  1. With all the s*** he talked about us when he left town, I figured he'd at least be healthy enough to play. Guess I was wrong.....however I respect the hell out of Frank as the best player in franchise history, and wish he would realize he's done.
  2. 4 star 2007 wing player Darquavis Tucker of Michigan has Illinois, Louisville, and Michigan State as his 3 favorites (per rivals).
  3. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) Ok, I have more info about the Rose situation from Eric Bossi, a Kansas/Scout.com basketball guru. He posted this on InsideCarolina.com about the situation, and he would know as well as anyone. "Here's what is happening. There is a rumor circulating that somebody close to Rose had a meeting with Bruce Weber and let him know that if Illinois wanted to sign Derrick that it would take X amount of dollars. Upon hearing this, Weber supposedly got up and left the room. There is no factual basis for this rumor but it didn't stop it from spreading like wildfire. Rose hasn't dropped Illinois and Weber and assistant Tracy Webster were both at his game yesterday. " He also stated that the rumor came from somebody that is "habitually" wrong. So take it all with a grain of salt about Rose for now. Ok, I have no problem with your post and hell, it might all be true. But first, the site that guy is a guru from is going to be as anti Illinois as possible, since those Kansas people all hate us, and the 2nd bolded part is 100 percent wrong. The guys who started this rumor have started ones in the past that more often than not were true. And they aren't the only ones talking about this, just the most prominent ones since they are big time members on the Illini Rivals site. But of course, also take that with a grain of salt.
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) Nice, although I gotta go with Pearl #1. I have Pearl and Thompson lapping the field, and went with Thompson since he's in the Big East and Pearl is in the far inferior SEC. Lame tiebreaker I know, but I had to come up with something. Also, I'm sure the older Illini fans would call this evil, and mind you I don't remember the Pearl/Illinois stuff at all, but if Pearl is some sort of demon, he's a hell of an actor. He is obviously a hell of an in game coach, he's recruiting well (although it's the SEC, so who wouldn't with those academic standards?) and although he's a bit of a hot head, I mean he's not Bobby Knight or anything. Even if he did f*** up a lot with the Illinois thing (not sure exactly if he did or didn't), maybe that time in coaching exile changed him a little bit.
  5. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) No way in hell. Weber has got a long way to go to build up that kinda resume, so I can't argue with that.
  6. southsideirish71 channels the spirit of Harry Doyle talking about the Indians new TV network. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...dpost&p=1048247
  7. I like Gload's stick, but I really don't want to see the Ross Gload experience in the OF ever again. I honestly think 2/3 of the members of this board could play a better OF than Gload.
  8. The fact that Buehrle has never won 20 is another example of why good ERA and durability >>>> win totals for a pitcher.
  9. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) Are you a 76ers fan? Both Sammy and Iggy? My 6: Tyson Chandler Andrei Kirilenko Ron Artest Andre Iguodala Ben Wallace Tim Duncan Nah, I have two Sixers and two Mavs on my list by coincidence. I've always loved Dirk, and I just have always liked Howard's all around game and was amazed he was only the last pick of the 1st round. As for the Sixers, AI is a sick athlete and fun to watch player who's from Illinois of course (even though he went to Arizona) and Dalembert is a classic case of a guy who uses his size very well to overcome his lack of pure basketball talent, and plays his ass off. Then the other 2 guys, D Wade is a Chicago guy (damnit Illinois for not recruiting him at all) who is great to watch, and Bosh is just so damn versatile, it's too bad he plays in Canada and was in the LeBron/Dwyane/Carmelo draft, which keeps him way under the radar. Just your favorites, although it just so happens 2 of my favs are really underrated.
  10. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) Coach of the year Self was in Dallas personally recruiting Slim Shady Arthur today. Btw....if I had coach of the year vote nationally, my ballot: 1. John Thompson III (I think he's the 3rd lol) 2. Bruce Pearl 3. Roy Williams 4. Bill Self 5. Jay Wright (yes I know they have all those guards, but it's still a hell of a job to overcome their lack of size in the Big East).
  11. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) thanks for the info, i just read that. at this point i'm not reading too much into it. i have no problem with his brother running his recruitment, and a big problem if he is running it by trying to line his own pockets. at this point that is all hearsay and is unproven. besides, if illinois was out of the running already and not even interested, why would weber have been in attendance at last night's von steuben-simeon game? there were no other high division I prospects playing in that game. i am not confident rose will go to illinois, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did. at this point i think illinois fans are just so gun shy with any kids from the city that they are looking for reasons to be negative about the recruitment. I'm not going to say it's true, but the sources this came from mean it's more than just hearsay and somebody throwing crap on the wall and hoping it sticks. As for Bruce, Simeon has a kid named Tim Flowers who I know we are at least evaluating right now, and Bruce was seen talking to him, not Rose, after the game last night (and that's not hearsay, it's direct info from somebody that was at the game).
  12. My question is how the hell didn't this kid get into a game before this. I haven't seen the video, but even if he was just left wide open, to hit 6 three's in 4 mins and score 20 points clearly shows the kid can play. Great story for a kid with autism like that.
  13. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0217062contract1.html Unreal.
  14. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 01:26 AM) MSU is seriously underachieving. That team has way too much talent to be so inconsistent. They have the same issues as Gonzaga this year, not tough enough on the glass or defense to win the big game. Izzo is a smart man though, and he could have them in the Final 4 for all we know, which is in part (along with his just not being an asswipe like most great coaches) why I like him so much.
  15. QUOTE(Spiff @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 01:05 AM) Mihm, Kaman, Juan Dixon, Lee Nailon, Sasha Pavlovic, Tony Delk. That's my six. Ooh I'll play! And not including Bulls or former Illini of course..... Dwyane Wade Andre Iguodala Josh Howard (#2 on the NBA underrated list) Dirk Nowitzki Chris Bosh (#1 on said list) Samuel Dalembert
  16. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 01:00 AM) I love the description of that supposed ghost sighting in Aurora. A person encountered the mysterious light on St. Patricks Day at 2 am? They were probably drunk off their ass! The date is bulls***, but the event itself isn't. Again, I'm not a big believer in this stuff but there is weird s*** going on at that hotel.
  17. There ain't s*** haunted in Sterling/Rock Falls (and yes, I've been to that spot at night)...with all the drunken ass teens you might here some odd noises at night though. I have heard this story to be the truth from too many different people to not believe it at least somewhat....
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 12:28 AM) I just read the whole Rose thread on the illiniboard, and here's the problem I have with these accusations.....say Rose does end up going to Illinois. Does this mean that Weber paid him to go there? From my experience working around collegiate athletic departments, all major programs are dirty. That's a good point, but I'd be SHOCKED if he ends up at Illinois. Get back to me if it actually happens, but I agree with you, they are all dirty.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) You talking about Leon Rose? Reggie.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 12:14 AM) I still think I'd give the nod to Bogut, but I actually see Bogut turning into a pretty damn solid defensive player. I actually see him being able to develop into a better defensive Brad Miller (ie not a typical center, but one thats dangerous and I think Bogut will be one of the best passing centers in the NBA for a good span of his career). And god what I'd give for Kaman. I think if he didn't have Brand he'd be more like a 15 or 16 PPG game guy. He has a sweet hook and can use both hands. Plus he's becoming such a consistent player. The Clips are a team thats on its way. Maggette will be back soon enough too and they damn near got to the Mavs in Dallas last night. Agreed on part 1. As for the Clips....watching them even w/o Corey the talent is just oozing. They don't really seem to have fully figured out playing together yet, but they keep getting better and they have all the tools of a very good team.
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) Paul is a damn good player, but I'm taking Bogut #1 overall. I think the bigger question is that you'd rather have him than say Marvin Williams. Now that is interesting. You have a guy like Bobby Simmons, who is pretty young at 25 and pretty good playing the wing, but Marvin Williams has much better size, tools, and through the roof potential. On the other side, you have Bogut, who's a lock to be a career good, but never great, center (although like I keep saying, that's hard enough to find). Tough choice.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) Hell I honestly think I'd give up a #1 overall pick for Chris Kaman. I wish the Bulls could get a guy like Kam. Low post scorers are almost a necessity in this day and age cause they open up the rest of the offense. Without that the Bulls will never win a championship (the exception to that rule is if we have a guy like MJ). Ha I remember thinking the same thing watching the Bulls/Clips game in LA about a week and a half ago. Even a guy like Kaman, who averages about 10/10 a game, is a great value player since he's a legit 5 player who gets the dirty work done.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 11:58 PM) The question you have to try to think about is...where would the Bucks be if they had drafted Paul? Ehh they are cool with Bogut....Ford has a 2/1 Assist to TO this year and is averaging 12 points a game, that's not too bad. Plus, a center like Bogut (even if he's only kinda good) is REALLY hard to find.
  24. Redick will be a pretty good pro if he stays healthy. I don't agree with the RIP comparision (and even he was VERY lucky to end up in the spot he is in Detroit), but a guy that shoots like J.J., is smart, and is an adequate athlete with decent size has a place in the NBA.
  25. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 12:00 AM) I did not know that, that sucks. The CPL has so much talent but damn is it a crapshoot to recruit. The ideal senario is to cherry pick guys out of the near "suburban" schools, which is why IMO losing Julian Wright hurt us 10 times more than losing Sherron.
