Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to DePloderer's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm still very underwhelmed by England, that group of their's isn't exactly a power. -
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) This bullpen looks a lot better with Riske in it. Assumng CP is ok in a week as expected, we have: BAMFBJ Cotts B-Mac Thornton Riske Politte (a healthier one with better stuff hopefully) As long as Politte and Riske stay healthy and just do around what they are capable of, that pen is actually pretty decent.

Despite my disagreements on things, I don't think it was "out of line" to try and throw at Blalock, and I don't even think it would necesarily be out of line to after the game, in private, chew out Tracey for not hitting him. However to do it in the dugout like that, in what was obviously at least partial view of t.v. cameras, was way out of line.
-
The question that needs to be asked is.....why would Ozzie send Tracey in to hit somebody?? Even if you 100 percent agree with the move, Tracey has the worst control on the team and would be most likely to miss by far.

QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) Pal, his career OBP is .351, only one point higher than the .350 that you say he has no chance of slipping below. Are you delusional? He's only hitting .253 right now.....the OBP is still around .350 though since he's drawing a lot more walks. And like I said, unless he stops drawing walks or hits below his career .275 average, his OBP should be .375. Not sure what part of that you don't understand.
-
QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 09:58 AM) If his OBP is under .350 for the season, the Sox should go find a different leadoff hitter for 2007. No matter how many bases his steals. There is no chance of that happening. In fact, the only way his OBP ends up below .375 is if he stops walking or hits below his career average. He's not doing well right now, but he'll bounce back just like he did in late April.

That video is from a game at the Illini practice facility during a camp earlier this month between 2007 big man verbals Mike Tisdale and Bill Cole. It's only about 3 minutes, but definitely suggested viewing, especially if these 2 verbals make you nervous in terms of how good they are. I will say that I have seen Cole in person in a few times, and seeing this video (which shows off Tisdale a lot better) shows me why Bruce wanted (and got) both of them, as they are different in a lot of ways. Cole is more of a 3/4 combo player who is pretty quick and athletic for a 6'9 guy, can shoot 3's, but is also a pretty good shot blocker and mid range shooter. As for Tisdale.....I think he could be a MONSTER steal. Obviously playing at a Class A school means he will have his doubters and be overlooked, but he's a legit 7'1, has range out to the 3 point line and beyond, a VERY quick and high release on his shot (a la Brian Cook), and is surprisingly athletic and quick for a guy that size who is only his age. Also a very very impressive shot blocker. Overall, they both need to (and will gain weight), but I think Cole seems like a guy who will be a solid starter/super 6th man type here. As for Tisdale, more time to develop, maybe a redshirt year, and a lot of cheeseburgers....and wow he could be just a star player. He excites me as much as any recruit we've gotten not named Eric Gordon since the 2002 superclass. Figured you might be interested (Illini fans especially). It's good to see us getting talent like this, since we will need it with Thad recruiting at tOSU, and now Kelvin Sampson who is a proven very good coach at IU, along with Izzo and Bo Ryan of course as well.

http://www.baseballlibrary.com/baseballlib...Necciai_Ron.stm I stumbled on this reading some things tonight....I actually had no idea about this guy or the fact he did this. http://www.blueridgecountry.com/necciai/ That link has a much more extended and detailed story on Necciai. He actually had games of 19 and 20 strikeouts before the 27 game, and he struck out 24 and threw a 2 hitter in his very next start after the historic one in front of an overflow minor league crowd of 5,000+. It's a damn shame that he had what sounds like bad ulcer and arm issues that cut his career so incredibly short, he could have done a lot of amazing things it seems like.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) I heard the new (crappy) song from Beyonce featuring Jay-Z, and I'm almost 100% positive Jay-Z included a rhyme about running mentioning Juan Pierre by name. Anyone else hear this? I have not heard this, however I assume for the sake of accuracy Jay-Z also mentions how Pierre is maybe the most useless everyday player in baseball this year?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) You and this guy are the only ones that believe someone shouldnt of been beaned tonight for plunking AJ twice. *Sighs* I didn't ever even say nobody should be beaned. However you don't have your announcer b****ing about it, have your manager (in plain view of everybody) b**** at somebody for "missing" the guy that was supposed to be hit, and then have your entire fanbase b**** because nobody was taken out. That's a sad attitude, and the way people seem to think this will affect the team and cause us to get less respect is laughable.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) Im done, dont worry. Aww, no fun.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) Or you should stop posting, so Heads wouldnt have so much of a problem. Hey!! I may be the worst poster here, but I'm not the ONLY idiot.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) Yeah. If we ever drop to the bottom of the division we just wont do game threads, cause I won't be able to handle it. Uh oh, does Heads have an issue with stupid people/stupid comments?? If so, you really shouldn't be hanging around a sports fan message board.

OFFICIAL GO CUBBIES THIS WEEKEND THREAD!!!
whitesoxfan101 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) I'm disappointed in all the references to them being the "Cubbies." I was under the impression that that was a term of endearment. Perhaps you're all secretly Cubs fans? I make no secret of my bias. For this weekend, I want the Northsiders to succeed. I actually use "Cubbies" as a sarcastic term since all the idiot fans tend to call them that, wheras the 2 or 3 dozen good Cub fans out there just say "Cubs". That's just me though. -
Makes sense after this evening, I just want to forget that game happened, and since Detroit lost and it didn't cost us in the standings, that makes it pretty easy to do. Hopefully we make it 3 of 4 tomorrow.
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) I don't see anyone complaining about Joe Crede sliding spikes high into second base in the 9th inning of an 8-run game. Amen. I'm giving up on this thread though, the meathead attitude is pretty sickening. I'm expecting everybody to call Jason Grimsley a rat next.
-
QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:38 PM) I think the fact that we've been hit so much and don't do s*** about it is whats pissing everyone off especially when you have guys like Montero and Tracey capable of doing it and they fail... We didn't retaliate last year, and things worked out pretty well for us, so this argument just doesn't hold water, ESPCIALLY since we got beaned even more last season. If you want to do that, then we will see fights, suspensions, and turmoil. But hey, who cares about continuity, having everybody, and winning games.....we gotta "protect our own"!!! That's what it's about, not winning games. :rolly
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) Oh sure. Just turn the other cheek and allow other teams to take liberties with our players. Thats just f***ing great. :rolly Do you think people are going to leave A.J. alone if we play beanball and get people suspended? That's exactly what they want, the 2nd guy in always is the one in trouble anyways. Is this somehow going to hurt us in the standings that we aren't throwing beanball? f***ing pathetic, we didn't resort to that bulls*** last year, and we won't do it this year. We won it all last year, and might again this year. None of this "tough guy" bulls*** attitudes that i'm embarassed to see our fans have means anything. Fights and throwing at people doesn't bring anybody closer together, winning games does. (I can't believe I have to explain this basic logic to SOX fans, I thought we were smarter than this, ugh).
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) The main reason I'm angry about this is because I'm tired of AJ getting nailed for no reason; he gets punched in the face, escobar decides to throw at him, padilla throws at him twice, it's annoying. Eventually someone needs to step up and make it stop because our guys do seem to get hit intentionally(and that's the key) a lot without responding at all. What do you suggest?? Should we just bean people, suspensions and fines be damned, until the mean boys stop?? Unreal, how about we keep winning and don't worry that people don't like A.J. People don't like our catcher, he's going to get s***, it's not going to change if we headhunt.
-
Agreed on this thread. We should play beanball with people because they don't like us, get people kicked out, risk suspensions, and risk more fights. This could be the dumbest bunch of meatball attitudes I've ever seen, which is a shame for a board this good. GMAFB, let's play ball and if people want to throw at us, that's their f***ing problem. We have a pennant to win, and the fact we got blasted tonight is the problem (although thanks D-Rays, still only 1.5 out).

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) That sounds great in theory, but then I'd need you to explain what happened in 2004. Road Average: .405 (358 ABs) Home Average: .338 (346 ABs) His 2002 splits are also kind of telling, but it's only a 30 point difference (.338 away to .308 at home), as opposed to a 67 point difference in 2004. Hmm interesting point. I never understand splits, I mean s*** Matthews Jr. in Texas is hitting way better on the road this year for example. I'll just give up and say Ichiro is obnoxious, regardless of what park he is playing in.
-
I'll be at the game on Saturday, should be a great time.
-
Great graph Heads, nice job. The other interesting fact is our exact per game average right now is at 34,615 (which is going to go up obviously). Now keeping in mind that we don't jam more than 39,300 (and a couple dozen in change) into the stadium for any RS games now, our attendance to capacity ratio is damn good. Using 39,300 as the capacity number for mathematics sake, the stadium is on average filled at 88.1 percent to capacity per game. That number is mind boggling as an average for us, I thought I'd never see the day (and that number should be over 90 percent by the end of the year).
-
I sure hope Javy throws a lot of strikeouts and ground balls.....that could be the worst outfield defense in the history of baseball (and I honestly don't think I'm kidding).
-
Btw, Ichiro hit his season (and heck, probably career low that late in a season) average of .260 after a game vs. Cleveland on May 5th (day after Count owned him). Since then, here's his game by game average for the season after the game. May: .263 .270 .277 .288 .287 .290 .288 .293 .299 .297 .311 .308 .306 .314 .320 .322 .320 .314 .313 .316 .327 .323 .326 .332 June: .335 .342 .339 .341 .350 .358 .362 .364 .367 .366 .364 Also, his official at bag log starting on May 27th: 2/4 4/5 0/3 2/4 3/5 2/4 3/4 1/5 2/4 4/5 4/6 3/5 2/4 3/6 1/4 1/4 Total (16 games): 37/72 (.514 batting average) And overall, he's gained 104 points in his batting average in 5 weeks
