I think Willie is going to do well this year, he actually looked like a legitimate baseball player last August and September (and then in game 4 ), which was a refreshing change out of him.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) Nothing to do with either of them. Referring to the childish booing that will likely take place. Ahh ok, sorry. I disagree with anybody that will boo.....as silly as Frank has been, the amazing things he did for us as a player at least deserve the respect of not booing or cheering.

QUOTE(Soxrock200 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 07:25 PM) I actually had a written record of every White Sox game and score on the wall in a bathroom in my house Some might consider this weird, I consider it awesome. But then again, I'm weird.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) Um, defense was pretty damn essential to Sox' success. That's due to the players Kenny brought in more than anything IMO. I give Ozzie credit for how well this team bunted and got runners over and in and were unselfish last year, but you don't teach defense as awesome as ours was last year. That is a credit to the kind of players Kenny brought in IMO.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) Defensive player of the year...ERIK Hansen. The best defensive big man in the conference and one of the best in the country. Ehh I had him 2nd. Part of this debate is obviously who are 2 favorite teams are, but also Randle is a complete shut down defender who will take the other teams best player and make him not exist. Hansen is a great shot blocker, but I just find what Randle does to be more valuable overall since he is so damn good. You could go with either though IMO (although I think Randle is going to win ). -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 07:21 PM) The only thing he can't do is shoot. His defense is just unbelievable and he knows how to run an offense(though with our stupid motion it kind of slows him down a bit offensively). Yep, a lot like Frazier, only Mullins IMO has a bit more polished game and is an in state kid. I'm not a "we have to get in state kids" kind of guy, but in this situation I'd rather take the Illinois kid who I think is a bit better (and this isn't hinsight, I was thinking this going back to the recruiting period). -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) I vote both. Hehe that's the best part. In reality, they are 2 of the 3 biggest home runs in team history (along with Blum's) and helped us win the World Series, so this is a silly argument. Fun times though, I never thought I'd be able to start a poll like this.

Ok so I was bored the other day, and figured out something pretty cool on Google Earth. Obviously, you can zoom in on anywhere using it (including The Cell) but what I figured out is that you can do direct line measurements in feet. So I tried this out, doing it twice to assure accuracy (yeah I was really bored lol). I did my own measurements of the outfield dimensions at the stadium using google earth, with a line starting right at home plate and going out to the walls. I can say that using zoom capabilities, angles, and getting the same numbers doing this twice, these measurements are about 99.9 percent accurate. Here is what I came up with (all numbers are rounded within half a foot, ex 325.71 feet=326 feet or 395.17 feet=395 feet.) Left Field Pole=326 feet (marked as 330 feet on official website) Left Center Field Gap=369 feet (marked as 377 feet on official website) Straight Away Center=395 feet (marked as 400 feet on official website) Right Center Field Gap=373 feet (marked as 372 feet on official website) Right Field Pole=330 feet (marked as 330 feet on official website) Also of note, the deepest part of the yard are the 2 crevices (for lack of a better term) that are just to the left and right of straight away center, marking between 396.1 feet (left side) and 396.3 feet (right side). The area from the right field foul pole to where the bullpen bar/patio turns to bullpen is all between 330 and 345 feet (very favorable) but once the bullpen starts, the wall jettisons out pretty quickly to the 373 feet at the RC marking just past where the bullpen ends, and then again at a more modest rate to the 396 at the right side crevice. The area from the left field foul pole to the Comcast sign is between 326 feet and 348 feet, before jettisoning out pretty quickly to 369 at the LC marking in the midst of the retired players, and then again at a more modest rate to the 396 mark at the left side crevice. So what does this all mean besides I have too much free time (although I only needed about 15 or 20 mins to do this)? Not a lot, as the measurements I came up with are pretty close to what are marked. But it shows the markings are deceiving, as other than certain parts of the wall which quickly jettison so that the markings are accurate, the park has VERY VERY favorable home run distances. Also, IMO left field is a bit more favorable for home runs as it has slightly more favorable dimensions overall, and also IMO the fundementals deck blocks some swirling winds, allowing a more true flight of the ball to the favorable dimensions. Ok I'm done now, feel free to call me a nerd and such but I thought this was pretty fun.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) Boo, stay with the Hawk theme. Ozzieball--It's an attitude! One of many reasons why I'm not a very big Hawk fan. I'm sure the fact I'm not a huge fan of Hawk or the myth of Ozzieball will get me in trouble this season, but it's a message board so who the hell cares.

I remember watching that Marte in KC play. Me and my friend were pretty drunk, and we went crazy and then I fell down into his turntables. Good times.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) What style of baseball made the White Sox World Series Champions in 2005? Great Pitching, a ton of home runs (most very timely), a loose clubhouse, and then some bunting and base stealing. Common referred to as "Ozzieball", even though that term and idea is a myth, as the first 3 reasons are more than 90 percent of why we won it all. *ducks*

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 05:47 PM) This could end up being great for the Colts, if they can't put a cap on it. Mort says if a deal is done, Edge comes back and if not, he doesn't. He actually said it twice, so maybe they'd be better with a deal getting done. If they don't by the Friday deadline and there is no cap in 2007, there is going to be serious trouble after the 2007 season. The players have said they will never accept another cap if there is no cap in 2007 (ie there is no deal by Friday) and the owners aren't going to do a new deal with no cap. You may see a significant lockout in 2008 if there is no deal by Friday. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) Why Ja'Kel only third team? Simply because he doesn't shoot enough? Also, any of you that look at the Big 12 at all.....what do you think of ISU's NCAA chances for next year? And what are your thoughts on our coaching situation? There's growing rumblings about next year being Morgan's last year if he doesn't do anything. Do you think ISU could draw any coaches with a shred of noteriety? 1. That's not the only reason. The 2 MSU guards and Horton have definitely been better than him, and Dee Brown I put ahead of him simply because of how important he is to the Illini. Foster needs to f***ing shoot more, but it was more an observation than an explination. 2. The end of next season is a LONG LONG way away, but if Morgan gets canned, I think ISU could find a good replacement to take the job. As for ISU's NCAA chances, they look good on paper every year to me, but are pretty unpredictable as to what they will do on the court. -
I guess I look at it differently. When Paulie came up, although I had a good feeling, I was also like "ok, this is our last chance, we better not f***ing blow this and head to Houston 1-1". When he hit that slam, it was part extreme joy and subconsious relief that we had the lead. With Pods homer, it was the 2nd most shocking thing I've ever seen in sports (next to the Illinois/Arizona comeback) and I was just completely losing my mind since it officially won the damn game and sent Houston home in a state of horrid depression.
-
Ok I wasn't sure how to word this, but I think you get the idea. Looking back at the memories, which home run is your favorite? To be honest, I think Paulie will win, but I'm voting for Pods home run. With the way things were going so far in the playoffs, as soon as Dye got that call and the Astros made the pitching change, I knew something good was happening and that Paulie would come up big. That home run was AMAZING, and to have it happen on the first pitch was even more incredible....BUT I vote for Pods. With Paulie's homer, it put us up 2 in the 7th and I quickly began to worry about holding the lead (which we didn't), but with Pods homer, you had so many elements. It was a walk off home run, so game over, we win, we're up 2-0 leaving town. His homer was SOOOOOOOO unexpected, I was just praying Pods would walk and maybe steal 2nd and we could come up with a clutch hit to win the game. He f***ing killed the ball, and I still refused to believe it was going to leave. Even when it left the park, I wasn't sure what to do, there was like a delay before I realized we had won and started to go completely wild and cheer and yell "OH MY GOD" over and over again. I know this isn't all that important, but I figured it would be a fun thing to talk about and look back on and debate as tomorrow is March 1st and the beginning of the Spring Training games. Vote and post away.

My picks: Freshmen of the Year: Jamelle Cornley PSU: No contest. Newcomer of the Year: Marco Killingsworth IU: Yeah he's a senior, but also a newcomer and this one is also no contest Coach of the Year: Bo Ryan of Wisky as long as they at least split their last 2 games to go 10-6. That team has VERY VERY little besides Tucker and Taylor. Yes they are 2 great players, but this team's already poor depth was hurt losing 2 rotation players earlier this year, and they really came back from the dead to have a nice season. I know everybody will vote Thad and some for Alford, but both are blessed with senior laden, talented teams. However Thad will win, and that's cool with me. Defensive POY: Brian Randle ILL: Only averages 27.4 MPG because of foul trouble, but is by far the best defender in the league, and the 27 MPG are enough for me to give him the award. MOP: Vedran Vukusic NW: Most Outstanding Player in the league by a mile. He's double and triple teamed every game, yet still leads the league in scoring while shooting a more than respectable 50.4 percent from the field despite few easy baskets. He might be the MVP of the league too considering how awful NW would be without him, but I just can't get myself to give him that award. MVP: Terence Dials OSU: Simply put, the best player on the best team. Everything OSU does involves him, he's the best defender on the team, he's a major force on both ends, his interior dominance forces the other team to either let him keep dominating one on one, or double team him, giving open looks to those deadly OSU shooters. All Big Ten First Team: C Terence Dials OSU (not sure if he's technically a C, but close enough) F Vedran Vukusic NW F Alando Tucker Wisc G Daniel Horton UM G Dee Brown ILL All Big Ten Second Team: C Paul Davis MSU F James Augustine ILL F Greg Brunner Iowa G Shannon Brown MSU G Maurice Ager MSU All Big Ten Third Team: F Marco Killingsworth IU (loses focus too damn much) F Robert Vaden IU (same story as his teammate) F Geary Claxton PSU (picked the wrong year to be a good forward) G Kammron Taylor Wisc (explosive, but not always consistent) G Je'Kel Foster OSU (TAKE MORE SHOTS DUDE!!) Just my opinion, feel free to rip away. Btw, if Michigan State played defense at all, at least one of their three 2nd teamers would be a level up (I didn't want to put Dee Brown on the 1st team, he hasn't been all that great). -

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) I hope my UIC Flames win the Tourney. Honestly, everyone has a legit shot in our conference. I have friends and/or family with ties to Loyola and UIC, and they are both inner city schools, so as usual I just hope one of them wins the tourney. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) http://www.mvc-sports.com/webapps/release?id=1594 MVC awards given out today. Our freshman pg Bryan Mullins won Freshman of the Year, made the all newcomer team, all freshman team and all defensive team. Needless to say, he's very good. Tony Young was the other Saluki to recieve awards making the all first team, and all defensive team as well. Damnit I wish Illinois would have recruited Mullins more than they did (although I'm not sure if he was interested anyways). Not surprised at all to see him doing so well. -
http://www.mlive.com/preps/aanews/index.ss...ll=2&thispage=1 Great Leon Freeman news (although not surprising), hopefully he qualifies. The Illini also recently offered E'Twaun Moore (class of 2007 combo guard). He is 6'3, 170 and the #71 player (4 star) in 2007 according to Rivals. Sorry, no linky for this one, but here is his profile on O&B (hasn't updated him to having been offered yet by Illinois though). His 2 clear favorites are Purdue and Illinois by all accounts, and he is a top priority if the Derrick Rose talk is indeed true (which it is IMO). http://illinois.rivals.com/viewprospect.as...=2&pr_key=29620

He should hate Joe Crede, seeing as he smacked him with a wall ball to win game 2, and then hit a home run off of him in the 7th inning to tie game 5.

Hahaha the good old "less than 1 percent of the troops sample size want to leave now, so we better do it" argument. We need to get out of Iraq, but this poll is about as meaningful as Guatemala's opinion on U.S. music. -
