  1. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) I don't think STL would offer him that. I think maybe Boston or NYY would offer him that kind of money, but I don't see him wanting to go to either one of those clubs. Yeah that is true. What would be the most years and money per year you'd be willing to offer Mark if you were Kenny? Just curious.
  2. If Buehrle is going to cost AT LEAST 13 to 15 million a year, then I hope he enjoys St. Louis. I love MB as much as the next guy, but that is just insane.
  3. I think the thing is that last year, we couldn't afford to have somebody hitting as poorly as Brian did in the lineup, but considering how much better this lineup is than last years and how good a defender Anderson is (even the die hard Rowand homers would admit Anderson plays comparable defense), we can afford to hit Anderson 9th and let him get his AB's as long as everybody else keeps doing their job, and in the case of Uribe and Pods, they keep warming up.
  4. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) The media exagerrate everything - liberal or otherwise. Especially nowadays, its all about sound bites and the spectacular. Make it as edgey as possible. Its only "liberal" bias in this case because the Prez is anything but. And besides, we are talking about Rolling Stone here (they did the cover), who I agree will be even more liberal than the MSM. Yeah, the media exaggerates EVERYTHING. I mean I would think anybody with a brain would admit that the whole Clinton thing was overblown quite a bit too. Was cheating on his wife wrong? Yes, but the whole thing played out in a public forum when really the only thing that meant anything in terms of Clinton and his presidency was the perjury.
  5. I was going to comment further on this, but since I think Bush is the worst thing to happen to the Republican party since Watergate, I can't really give an unbiased opinion.
  6. 1st round predictions anyone? Here's mine: East: #1 Detroit over #8 Milwaukee in 4 games #2 Miami over #7 Chicago in 5 games #3 New Jersey over #6 Indiana in 7 games #4 Cleveland over #5 Washington in 6 games West: #1 San Antonio over #8 Sacramento in 5 games #2 Phoenix over #7 LA Lakers in 6 games #6 LA Clippers over #3 Denver in 7 games #4 Dallas over #5 Memphis in 5 games
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) They have already begun trying to figure out how to fit the ego down the Dan Ryan for delivery. I want to see a statue of Jose Contreras in the "bronze titan" apparel.
  8. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) Any chance TB would trade Joey Gathwright for cheap? They'd trade him, but I don't know if it would be for "cheap". It's a nice idea though, although it would basically mean 2/3rd of our OF would have NO power, and he's not nearly the defender that Rowand or Anderson is.
  9. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 09:01 AM) Yea, they definitely hate the Cubs. And yes, its a great location for a park. My main beef with the Reds is they just aren't showing a willingness to improve. That is a really good baseball town and they are just fielding a lousy product. Some of their signings (mainly Eric Milton recently) have just been horrible. Well they do have the new owner and GM now, so I'm waiting to see what happens with that. They were able to get a decent MLB pitcher in Arroyo for sorry ass K king Wily Mo Pena, so that was a good start. And the thing is, they hired a guy from the Twins organization as their GM, so he knows how to win without a huge payroll.
  10. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 08:56 AM) It's only about a hour and 20 min drive to Cincy so Gage is coming in and we're going to go up to that series. As far as the Reds go, there are a lot of Reds fans here in Louisville, but I don't care much for them. I've been to their new park once and thought it was vastly overrated. I went a couple of years ago, it may have been the first year of the park, for the Cubs and Reds game where Farnsworth speared Paul Wilson. Reds won the game, so that was good. Should be a fun sweep there as their lousy pitching will get rocked by PK, Thome, Jermaine and Co. Argh, playing at that place in June is like a series at Wrigley with the wind blowing out, especially with the Reds lineup. They will probably find a way to win 1 game off of us. I dunno, as for GABP, it's not Miller Park good, but I just enjoy it's location downtown and by the river and think it's pretty fun. Not nearly The Cell or anything though. Reds fans despise the Cubs though and are pretty smart by what I've seen though, so it works for me.
  11. I'm a bit late for the party yes....but Waffle House=best ever.....Starbucks=ewwwwwwwww!!! We really need some Waffle Houses up here, I know of a couple in St. Louis and Cincinnati, but that's as close as they get and both of those are 5 hours or so away.
  12. Pods and Uribe warming up is the biggest news of the last series. The rotation will be fine, Jenks and B Mac are solid in the pen....but if Pods and Uribe start hitting, this lineup is pretty much unstoppable, even if Anderson continues to struggle.
  13. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) Road games only for me this year for the most part. I may make one trip to the Cell all year. So far I am going to Anaheim next weekend for all 3 and then to Cincinnati in June for the 3 game set. May also do one more road trip plus maybe a trip to the Cell. Hey!! I'm going to 2 of the games in Cincinnati My brother is actually a Reds fan (hey better than a Cubs fan right? and he was rooting for us last October) so me and him are taking the drive down there. GABP and Miller Park are such great places to visit (I'll be at Miller Park Saturday for Reds/Brewers) and I kinda like the Reds and Brew Crew. Should be fun.
  14. I'm not going to deny it's level of accuracy (Bush isn't THE worst IMO, but he's in the discussion) but damn that is harsh!
  15. The Hawks don't need to contract, that's silly and they are an ORIGINAL SIX TEAM!! Just get a new owner and a decent team in the UC and people will show up. So many people think hockey is dead in this town and it's just stupid, the Wolves show that hockey isn't dead. Just get a damn team on the West side and the people will come. But right now, the team sucks, half the games aren't on TV, and tickets are expensive for a s*** team.....that is a bad formula.
  16. That's freaking awesome, even if it's a bit limited. A lot of those fans are Texas Rangers fans I'd assume, so use the tickets to go to Kansas City for a couple days and see the Rangers play the Royals or something. MAJOR props to Cuban for that one.
  17. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 07:28 AM) Good, now sign Buehrle to a long term deal. Amen. As for this, great news. And I'm going to my 3rd game already Friday, I'm glad I took the strategy of hitting up early season games here, tickets are going to be so damn tough as the season goes on and the race heats up.
  18. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 08:31 AM) A classy move, but no offense, the Sox should have waited to present Frank with his ring when he returns to Chicago to play the Sox. He deserves that moment in front of the Sox fans. The Sox owe him that as well. JMO. Hmm well that depends. Under normal circumstances I'd obviously agree with you, especially since Frank is the best player in team history and did make a HUGE contribution to the offense when we was playing, but at the same time Frank the person may not even want that ceremony knowing how he can be. I will say this though, he deserved to be offered that chance either way and regardless of how you feel about Frank the person, that would be a spot where every fan in the stadium would be giving him a standing O, that ring is something Frank more than earned with all those great years he had for us in the past.
  19. Yeah the Tribune is trying to sell the Cubs, however I don't know WTF the rest of that is about. If the Wirtz family bought the Cubs though, that would be pretty funny. The Tribune doesn't want to sell the Cubs, but they are at just about peak value between the attendance, new bleachers, and of course the Tribune is DESPERATE for money right now. And not just the kind the Cubs make every year, they need a payday in a bad way.
  20. Ever since I watched Maryland score 13 points against an average NIU defense and lose in 2003, I haven't been a Friedgen fan.
  21. The defending World Champion 1st place White Sox are too worried about beating the hell outta everybody to care about some stupid ass list made by people who consider computers to be the gospel.
  22. The Twins bad lineup is too much for them to overcome when Cleveland and the Sox are in this division, even if Gardenhire's deal with the devil seems eternal.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) Reggie Abercrombie CF of the Florida Marlins hit his first career HR today . . . it traveled 493 feet. I've sat in the area where that homer landed......and all I can say is check the man for HGH, steroids, and whatever else you can think of. That's almost impossible to me that he hit it up there, if I hadn't seen the highlight I wouldn't believe it. And 493 feet is selling him at least 30 feet short.
  24. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) He has now averaged just 1 run of support in his last 10 losses including 6 with that same indians team. Well yes, Elarton and Millwood got no support last year, but I can say for sure he's not 0-4 with this years Indians team with the way he's pitched.
  25. He won't be remembered, since his team never won anything and he was so stupid that he even made the sheep hate him.
