last two nights has been a highlight reel because he is still lacking range. Joe's range now compared to 2005 isn't even close to comparable, however at least he's making the plays when he gets to the ball at the moment, unlike before he was out with the injury.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) Isn't writing the same via internet or newspaper. You write a column for the newspaper...it's on the internet. You still write...right? I think it's a cop out from Mariotti....something else is up. Not that I care...because I RARELY if ever read his garbage anyway. He just got a 3 year extension in June or July and was one of the Sun-Times biggest moneymakers. There is no doubt he left on his own, and writing for the newspaper and internet are VERY different. Yes the stuff you write in the paper appears on the internet, but they are very different.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) That speech was basically the anti-campaign version of Hillary. I mean seriously like the polar opposite. I would actually vote for her if she was really like that. Yep. She beats Obama if she had given speeches with that kind of tone to them on the campaign trail. No doubt in my mind. She'll run again in 2012 or 2016 depending on who wins in November, and it'll be interesting to see if she learned some things this time around. Sure looked like she did tonight, and I have to admit the dems are having a pretty good convention so far, although whether or not the party actually is united remains to be seen.
-
His logic in leaving (saying the newspaper business is dying and he wants to get out while he still has other opportunities such as online) is actually totally accurate. I'm VERY happy he's gone, however the reaction in this thread is EXACTLY why he lasted so long and made so much money. The Sun-Times has to be crushed Mariotti left, he was a gold mine.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 06:48 PM) Won't happen IMO. The Dems who are currently complaining about it will fully endorse the electoral college if they think they have will have an advantage for a while. Of course. They condemned the electoral college in 2000 as the most evil thing in recent political history, but had that got that extra 100 thousand votes in Ohio in 2004, they'd have won the election in similar fashion and you wouldn't have heard a peep. I personally think the electoral college system is garbage, because as long as I live in Illinois and vote for a republican in the election my vote pretty much does not count, but nobody in politics said a word about it until what happened in 2000. -
LOL @ this statement How about "this is the plan so that the party will appear unified, even if the democrats aren't sure if that is the case". That statement is classic spin. If the dems knew that all the of Clinton people have switched and are completely behind Barack Obama, this "shortened roll call" wouldn't even be considered. By the way, MSNBC should not allow Keith Olbermann to work anything except his show. I understand pretty much everybody in the media has a lefty bias (except Fox News and their righty bias), but he should have a skirt and cheerleader shirt with "Obama" across the chest on it with the way he talks.
-
It's not gutsy. It might be a political move, but I doubt that too because people aren't dumb enough to vote based on team affiliation. I just think it's Obama telling the truth, because what he said is completely accurate.

Burres threw 8 innings of 3 hit shutout ball against us at The Cell in April. Not this time. Great to come home to this.

Wow that looked like a great match to be at on T.V. too. It's a shame Young lost, he played very well and of course since he was born and raised in Chicago I was rooting for him. He could be the "next big thing" if he continues to improve his game, he's only 18 or 19 I believe. U.S. Open tennis at night is the best though, the atmosphere is great even when the stadium is half empty like it appeared to be on T.V, but often times it's jam packed.

Yeah midwest girl, even in places like Iowa and Nebraska and the Dakotas and Minnesota are very underrated, there is quality talent. Except in Wisconsin, the talent is very difficult to find up there and most of the talent you do find is originally from Illinois or some other midwest state.

Official Recruiting Thread II

Rivals updated it's 2010 basketball player rankings, and it's a top 150 now instead of just a top 100. Jereme Richmond moved back into the 5 star category as a top 25 player in the land, Crandall Head stayed there, and Meyers Leonard is a solid 4 star prospect easily within the top 100. The very underrated Lenzelle Smith moved into the top 100 as a 4 star prospect ranked #97 in the nation, so Brian will be happy. I am curious to see where Smith ends up going to college. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) All of her speeches are like that. Almost all of the negative perceptions of her are based on that "proud of my country" gaffe. Most people hadn't really seen a full Michelle Obama speech until last night though, so I think it was very important for her to do well and come across the way she does in most speeches and she certainly hit the proverbial home run.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 08:53 AM) I posted somewhere else this morning that I think that majority of Americans, on a "liberal-conservative" scale, is generally pretty conservative. What I meant by that is: Americans would rather pay less in taxes Americans tend to be religous in some form or fashion (and I don't mean Christianity, per se, although that covers the majority of Americans). Americans don't want big brother government telling them how or what to do Americans don't want "CHANGE" - now in the RSO sort of way, they want change, but most are generally happy with thier life and would rather things stay "status quo" - so by that very nature, they're "conservative". What I'm trying to get at here is when you compare Americans to the rest of the world, they're a "conservative" bunch - not stupid "neo-con" conservative, but "content". That's more my definintion of "conservative". I guess really, my definition of "conservative" is more "libertarian" - meaning, leave me alone and shrink my government. I hope that makes sense. Agreed 100 percent. You described very well my personal beliefs, and I think more everyday people agree with me than anybody realizes. The problem is, neither party really appeals to people like us. The Republicans are too far to the right on a lot of things for people like us, and the Democrats are too far to the left. Now the GOP is CLOSER to our beliefs overall than the Dems, but neither party is really all that close to us based on what we see of them, and it's frusterating.
