  1. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) No love for BMAC yet... He dominated out of the pen... It's almost expected that he will do that nowadays, which is a great sign. Nope, but he did keep the ball down WAY better tonight than his first 2 starts and had much better control. Other than the pitch to Teahan which was deposited in the bleachers, Garland kept the ball down very well and as long as he does that and has his control, he will avoid the free baserunners and get a lot of ground balls, which puts him in a great spot to do well. Another subtle thing was Ozzie. Garland had only pitched 6 and a third and had a mid 80's pitch count, but Ozzie took him out. Normally I'd be against that, but tonight was a perfect spot to do it, BMac hadn't pitched in several days so he needed the work (and looked great) and Ozzie got Jon out with a guaranteed QS and a great shot to win (and only win) the game, a big confidence boost.
  2. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) Wood was also abused by his high school baseball coaches during a crucial time in his physical development. Certaintly his awkward mechanics didn't help avoid arm issues. Personally, I've always considered Garcia's pitching motion violent, but he's yet to experience any significant arm injuries. Conditioning plays an important role in maintaining arm strength. We appear to have this concept down well. I wouldn't be concerned with McCarthy. Very well said. Also, McCarthy does have a pretty violent motion, but has a WAY WAY WAY more mechincally sound followthrough than Wood, and the followthrough IMO is the whole reason Wood has so many problems.
  3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) More importantly in my mind is that because Milwaukee lost, if we win against Toronto then we miss Detroit. We woulda avoided Detroit with a win tomorrow regardless of what happened tonight. Unless of course, ESPN, The Score, Yahoo, and the AP are wrong. But hey, that is possible knowing how they are.
  4. The 2 worst franchises play in the same town, pretty sad (although one is the Cubs, so who gives a f*** about them). And your right Jimbo, if this team got new ownership and FO people and just got somewhat good, people would show up. A lot would. This is a sleeping giant of a hockey town, and people just want somebody who cares to support. Hell just look at how well the freaking Wolves draw, even this year when for the first time in their history (going back to 1995) they didn't make the playoffs. At least they were competitive this year, and are every year.
  5. After an incredible rally that saw 2 Carlos Lee home runs, and 10 runs in the final 3 innings by Milwaukee....the Brewers fall just short and lose a wild one at Houston, 13-12. Wow what a game that was.
  6. Also should be mentioned is the little things....Anderson draws a walk and makes another really nice defensive play in CF, couple more hits and a couple SB's for Pods, and Uribe with that 2 out, 2 run single. All great signs to see from struggling players. And of course, Jon was solid as well for his first QS of the year.
  7. The Mets are legit....but only because they are in the NL. Going to be another sweep victory in the WS this year for whoever survives the American League playoff gauntlet. The gap between the 2 leagues is just so huge.
  8. We were fortunate to get that error handed to us early, or else this is a different game. But in 2005 form, we took advantage and got the 3 runs, Jenks looks better every game, and Garland looked great, even if it was Kansas s***ty. But maybe the most impressive thing I saw all night was Thome. Man on 3rd with 2 outs, so what does he do? He just floats a pitching wedge out into the huge space in left center field to get the run home. Great to see, let's sweep these clowns and keep the hot play going.
  9. His stuff IMO looks as good as I've ever seen it. As much as I still have some bullpen concerns, he sure as hell isn't one of them. Kudos to Bobby for working himself back into form and stay healthy!
  10. Washington beat Milwaukee tonight. I'm not sure what that means for the Bulls, but I think Washington might lock up the #5 seed with that win, which IMO is good news since I want no part of Bulls vs. LeBron in the 1st round.
  11. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) That's a long way away from landing him, my man. If his Zookers can't win a Big Ten game this season, that kid, or anyother worthwhile prospect, will not come to Champaign. They aren't going to go ofer in the league again this year, and top 6 for a guy that might be the #1 player in the nation is pretty damn good. Plus, Zook brought in a couple of MD/DC prospects this year who are very close friends with Benn (one was his HS teammate in fact), so that can only help. It's obviously very early, but just being close despite recent suckage for a guy that good is a plus.
  12. Well he shut down an already mediocre lineup without it's best hitter last night in a pitchers park, he beat St. Louis and their swiss cheese lineup with the wind howling in. His other start I give him a lot of credit for, 6 innings of 1 run ball against the Reds is solid, but I'm not exactly sure Maddux is all of a sudden back to 1996 form yet. Still one of the all time greats though.
  13. 15-0 Indians now. I've seen it happen a bunch of times before, so let's hope it does again and the Indians used up all the offense today and lose 2-1 or 3-2 tomorrow.
  14. Arrelious Benn, the #1 WR in the class of 2007 for football and a surefire top 10 prospect, has announced his top 6 and has Illinois in it. http://louisianastate.scout.com/2/521786.html (premium scout story) Wow, Zook is the man.
  15. Jeff Suppan had a rough night, Cards down 9-2 at Pittsburgh. However Pujols has homered already tonight, #10 on the season. Damn.
  16. Nope, Cameron had 4 homers and robbed one of our hitters of one. Cameron came somewhat close to a 5th, but Maggs caught the ball on the edge of the warning track.
  17. QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) This explains a lot. Bowden could have drank all the vodka in Russia and it still wouldn't begin to explain everything about him. What an idiot.
  18. QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Judging by the double digit lead in the 1st half, they seemed to be playing hard last night. I don't buy the theory that a team doesn't try as hard unless they are playing for something. Especially a young and up and coming team like Orlando. Oh they played as hard as they could I'm sure, but subconsiously in a place the Magic couldn't control, I'm sure (ESPECIALLY in overtime) the fire wasn't just quite there as much since a win would do very little for them.
  19. Gomes was the obvious choice IMO, unless you REALLY needed a 1B, in which case Morneau woulda been something to think about.
  20. Magic win that game last night IMO if they were playing for something, so I'm very glad they were eliminated before the game ever started. If they were smart, they'd lock up Ariza and Darko....as for Stevenson, depends on what the money is. He's a nice reserve and has legit 2 guard size, so keeping him would be a plus as well.
  21. So, rivals released it's final 150 list for basketball's class of 2006. Brian Carlwell fell a bit, down to #75 overall, but is still comfortably a 4 star prospect and a top 10 power forward, so whatever. He ends up ranked almost in the exact same spot as Shaun Pruitt was in the class of 2004 (Richard Semrau is still #7 in Ohio, and a 3 star btw). In one of the most improbable turns I've ever seen, Patrick Beverley, who was a 2 star Toledo verbal early this winter, finishes as the #64 player in the nation and a 4 star prospect. And finally, Illinois State verbal Osiris Eldridge held strong as a 3 star and the #136 player in the top 150, damn they have a good class coming in this fall and he's the star of it. Creighton guard Issac Miles at #131 is another mid major appearance in the rankings. Indiana guard Armon Bassett finishes a 3 star at #121, and Will Walker finishes a 4 star at #93 (DePaul).
  22. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) any sleepers to pick up while he is on my dl in fantasy??? His teammate Austin Kearns would be a good place to start looking. He finally SEEMS to be healthy, and is raking.
  23. Bonds treatment.....eventually people will give it to this guy. That lineup other than Edmonds and Rolen (who hey, are both injury risks) BLOWS besides Pujols.
  24. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) I agree with everything you said except this statement. No offense, but your drinking alittle too much sox kool-aid right there. Count has amazing stuff, but he does not have the best (or second) raw stuff even in the AL, yet alone baseball. Didn't watch the game tonight but I'm glad the sox pulled this one out. Playing KC right now couldn't come at a better time, and it can really get us jump started series to series now. Good win all around. Name me somebody that has better pure all around stuff than Count other than Burnett. Burnett and Count may not be the 2 best pitchers in baseball, but in terms of raw stuff, they are top 2. It's just so great to see him using all of his pitches and making people look horrible.
