Well he's going to get his shot down there. Their young OF's have been struggling, so Hermida and Willingham are going to be at the corners just about everyday, leaving a spot for Olivo to play. He's still got a cannon arm and shows flashes, so I wish him the best, but I doubt he ever really puts it together.

The Cubs are definitely toast unless somehow the 3 china dolls come back and pitch well and stay healthy, but I doubt it. In this years NL they could handle losing Lee OR a couple a starters for a month or two, but not both.

Sox Should Make Signing Buehrle Top Priority
whitesoxfan101 replied to aboz56's topic in Pale Hose Talk
aboz, it's a very well done article, and I agree we should lock up Buehrle, so I gave it high ratings. However I just don't know how fiscally responsible it would be to sign him at 5/14 per or something like that. -
Anyone go to the Jenks signing?
whitesoxfan101 replied to Punch and Judy Garland's topic in Pale Hose Talk
One of my close friends went to it. She told me it was a very good time and Bobby was extremely nice and seemed like a very kind person. Also said he reminds her of "the pillsbury doughboy" which made me laugh. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 02:51 AM) The Reds might have found another Felipe Lopez here. They've really got a vey nice lineup at the moment if that's the case, and they could afford to play Griffey at 1B and Freel at CF. GREAT point, I was actually going to put that last night. Phillips story is very similar to Lopez, and Felipe is a VERY good player now (won the silver slugger and had great numbers last year). Hot damn, if Phillips develops here, they would have quite a middle infield with 2 guys that they stole off the scrap heap basically and are still young. Lopez, Kearns, Dunn, Encarnacion (who's off to a very good start), now Phillips....that's 5 young cornerstones right there among everyday players (and Freel is solid too and still pretty young, 29 I think) as long as Kearns stays healthy. Now they need pitching and depth, and a minor league system. lol. Also, the Freel to CF and Griffey to 1B idea is very interesting. That would give the Reds a lineup of: Freel CF Lopez SS Griffey 1B Dunn LF Kearns RF Encarnacion 3B Phillips 2B LaRue C P That's a hell of a lineup, probably the best in the NL other than the Mets, and a pretty young one at that.

I would also point out I feel VERY bad for D Lee the player and person, he's a real good guy and seems to not be about the money, a lot like our guy Konerko. The people I refuse to feel bad for are the pathetic Cubs fans who continue to follow this joke and then say Sox fans are all pathetic when the Cubs fans are the ones b****ing that our players don't get hurt. Please, get over yourself.

Ehh Lee's career won't be affected by this as long as he recovers properly, but at the same time it's doubtful Lee will be himself again this season.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 06:48 AM) Doesnt Thome have numbers against Minnesota that are almost as insane as they were against the White Sox? I seem to remember that he was just as big as a Twin Killer as he was a Sox killer. Thome has insane numbers against every team not named Cleveland. He basically raped and pillaged the whole division when he was with the Indians.

Prince Fielder has been RED HOT since being moved down to #7 in the lineup after a slow start. After going 3 for 5 with an RBI tonight, Fielder is now hitting .383 on the season with 2 homers, 10 RBI's, 8 runs, 6 walks, and even a stolen base. Problem is the Brewers have been getting no pitching lately, and were torched again tonight in a 12-8 loss at Miller Park to the Reds, who quietly have started solid at 10-6.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) I think the score is being ultra sensitive right now with the cubs. They lost alot of respect by getting t he sox on their dial, and now don't want to scare away any more cubs fans. That is all true, but Offman is one of the few Cubs fans they have over there at the Score, and Levine does s*** 10 times worse than Offman ever has as the beat guy.

The 47 year old Julio Franco comes in as a pinch hitter tonight, with his team down 2-1 in the 8th, at a great pitchers park (San Diego) and one of baseball's best middle relivers in in Scott Linebrink. So what does Franco do? He goes oppo for a clutch 2 run homer to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. That guy is just unbelieveable. EDIT: Franco is now the oldest player ever to hit a homer in an MLB game, methinks this will end up with it's own thread. Damn and he did it in a clutch spot too, bravo Julio.

Willie went 1 for 2 in his debut including a clutch single in the 9th inning with 1 out that loaded the bases and gave Red Sox sluggers Trot Nixon and Jason Varitek chances to tie it with a slam, but the mighty Dan Miceli whiffed Nixon and induced a harmless flyout by Varitek to end it.

QUOTE(Yoda @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) Nice to see us in 1st place all by ourselves. This weekend should be interesting though. We face some pretty good starters in Santana, Radke, and Silva while the Indians face the Royals. Santana scares me like hell obviously. Radke and Silva should be interesting, both are guys with below average stuff who get by by not walking anybody and throwing strikes. Our guys have done a great job of being patient at the plate this year, but we need to attack Radke and Silva early in the count and often, because they will give you hittable pitches to try and get ahead in the count.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) Anybody checkin' out the D-rays/Red Sox game on ESPN 2? Scott Kazmir made the Red Sox offense look foolish. The Mets will forever be idiots for giving this guy away. Yep, he's a stud and a steal for my fantasy teams. He actually left due to "injury" which freaked me out, but it was only a "thumb cramp" and he won't miss a start. Saw the kid in person last July in Tampa as he struck out 11 and left with the lead in a low scoring game, his stuff is NASTY, especially for a young lefty like that.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) When I came home from work today, turned on the T.V., and heard about this, I immediately shut on my computer, went to soxtalk, and now giving you your props. You really called that from yesterday. It was a strange coincidence cuz you said if the cubs won, Lee's injured. Well... what do ya know... Nice call. Haha it was such common sense with how the Cubs and karma works. Their fans should have rooted for a loss last night, it would have been a good sign for Lee. As for a Cubs fan coming over here to make snide remarks.....shove it up your ass. All Cubs fans do is b**** about how healthy we are and ask and wish somebody from our team would get hurt. Clean our own damn closet and stop hating before you tell us to.

Ok this guy is an interesting story. He was actually at one time a higher rated prospect than almost anybody playing currently for the Indians, but could never find it at the plate and ended up out of town. All of a sudden he resurfaces in Cincinnati, and due to the injury to Griffey moving Freel to CF and the fact that Tony Womack blows, he is getting PT. Well Phillips has been playing very good defense for the Reds, but is also red hot at the plate. He was 3 for 5 tonight with 2 runs scored, 2 homers (one a grand slam) and 6 RBI's. So for the season in only 9 games, he is hitting .367 (11-30) with 2 homers, 13 RBI's, and 5 runs scored, as well as 3 k's. Now obviously this is a small sample size, but it should be interesting to see how this goes as he is going to continue to get PT it appears, and Phillips is still a talented 2B prospect and still only 24 years old.

Well I said last night that inconclusive meant at least 2 months, so 8 to 12 weeks means at least 3 months. So now the Cubs lineup relies on the pretty fragile himself Aramis Ramirez, and a pitching staff full of China Dolls. Good luck!

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) For what that team needed, absolutely. They already have guys who feast off of lefties (Belliard, V. Mart, Michaels), and they added another masher vs LHP. Considering they had Jose Hernandez in that spot last season, it's a huge upgrade. It's an upgrade and a nice signing, but not even close to one of the best of the offseason IMO, that's a BIG stretch to say.
-
Willie hit the ball very well after he came back up late last season, and obviously had a pretty big hit in game 4 . Good luck to Willie, I hope he does well for the Saux.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 03:08 PM) And just like that, one of the best signings of the offseason, Eduardo Perez, homers to give Cleveland a 3-2 lead. A 37 year old platoon man at 1st base who only hits lefties is one of the best signings of the offseason?

Time for Bonds to bow out disgracefully
whitesoxfan101 replied to Phuck the Cubs's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) Only reason Rose even was caught was that he was racking up huge debt to bookies and never paying them. It just gets sickening that people are willing to throw Bonds under a bus for at the absolute worst, cheating in a game. There are so many pro-Athletes who have actually committed real crimes, spousal abuse, DUI, murder, yet here people come painting Bonds as the worst thing ever. Ill just be happy when Bonds is acquitted and breaks Ruth's record. The Babe was great, but in terms of history he represents a dark time in America when racism prevented many talented players from ever having a chance at the big leagues. Thats nothing against the Babe, but part of me will always feel better knowing that those tainted records will eventually be wiped off the books. Because in my opinion, the taint of racism is far worse than the taint of steriods. A few things: 1. Pete Rose is banned for life and not in the Hall and he more than deserves it. Bonds also deserves to be banned for life and not in the Hall. I'm not going to say what either did is worse, but both cheated the game and had a direct impact on games by doing illegal things. If anything, Bonds is A BIT worse since we know he hit home runs and did other things at the plate he wouldn't have been able to do while clean, but they both deserve a lifetime ban. 2. For the first highlighted paragraph....I have no problem that Bonds is an asshole as a person and hates everybody and everybody is racist and he hates the media, etc. Those things are sadly why the media is attacking only him so much (that and the fact he has 700 plus homers), while leaving other cheaters like Big Mac and Sosa alone, but those aren't why I hate Bonds so much and want him gone. My issue with Bonds is he was going to be a 500/500 player WITHOUT cheating, but he was so egotistical that he had to start cheating so he could break all kinds of records and get attention. That is just pathetic, I mean if your a guy that takes the roids to make your family some money and get yourself in the majors, at least that has SOME logic. But Bonds was a hall of famer as a skinny guy with 30/30 skills, and for him to STILL cheat is unreal. 3. Bonds will never, ever be acquitted. Will it ever be proven conclusively that he did steroids beyond the documents we have now in the books and newspapers? I doubt it (although it's SO SO obvious he's guilty to anybody with a brain), but there is no chance in hell he is acquitted of anything other than perjury charges, and that won't prove us anything. As for Bonds vs. Ruth, HE'S NOT BREAKING A RECORD!! Babe Ruth DOES NOT hold the home run record, HANK AARON does. When Bonds passes Ruth, he moves into the #2 spot on the all time list, he does not break any record. Record means #1. The only personal issue I have with Bonds is how he wants to pass Ruth just so 2 black guys will be at the top of the list, now THAT is racist and pathetic on Bonds part. 4. Finally, I agree with you 100 percent on Ruth. He's an all time great since he was hitting more home runs than teams, and was also a great pitcher, and stuff like that.....but at the same time, his accomplishments are tainted to a degree since he played pre 1947, and the same goes for any great player who played before the color barrier was broken. -
Pods needs to be more selective with his steal attempts....it doesn't matter how many bases you steal if your getting caught as often has Pods has since the middle of last season.

I was at the Friday game and downstairs, so I had a decent view of it all. Vasquez was looking pretty good considering who he was pitching against the first 4 innings other than a walk and a homer by Hillenbrand, and then all of a sudden he couldn't get anybody out and everything was being hit hard. The fact that his struggles hit so fast and came out of nowhere at a time where he wouldn't be tired yet is what makes me tend to believe Toronto might have picked up on something with him tipping his pitches. As for where did I hear this, Coop and Ozzie were both talking about it the other day.

UCLA guards Afflalo, Farmar entering NBA draft
whitesoxfan101 replied to aboz56's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
This seems like a "get your name out there" move, simliar to what Roger Powell did in entering his name in the draft before withdrawing after his Junior year (and yes, I know Afflalo is a sophomore). Unless of course, there is something more to Afflalo than I saw in the tournament, because he didn't look like an NBA player to me other than he has length and can defend. -
Sox Should Make Signing Buehrle Top Priority
whitesoxfan101 replied to aboz56's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 01:17 PM) I'd say 5 and 65 is fair for both parties, but I'm not sure he'd accept it. Being perhaps the biggest Buehrle apologist around, I'm probably not the one to ask. I think Flash Tizzle should be able to give you a better idea or Tony or Jason. Ugh. 5 years at 13 per for a guy that only sees the field once every 5 days makes me nervous, even if it is Buehrle. I know pitching is at a premium, especially a sturdy lefty, but damn.
