  1. QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) I guarantee KW and Ozzie's mindset is if they need another arm in the pen more than who is gonna be our CF. Well they need to look outside our organization if they want an another arm to help out in the pen. And also, that would be bad timing.....we lost today because of the offense and their execution, not the pen at all. And we STILL beat the Cubs last Sunday despite the pen if Uribe doesn't make a s*** throw to 1st.
  2. I'd say Detroit's hot play has something to do with the rant, but I honestly think it's more about our play. The execution in almost every close loss, not what the other team did, has been why we lost those games.
  3. BA is better in every offensive category in the book other than steals and average than, you gussed it, Juan Pierre. Take that in account along with the fact that our everyday lineup has 7 guys that can rake, and the fact that BA is a top 10 defensive outfielder in the game, and to be honest as much as I see what we are thinking, sending BA down wouldn't make too much sense.
  4. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) BA's one of the last reasons we're 3.5 out. I agree, however that is probably KW and Ozzie's mindset right now. I don't agree with it, but I'm saying that may be what they are thinking.
  5. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) The thing is, if Jermaine freaking Dye, a proven MLB hitter with a career OPS way above 100, can struggle for 2 months, then a rookie sure as hell can. We love to make conclusions after small sample sizes, but I don't think it's a good idea. I'm not saying BA is going to get even above .250 this season, but a 250/320/420 line is fine with me if he plays "Rowand like" defense in CF. Runs prevented are very important as well as runs scored. Great point, plus I remember in 2003 that Konerko guy had a bit of a rough stretch at the dish.....
  6. QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) Me, Heads, Jas, Greasy, Rowand, WH1 (and others I'm not gonna say all the names but you know who you are) have been BA's biggest supporters. I'm not gonna give up on him. I believe he can hit here and I'm gonna stick by it until he hits .0-- whatever. I also hate that were behind the Tigers but I also know it will not last long (hell it might not even last longer this week.) I'm a supporter too and if we send him down it would be VERY dumb, I'm just playing devil's advocate here and saying what the Sox are thinking. My true opinion is that this is silly, we've had some DUMB and BAD losses lately, but the only one that I blame directly on BA is the Friday loss to the Blue Jays in April. Most of our stupid losses are bullpen or execution related (SEE: Bunt by Pods in the 9th today). We need Brian's defense, and as Jay Bilas would say, I think Brian has "spurtability" at the plate, just looks like a guy who could bust out at any moment.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) Todd Walker Correct, the Cubs want as many fast athletic guys who can't hit for s*** or draw a walk as possible. It's a brilliant strategy by Hendry.
  8. Iowa should be Chernobyl'd so nobody can live there for several centuries. Evacuate Heads and the others on here from there first, then do it. That state is really just a giant cesspool of corn, hogs, tornadoes, and Cubs fans for the most part.
  9. QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) I'm just waiting for BA to go 3-4 tomorrow and then just go off this month to just quiet the doubters. Anderson will be a VERY good player in the long run, and maybe a good hitter sooner rather than later, but it's such a battle to be patient with him when we are trying to win another World Title and are all of a sudden 3.5 games out.
  10. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) It's almost as if Guillen hasn't seen the Mackowiak misreads that've cost us games -- two by my count. Anderson's bat has also cost us a couple games, the Friday game at The Cell against Toronto where he left 9 on base (I think it was 9) comes to mind. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) How exactly would Owens help the team right now even if he were ready? Would he play CF or LF? Do you move Pods to CF, a position that he played poorly in Milwaukee and has not played consistantly in over a year? If you do any of these, the team will still struggle big time defensively and you'll see a sudden dip in pitching effectiveness. I agree with you, that's my point, what you are saying.
  11. The other reason Ozzie did this was we are heading into a critical stretch of games. We are not only heading into a critical stretch of games, but our execution has been laughable, has cost us games, and we are now 3.5 out of first. That's far from panic point, but when your 3.5 out, but would be 2 or 3 up if you could execute, it's something that needs to be pointed out. Today was the 4th game of this month alone that we lost due exclusively to s*** execution, and we will be sitting at home watching this October if it continues. 31-17 is a good record, but if we were executing properly we'd be about 36-12 (no joke), which shows both how good we are, but also how much better we would be if we'd execute. That's Ozzie's point.
  12. Unless Owens is ready all of a sudden or Sweeney is magically healed up and ready, this is a very bad idea.
  13. Ozzie is right, we have lost at least half a dozen games this year due to s*** execution and stupidity. We are better than this and he should be pissed off, there is no excuse for today, it was an embarassment and we better wake the f*** up. Way to say what's really going on Ozzie, people need to look past the record.
  14. I'm hoping the Bulls take Ager with that 2nd 1st rounder. He is a legit 6'4 or 6'5 with a huge wingspan, is a world class athlete, can shoot from the perimeter, and plays pretty solid defense. He's somebody that could potentially develop into a Vince Carter type player, and is a legit 2 that can play as a rookie and play significant minutes IMO.
  15. Dwyane Wade was 13 of 17 and scored 35 in a mind bogglingly efficient game. But the bigger story is the reason Wade was so open, Shaq had 27 and 12 boards and looked like circa 2000 Shaq as the Heat win by 15. If Shaq shows up like that on Monday, this will be 3-1 heading back to Detroit because the Heat are built for that, if Shaq is dominant they are unbeatable because of all the other players that can help Shaq and Wade out if they are open. Question is, can Shaq be that dominant again in game 4.
  16. Good stuff, although I'm sure that's just an "outtake".
  17. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 26, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) Check it out, it's Soxtalk's version of John Freaking Steinbeck. No clue what that means, but I'll take it as long as it doesn't mean I'm gay. We have a winner!!
  18. It seems like that 3 run homer by Piazza into a stiff wind on a dead cold day has turned into Dempster's "Pujols" moment. Interesting.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 26, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) The cubs are seriously inventing new ways to lose. Haha I just posted that in the other thread without seeing your comment, it's so true. They are an amazing team to watch, that's for sure.
  20. That was so unreal that I couldn't even laugh. I am just amazed at how bad they are, they are literally inventing new ways to lose games. And so much for that new and improved bullpen, Dumpster blows all of a sudden.
  21. Fines mean nothing, A.J. will live. The suspensions are exactly what I expected, so this was a lot of waiting for nothing. Enjoy your week and a half off Barrett.
  22. No surprises, Anderson with 5, Barrett with 10, Cora got 2 games, nothing else other than fines. Fair enough, we'll see how appeals go.
  23. QUOTE(VAfan @ May 25, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) You guys seriously underestimate the Tigers' staying power. Their pitching is MUCH stronger than the Tribe's, and it will keep them in the hunt well into September even if we crack 100 wins. I expect the Tigers to continue on their torrid pace at least through the All-Star break and get far enough over .500 that even if they fall back to a .500 pace, they'll end up winning in the mid-90s and winning the wild card. I don't see the Tribe pitching well enough to go on the 24-4 tear that almost got them in last year. Hitting just isn't consistent enough by itself to carry a team. Well if you think the Tigers can continue playing .700 ball, go on ahead and be naive. And I hope they enjoy the 1 game lead in the loss column over the Sox, clearly something that is insurmountable.
  24. QUOTE(JackTalkThai @ May 25, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) I'm guessing probably the same thing that you're you going to do if they don't. This Tiger team is a lot better than you seem to be giving them credit for. No problem though, the masses were doubting the ChiSox last season, pretty much all season...just waiting for them to collapse and drop back to reality. It never happened though. You better plan on staying healthy all season, and better hope all of your mediocre players that are playing over their heads continue, and that your 100 year old closer stays around, and that your injury prone everyday players stay healthy, and that the Sox continue to not click on all cylinders. P.S.- Your ONE game ahead of us in the loss column and 0-3 against us head to head, all 3 being at your park. Enjoy this stretch of tough games you have coming up, see you back on earth and in 2nd place in not too long.
  25. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 25, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) I just don't get it, since Indiana hasn't exactly "sinned" or had any kind of violation since 1960. The heirarchy programs are ignored for a reason.
