Yeah, I was too lazy to look up those numbers, but I bet they are pretty similar. You just aren't going to score runs with low power AND low on base guys. -
Part of the reason Boozer isn't a good defender is his size. But that still does count.

We have 19 hits in this series: 18 singles, and a bloop double by Kotsay. In the 3 games in KC, we had 26 hits: 20 of which were singles. So overall on the trip, we have 45 hits, 38 of which are singles. -
QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) The Bulls are not going to sign Lee. Thib would have a fit with his defense. Boozer's defense isn't much better.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:06 PM) NBA hell is the bottom of the lottery/7th or 8th seed material. I think that lineup would be better than that, and they might give some really good team fits in the playoffs, but they'd never make it to the Finals. To me, NBA hell is any team that's in the playoffs every year, but has no realistic shot at winning it all. You aren't bad, but you're stuck not winning it all and can't really do anything about it. And the Bulls would be right there in that scenario.

Andruw is literally an automatic out if you throw it down and away. No chance. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:06 PM) Agreed. I am starting to get concerned about the loss of the HR on this team. Can they keep scoring enough runs every day without it? I really doubt it. It's really hard to score enough runs on a consistent basis without power unless you have high on base, high speed guys up and down the lineup. And we don't. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:02 PM) Lee and Boozer would be a playoff team every year but they wouldn't win s***. Yeah you'd be firmly entrenched in NBA hell. Picking about 20th every year and losing in the first, maybe second round.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 07:59 PM) I think the fall back would have to be like a Lee and Boozer... but hopefully not..we will not contend with them. I think the fallback is Lee or Boozer, as well as some sort of 2 guard. That'd be really bad though.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) When will KW and Ozzie be smart enough to DFA Jones? He's such a waste of a roster spot right now. This team is going to have to start hitting the long ball again. Yeah Jones has to go, and Beckham really should be in the minors right now. We almost have no choice but to play Kotsay right now in some form, this offense is just not at an acceptable level. As for the offense, single single single single. Yawn. We can talk about athleticism and and not striking out all we want, but there has to be power if you're going score runs consistently, and we only have three legitimate threats in that department. -
Yeah I think the Nets would be the favorites if Carmelo is on the block. The Clippers and Rockets are teams that could be involved too, but I doubt they'd trade him within the west.
-
The Bulls really don't have the resources to trade for Carmelo considering he still has a year left on his deal. The Nuggets can be more picky than that and find a better deal than what the Bulls can offer.

QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 07:52 PM) No doubt, but the idea of Boozer going to Miami isn't as ridiculous as it was made out to be. It's definitely not. It's still very realistic the Bulls end up empty handed and screwed for the next several years. Which is scary.
-
QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) Boozer lives in Miami, and the idea of playing there with Wade would be just as appealing (if not more appealing) as playing in Chicago. Yeah, but Boozer and Wade have a skeleton roster in Miami, compared to Rose and Noah here. Big difference.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 07:44 PM) Agreed. I realize LBJ didn't make it to the Finals, but his team is two straights years the best in the East so it isn't like he'd be going back to some s*** team. Wade, well, quite frankly, that would be a pretty mediocre team for another couple years if he didn't land another superstar so I think Wade needs more help. They're an aging team with no money (if they keep LBJ) that has proven to be fatally flawed in the playoffs because they simply don't have the weapons around LBJ to beat elite teams playing playoff level defense. It's not a bad situation, but it's certainly not a great one either.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) My question is more, why not get rid of Hendry and bring in a Larry Himes type who will let the ML team suffer a bit while contracts expire and rebuild the system from the ground up? The Cubs simply don't seem to have the patience to blow it up, build from within in their minor league system, and try to win that way. The catch 22 of being a team that hasn't won in over a century is the fanbase will never buy into a rebuilding deal like that because they've seen so much failure. Thanks to the long drought combined with the rise in expectations the 2003-2008 years gave their fanbase, they're kind of stuck in eternal win now mode until they win something. Plus, they're trying to keep that ballpark full everyday, especially with the cashflow problems, and one way to for sure lose attendance is going into rebuilding mode. And Balta, the Cubs only have 3 games left against the Pirates. Although that might be a good thing from the Cubs perspective with how they've played against them.

Ric Bucher said "Kobe Bryant has played his last game in a Lakers uniform" around Halloween of 2007. So his word means nothing.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 06:52 PM) I am conflicted. I understand the "bird in the hand" argument . . . but LBJ is still the top prize in this offseason. I think I want to see how that unfolds. If you wait too long for LBJ, you might lose Bosh and Wade to Miami and risk ending up with nothing. That's not a risk i'm willing to take if such a scenario is actually at hand.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) I want a Dutch/Germany match up. Ditto, and I'd be shocked if that's not how it ends up. You'd think that'd be a great game, but we've already had a few great matchups on paper that ended up duds, so you never know. -
QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 06:35 PM) Meaning no Lebron? IDK how to feel about that. I really want LBJ, badly. I am a passionate man. If we can get Wade and Bosh and LeBron won't commit, then he can kiss our ass and enjoy remaining ringless in Cleveland as far as I'm concerned. LeBron is the better player, but you can't afford to turn down a 15 million dollar lotto ticket because you think you might win the 25 million dollar one.

Even a no hitter wouldn't do anything for the Cubs at this point. The Reds really haven't shown up today, they could easily be down by 10 runs or more right now if they weren't playing a cupcake like this.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) Crazy...I see Dusty implemented Ozzie's strategy of benching 3 starters. Yeah, they've still got some good players in there though, and Heisey is a much better hitter than Stubbs (at least right now).
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Is the wind blowing in? Howling straight out.
-
Johnny Cueto has thrown 101 pitches through 5 innings and has a shutout going. He's due up 2nd next inning and probably done, but that's ridiculous. The Cubs have already 22 individual LOB and 12 team LOB.
-
Yeah, even if Wade doesn't come here, the idea that what he's doing is a smoke screen just doesn't hold water IMO. I'm kind of glad the LeBron stuff is going to be over soon. It just seems so incredibly unlikely he'll come here, and it'll be nice when the Bulls can move their focus to Bosh and Wade, who are much more realistic options.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) The Ricketts have extremely low cash flow right now and they would probably get no offers for Zambrano and Soriano if they didn't pay some of the contract, the contracts are unmovable, and I believe they both have NTCs so it's not like an open market or anything. Ricketts also have Wrigley to deal with, they own it and have to dump money to keep it up every offseason, with the IL budget right now they have zero hope of getting any state help or from anywhere else short of selling an interest in it. Exactly. They have low cash flow, a ballpark with decreasing attendance and increasing maintenance costs, a lack of general money due to the resources used to buy the team, and a lot of overpaid veterans with no trade clauses. It's not a good situation to fix a team full of holes unless you just have a dynamite minor league system, and they don't.
