  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) Well, PK just cost us a likely run with his defense. Get your body in front of that! Yeah the infield in KC was really fast (which is understandable with how often their offense hits the ball on the ground), and the infield in Texas is actually even faster than that (although maybe all of this rain will slow it down a bit). Big strikeout there, be nice to get out of this.
  2. Q was just a little bit off on a couple of meatballs that at bat.
  3. We'll take it. We're going to need some power and big innings this weekend in that ballpark though.
  4. It just seems like Omar and Juan rarely hit the ball hard. Even when they get hits.
  5. The Ricketts are not in a particularly good financial position right now due to the resources they needed to use to acquire it combined with the current economy. That is why you're seeing some of these ridiculous advertising ploys like the giant noodle thing outside of Wrigley, the Toyota sign above the LF bleachers, and this silly fantasy camp thing they are doing. With that in mind, the Cubs are going to have to try and sell off whatever they can to save money, especially as the crowds are (and will continue to) dwindling with every bad performance. The problem is the catch 22 is that for the first time in years, the Cubs owners actually REALLY NEED the money a full ballpark brings, and it could be argued every empty seat brings the Cubs closer towards getting rid of more people and keeping somebody like Jim Hendry. Lou will be gone after this season, but it's iffy if they can even afford to dump Hendry. And while they would love to dump players, they don't have a lot of valuable chips, and the ones they do have value (there are a few good young guys) don't make enough money to really save by dumping them. The really expensive veteran guys are largely people with no trade clauses. The situation really is a mess, and I don't envy the Ricketts position right now at all. They have a bad team, a fanbase growing more and more angry by the minute, money problems, and a meh minor league system. Oh, and their stadium is still falling apart and needing a lot of infrastructure help.
  6. I'm not sure anything reported by any hometown reporter in any city can be believed right now. It's all so incredibly biased for each city. But the national guys have proven to be errant too. It's not really that much different than it was pre July 1, lots of s*** slinging.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 07:55 PM) *information minister Ahh yeah, that's right. One of the dudes was just on ESPNEWS, and he basically made it sound like Wade is not even thinking about leaving, and he's doing the extra meetings to be nice.
  8. All of the Heat beat writers are like the Iraqi defense minister, just denying as much as they can. It's quite funny.
  9. Wade to the Bulls is probably dead if he's not deciding until next week.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) Comcast reported that Wade is meeting with Pat Riley next week. That's really bad news, yuck.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 06:36 PM) Sabina Gadecki is her name Yeah, I've seen her on tv a few times. Her man isn't worth a max deal, but she definitely is.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Depending on where they all go, if the Bulls don't land anyone, they won't be contenders for a while. They weren't going to be contenders anytime soon if they stuck with what they had. They were stuck in NBA hell, a .500 team with mid 1st round picks. Not a good place to be.
  13. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) if this whole thing blows up in our face idk if i could take it Yep, and I still have a bad feeling it's going to.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 06:03 PM) The game was in early July and the Cubs rebuilt the lead to eight games again. My point is that the Cubs are still talking about 1969, a year that ended up pretty s***ty, acting like it was yesterday, not five decades ago. And I'm criticized on here for sticking up for a guy who had one of the biggest hits in a World Series five years ago. I think many Sox fans are insane or insecure. I am not sure what the word is. When I think of Pods and Dye, I have great thoughts and these two guys have been mocked on here a lot. My point was if they had done what they did for the Cubs, they'd own this city not get mocked. You keep mentioning how if the '05 guys had done what they did for the Cubs, they'd be the kings of the city forever and not be mocked. That honestly makes me want to mock guys like Pods even more. The LAST thing I want to be like is Cubs fans.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 12:08 AM) Very strange inning, as Shoppach didn't tag up then on a diving catch by Kubel, and then in the bottom of the inning, Soriano threw 5 straight pitches to Hudson that were in the K zone, and 2 of them were called balls. I had the game on TV, the two pitches called balls in that at bat looked to be literally down the middle and actually a bit below the belt in height. I was amazed they were both calls balls.
  16. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 11:40 PM) I think the roster is just about set, in terms of new blood coming in. If the season started next week, I think this is how it would shape up. Kopecky-Toews-Kane Brouwer-Sharp-Hossa Beach-Bolland-Stalberg Dowell-Reasoner-Skille Keith-Seabrook Hjalmarsson-Campbell Lalonde-Connelly/Scott Niemi Crawford Obviously not ideal, but the top two lines are strong, as well as the top two D pairings. 2010-2011 will be sort of a transition year, with a lot of the kids getting time. The Toews/Kane bonuses are taking up over 4 million dollars of the cap this year, so that number will open up to make a Seabrook extension a little easier. I see the Hawks falling somewhere in between the 3rd and 5th seed. Well said, I'm with you on just about everything in the above post.
  17. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) Forgetting about expectations and skill sets, a .692 OPS isn't disasterous for an infielder. No, but a .261 on base for a guy expected to hit 2nd is. Heck, that's a disaster for anyone though.
  18. The year is already halfway over, wow. And anybody that's seen lostfan's facebook wall knows that's probably not the only time something like that has happened. He proves on a consistent basis that some women are just whores looking to cause trouble and get with a taken man (although to be fair, I'd assume there are guys that are like that with women that are taken too).
  19. Amar'e to Miami if Bosh comes here, Amar'e to New York if Bosh goes to Miami. At least IMO.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) I'm skeptical of this figure, but I got a feeling she knows about Tiger cheating and I mean HGH/Steroids/etc. Hearing of new mistresses or about a couple kids ain't going to be worth 750M. Finding out he juiced like crazy would completely destroy everything he's ever accomplished. The HGH/Steroids thing is key. It'd be worth 750 million dollars just to keep that quiet if his wife knows about it and is willing to chirp, because Tiger and everything he's done is irrelevant if he was on that stuff. He'd just be another Barry Bonds or Roger Clemens.
  21. Yeah, I think Gay is a little bit better than Deng, but that's definitely an even worse contract.
  22. The NBA doesn't need a cap on the maximum deal a player can get as much as it needs a cap on how much you can overpay bad, average, and even decent to pretty good players.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) You got something against Juan Uribe? I have something against anybody with numbers like those. Although, in Juan's defense, his offense has been pretty good in SF. He was .289/.329/.495/.824 in that mammouth park last year. And even more amazingly at least in terms of OBP, he's at .266/.336/.467/.803 so far this year. He already has 27 walks, just 7 shy of his career high.
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) Yeah, Yankee Stadium is 318 down the LF line and 314 down the RF line. Yeah, and it's 395 to CF at Dodger Stadium, which i'm almost positive was built after the rule. It's less than 325 to LF in Houston and RF in San Francisco as well. There are quite a few other examples too, just can't think of them off the top of my head.
