QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 30, 2006 -> 12:45 AM) If the Heat win one more game, I can't wait to hear woody Paige gloat. Paige is my favorite comedian. LOOK AT THE SCHEDULE!!! -
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Oh man, sooo funny on several levels. Mom defending her boy, the fans taunting Jacque were in Dusty's seats....classic!!

I'm sorry, but I HAD to post these, tooo funny. I think Stoney is doing the bunny hop in picture #2

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 30, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) I'd rather take my chances against anyone else. Walk him at any chance. Amen. If Pujols got the IBB like he should have today, it's bases loaded 2 outs for Rolen. Now Rolen is hitting over .300, but he has only 4 or 5 home runs and...he's not Pujols.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 30, 2006 -> 12:22 AM) Garland will need to post a 3.80 ERA for the next 140 innings to meet that projection. He's gone nearly a third of the season with an ERA almost 2 runs above his career average. I'll settle for him pitching his career average for the remainder of the season, which will put him north of 5.00 to end the season, and have 85% of the site calling for his head. Hmm good point, I guess I didn't think of how deep into the season we are. I dunno, I guess I am suffering from the "only one stat matters" viewpoint, and we are 6-4 in Jon starts, which paces us at 18-12 in the first 30 starts from our #5 starter. And with that in mind, Jon can and probably will pitch at least a little better eventually, which could improve that record.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 30, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) I wasn't arguing how good a pitcher Jon is, I was just correcting you because you said he flatlined after a good start last year, which isn't true. Well he wasn't terrible, but he wasn't as good in the 2nd half as he was the 1st. However he did what we needed in the playoffs obviously, so well done in that regard.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 30, 2006 -> 12:14 AM) Well done. The three game series with the Braves, which featured 0 Cubs wins and a comedy of poor play, drew 124,089 and set a franchise record for attendance in a 3-game series. You douchebags really stuck it to the Tribune company. Those numbers are why the 2 following are true: 1. The Cubs always have (well almost always) and always will suck. The Tribune has no reason to get rid of this cash cow, and has no reason to try to win with the sheep at the game every day. 2. I always have and always will hate and wish the worst on the Cubs. That whole operation is an embarassment to Chicago, all of them....the fans, owners, front office, ballpark, neighborhood, all of it.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 30, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) Look at Jon's 2nd half and playoff numbers from last year, I'm not sure you can tell me that with a straight face. I'm aware, I watch the games. Jon finished with a 3.50 ERA last year, IMO that's a run or so below where he should be all things considered (he pitches in a great hitters park, doesn't have overwhelming stuff, not a big k guy, AL, etc). Jon is a guy that should have an ERA of 4.50 or so and pitch about 200 innings, and on this team that makes him the 5th starter and a guy that can win 14 or 15 games with this offense. Now on paper, you see that and say "how the f*** is that worth 3 and 29"....but if your 26 and throw 200 innings, while having a slightly below league average or so ERA, it's worth it....especially on a team like this where he is the #5.
-
To answer this, no it wasn't. Jon had a fluke start to the year, and after that pretty much flatlined to his normal self. Jon is what he is, he's a 5th starter who eats innings and is average. However in today's horrid market where pitching is so hard to find, 3/29 for a mid 20's pitcher with tons of experience who throws 200 innings and has a mid 4's ERA (which is where Jon will end up again this year IMO) is market value. All I know is Jon will pitch better than he is right now. He won't be MB or anything, but he'll finish with a 4.60 ERA or so and 14 or 15 wins and 200+ IP, and that's not bad for a 5th starter (which is what he is on this staff, by far).

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 29, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) What f***in' planet is Dwane Wade from? My god! This dude is unbelievable. What's he shooting in this series? 70%? Against the Pistons? That's some Jordan s*** right there. This series doesn't go past game 6. He's scary. From day 1 in the NBA he's been able to get whatever shot he wants, but now you see the hard work paying off as now he makes all the open shots he gets. He's going to be hell for years to come, since now he can make all the shots he gets for himself, gets to the line and rarely misses there, can hit 3's all of a sudden, and is a very good passer. However, he's still #2 if i'm drafting an NBA team behind LeBron, but damn is he good. -
This is an interesting subject. I had a friend who was recruited to play college football....and when it comes to text messaging, the rules are VERY loose and are just about never followed, since it's so hard to prove wrongdoing (unless the kid himself tells, which they never do). I know Zook uses text messaging A LOT recruiting for the Illini.

I'm not sure if I should feel this way or not, but every Heat win makes me feel better about the Bulls next year considering how tough the Bulls played Miami. -

Well Flip overplayed his starters all year long, and that combined with the Heat coming together is proving a fatal combo. Heat win by double digits yet again with a huge 4th quarter run yet again, and the Heat lead 3 to 1. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 29, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) I agree, but they just dont look like the same team. IMO the loss of Coco is hurting them the most(I know how bad there pitching has been) Michaels has a .330 OBP, which isn't too far off from what Crisp had last year, and they are #2 in offense. The Indians problem is they have 11 pitchers on their 25 man roster right now, and 9 of them as of today....suck. That is not a good thing. -
Tigers offense shut out on back to back days by guys named Johnson with ERA's over 5 (as I mentioned in the other thread). That's an interesting development, and once again the Tigers have a 1 game lead in the loss column on us despite all the magic and pixie dust they've used to get off to this start. They are a legit 90 win team, but we're a legit 95 to 99 win team.
-
Prior is a few syringes short of that old 95 MPH fastball he threw in the past. Maybe he'll find it, but those velocity reports should terrify Cubs fans.
-
On the day Thome monster hits #20, Frank hits #10. If Frank can somehow defy the odds and stay healthy, he could hit 30 or so outta the yard, even though his average and OBP are so far down due to the lack of mobility. The Tigers have been shut down and out on back to back days by guys named Johnson with ERA's over 5. Well done boys.

They are 24-26, we should beat them down right about now. Our competition is clearly Detroit, the Indians and Twins have far too many flaws to do anymore than play .500 ball. Let's keep winning and get 3 at The Jake before heading home. -
Keep booing him Cleveland fans, they don't call your hellhole of a town the "mistake by the lake" for nothing. 20 down, 30 to go for the season, although hey maybe he'll hit more than 50.

I agree btw WHarris1 that it was a bad call...but there are so many bad calls in every NBA game that it evens out anyways IMO. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 28, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) I gotta say, this is the most enjoyable year of baseball (outside of the Sox) I've witnessed. Sports talk radio has become enjoyable again thanks to the current state of Cubs fans. Hillarious. Agreed, it is a blast to listen to sports radio and Cubs fans right now. QUOTE(Soxy @ May 28, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) Can I just insert a quick Cubs joke here? Pretty please? What did Jesus tell the Cubs the last time He was here? Don't do anything until I come back. hahahaha Ok I'll play!! Why shouldn't the Cubs have a website? Because they can't string 3 straight W's together.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 28, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) I can't wait until 30% of the Hall of fame voters or more are stubborn enough to keep the #2 home run hitter of all time out of the Hall all the way to the Veterans committee. I hope your right, but I doubt it.

QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ May 28, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) Willie Harris in left field guns down Gathright to win the game. Well he did throw him out to end the game, but Gathright wasn't even at 3rd yet when Harris threw it from left, I coulda thrown out Gathright on that play, not sure why the hell he was sent....

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 28, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) Bulls*** call in the Phoenix/Dallas game and all the ref can say is "my fault". Nice job, assbag The Suns lost because the game was played below 100, and the Suns s*** defense is exposed in that kind of game. They better figure out a way to speed the pace next game or they will be facing elimination when they return to Dallas.
