  1. QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 11:32 AM) Cintron's a free agent. It's doubtful that he comes back. I meant Swisher, Thome, and Quentin........my mind is not working since Thursday. Glad I saw this though.
  2. I think if you subtract 4 wins from the Cubs and move them 8 miles south, your a lot closer to accurate.
  3. That dunk contest performance by Dwight Howard was obscene. I never thought Vince Carter in 2000 could be touched, but all 4 of Howard's dunks were legit 10's, so it's awfully close.
  4. I use this place pretty much as almost a testing ground for opinions, see what I can get away with saying/thinking and what I can't, which is a nice thing to be able to do somewhere without consequence as a journalism major. The only side of my "internet personality" that is anything like me in real life is White Sox related stuff, as the actually do piss me off that much. However, beyond that, I'm nothing like I am here in real life.
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 12:49 PM) First rule, never discuss Soxtalk Exactly, and the second rule is I don't act on Soxtalk at all like I do in real life. This is a good place to argue stuff and that's it.
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) old school lecture hall. Ours are all theater style with rising seats. Much different then I imagined, thanks for posting. Yeah, you almost get the impression on TV that Cole is like a newer building based on appearance of the exterior, and I'm not sure how old the current version of the hall is, but Cole and a building itself have been there as long as the school has according to everything I have ever been told, and the design of the lecture hall reflects that. Shooter had a clear and flat shot at everybody, which I guess would be easier than shooting uphill like in a theater style room. And I don't think anybody that goes here either hasn't or isn't taking classes at Cole Hall, lots of gen ed stuff in that place and a ton of students in each session.
  7. Being around campus and just seeing and hugging people at the vigil and memorials and stuff was a bit of a positive for me today, I'm glad I decided to stay until tomorrow morning. I am not afraid to go back to class, at all, but the depression and pain of the events is really starting to sink in. I can't wait for the day that NIU is back and stronger than ever. I know it will be soon, but right now, it just sucks basically.
  8. We will have 3 regulars with OBP's over .375.......Swisher, Thome, and *gasp* Quentin?!?!
  9. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) Good to see you are alright man. Can you believe it happened to our school? I hate that NIU now is associated with what this psychopath did. One of the victims worked for the star and they have his info up on their site www.northernstar.info Yeah, I've had some luck in the last few minutes. One FINALLY texted me back, I have been able to pretty much confirm another person is fine (although I'd prefer to actually talk to him, but it's on good word), still 1 person I am quite worried about though. And yeah, I have met the dude that worked at the star a few times in passing, although I didn't know him. Nice guy at least in the brief exchanges we had, what a shame. I thought it couldn't get worse last year since my best friend from HS goes to Virginia Tech and was right near the shootings as they happened and had met the shooter a few months earlier and had survivors guilt...........but now perhaps it has.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) Hope everything is well. I have a brother that lives in DeKalb, and his cell phone was cutting out all day. My father has actually been taught on how to give press briefings for disaster situations much like today, and they're teaching now that casualties should only be used for fatalities due to the terms perception in a war time. Yeah there are still 3 people I can't find, and I have significant concern about 2 of them. I can only hope I'm wrong.
  11. Yeah I'm fine, but fathom, if you saw the scene (or even the outskirts of it like I did), you'd know why he said casualties. It was a f***ing war zone. What a sad day, this stuff doesn't even surprise me anymore, but it's just a punch in the balls when it's your school. You can't prevent this stuff of course, but as long as the NRA exists, it will continue to happen relatively often (sorry to go political there). The cell phones here are still shot, I can't find everybody.....I am afraid to see the victim lists when they come out.

  13. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) That is the most intelligent thing I have seen you post in a long time. The thing that pisses me off most about this whole thing (other than the supposed lying/misleading/failure to cooperate) is that all of this is just stupid. If Sampson had half a brain he would have been doing what every other college coach learned they could get away with. Phone calls were regulated and restricted. Text messages, until last August, were not. All the idiot had to do is freakin text these guys instead. This whole mess is because he was too stupid to figure out how to communicate "within" the rules. Now this is actually accurate. To make it as a college coach at a high level, you have to cheat. Everybody does it, and people who deny that everybody does it simply have no knowledge of the system and have their heads in the sand to boot. But to actually get caught multiple times at the level Sampson has, you have to not only be cheating, you have to be INCREDIBLY stupid. The NCAA has no interest in catching cheaters, or they'd spend every moment of every day catching them, so to be caught, you have to be incredibly dumb.
  14. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 10:56 PM) Did you even watch the game? Wisconsin sat outside and shot threes all night long. Gordon drove to the basket constantly and got fouled many, but not all times. Looking at the FT attemps is an assinine way to determine how the game was called. That said, while I did not like several calls that were made, my glasses were colored so I am not going to make like an Illini fan and whine about the officiating. But if you are going to make statements, how about trying to make sure they have some semblence of truth. Haha, wow somebody is having a rough day. Yes I did watch the game, and if you think that a team can get shafted by the refs with a 15 shot advantage at the line, your stupid. End of story. Free throw attempts are indeed a poor way to determine officiating often times, but when it's a 20 to 5 difference, that argument goes out the window. I guess I'll let it slide though, rough day for the fanbase which can lead to silly commentary. And true enough greasy, I think Greenspan deserves the ax just as much for hiring somebody like Sampson as Sampson does for being who he is and doing what he does.
  15. QUOTE(farmteam @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) It was about 50-50 boos and cheers. As for the game...I'm very sad right now. I know how Illinois fans felt last week after Butch banked in that three. I'm also trying really hard not to grumble about the refs. I guess that's just a natural reaction after losing a game, as well as the easiest one. Grumble about the refs?? Free throw attempts were 20 to 5 Indiana, Eric Gordon alone had twice as many free throw attempts as the entire Wisconsin team, who shot their fewest free throws in 2 years. Yeah that play late was a travel, but overall the refs helped IU more than hurt them.
  16. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 10:30 PM) http://thebiglead.com/?p=4613#more-4613 That is what I heard last night, but not from a source I trust enough to have said it. We'll see, but there is a lot of smoke on that story. IU fans: If he's fired, what names will come up besides the obvious like Matta and Sean Miller?
  17. Thanks everybody, yesterday was a very good day.
  18. http://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/15494006.html I'm aware you can't really win a darwin award unless you die, but this guy should get an honorable mention.
  19. Well Sampson didn't cheat to get Gordon, I can say that. He might be the only guy Sampson DIDN'T cheat to get, but part of my biterness being at Weber over the Gordon thing is Sampson didn't cheat, he just beat Bruce to the punch, at least in that case. I had heard the McCamey stuff, but I am surprised to see it actually in the list. I feel bad for the IU fans (for the most part), but I can't feel bad for the school at all. Everybody knew Sampson's reputation, but they hired him anyways due to desperation I guess. The word that's been going on for a long time was that IU knew about this and wouldn't fire Sampson until after the season though, so I'm not surprised he hasn't gone anywhere yet. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if he's fired at anytime in the next few months either.
  20. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) IU hit up with more major allegations, won't get punished until Summer. I'd be shocked if Sampson isn't fired over this, the first line of allegations were nothing compared to what we will hear tomorrow.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) What about Romney's delegates? With the hate of McCain in right wing circles, I could see a backroom deal for Mitt and Huck to team up as the "conservative ticket" and slip the nomination out from under McCain. Wouldn't matter in my senario, as even if Huck wins every state left by an average margin of 50 percent to 40 (won't happen), McCain would have about 1,300 delegates and a backroom deal wouldn't be enough.
  22. Khabibulin is like the ultimate jinx........just can't win a game with him in there.
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 11:40 PM) Josh Shipp says hi. Yeah that's true, just because he never impresses me when I see him doesn't make his 15 points per game not count. He actually had a good game today too, and I'll admit UCLA just doesn't impress me and I was getting on Gage's SoCal bias.
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 05:16 AM) UCLA says hi. They are the team to beat in the NCAA and they are straight up built for the tourney. They looked good today against a TERRIBLE Washington team..... Anyways, UCLA still doesn't have a guy that can create and score his own shot on a consistent basis. They play great defense and are very well coached, which when you have the type of talent UCLA has can get you a long way, but they aren't winning a national championship until they recruit a scoring wing type player to their program (and no, Afflalo wasn't that type, couldn't create his own shot as we saw twice against Florida especially).
  25. Bruce Weber can't even get it right when he gets a top 10 national recruit apparently. Rumblings have been out of the north suburbs all year (including even from Warren homer Brian of these very boards) that Jereme Richmond is a cancer. While I have refused to believe it, tonight made me a believer. Richmond is out for mysterious *cough BULL s*** /cough* reasons tonight after a blowup in the locker room after losing to Evanston earlier this week, and low and behold, Waukegan plays it's best game all year and beats an outstanding North Chicago squad. Just freaking wonderful, ugh.
