  1. QUOTE(rangercal @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 01:53 AM) I would never side with the devil: Jay Marrioti. So you're saying Lew Ford isn't the devil?
  2. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Honel or Hernandez(our only decent C prospect) are guys being talked about in place of Rogo. I say do that if they'll take him.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) You're telling me! I've been worried about a potential collapse for a few months now, and everyone knows I'm worried that it's not a sure thing we'll make the playoffs. Does it have to be a mathematical certainty before you'll be convinced?
  4. Chris Young is an awesome hitter. This season, he's just about on the same clip as Delmon Young. I certainly hope he continues that trend.
  5. I find this feud funny. It's like watching a train wreck. They're both just going to keep taking shots at each other until one or the other goes away. Until then, on with the train wreck!
  6. Why not? Just turn Rogo into a PTBNL for now and it's the same deal. They get guys who could end up replacing Griffey and Casey, and they get a huge contract off their hands. Other than their stupid owner, I can't see a reason why they wouldn't do this. Griff has said he would come here, and you know KW is dying to make a big move, so I don't see any reason this couldn't happen. If it doesn't, blame Carl Lindner.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 10:56 PM) http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...x.jsp?content=1 I guess this means Chris Young and Brian Anderson aren't any good. Yeah. For a second there I got my hopes up on Chris Young, considering he's playing at Delmon Young's level right now (they're both 20/20, Delmon has a higher BA, while Chris has a higher OBP, even when Delmon's AAA stats are added to his AA stats). Boy, was I wrong. Well, at least we have Ryan Sweeney.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) Ok, let me add a little more then just No. You don't lay down ever, that's just ridiculous and sends the message that you're scared. Would I prefer to play a different team in the playoffs? Sure I would, but the playoffs are a different game and I'd have confidence in our guys to beat Oakland. It's not like they wouldn't have a mental hurdle to overcome either, if this was the first round matchup from our side we'd be hearing how the A's own us and from their side they'd be hearing how they can't get out of the first round. Is this something that's baseball specific? I've never heard of resting starters to go into a playoff game (which basically means handing the opponent the game) showing that you're scared. For example, last year the Colts and Eagles had nothing to play for in their final game of the year, so they both chose to rest all of their starters for the playoffs. That's not being scared, that's being smart, because by not playing their starters, they were assured that their starters would be healthy for the following game. Both lost those games, and the Colts cost the Jaguars a playoff spot, but they did the right thing for their team. If the White Sox have nothing to play for when those games roll around, I'd rather see the starters be rested, healthy, and ready for the playoffs than playing and risking injury and fatigue in the playoffs. If that means the Sox let the Indians sneak in, so be it, but they'd be doing what's best for their team.
  9. 123! There's 49 games left, so if the Sox play 1 game under from here on out (24-25), they'll go 98-64. 26-23 is not very much to expect from this team, so I'll say 100-62 will be the Sox final record.
  10. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 02:12 AM) I still say the twins catch the A's. They have always been a september team. I just don't believe in Oakland. I don't think the Twins have the firepower to come back, especially with no Torii Hunter. The 2 teams that have a chance to catch the A's (given they fall back out of 1st in the AL West) are the Indians and Yankees. I wouldn't be afraid of any team the Sox might face in the postseason, because when they play their game, they're unbeatable. However, Oakland is the team I'd least like to face, because the Sox seem to hand them games. Think about the matchups earlier this year. There were at least 3 games in there that the Sox would normally win, but for some reason, the A's have some way to catch a break just when they need it, usually by way of a costly error. If the Sox play their game facing Oakland, they win, no question in my mind, but for some reason they just can't seem to get away from that costly error against them.
  11. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:21 PM) So some of you would be afraid to have Buehrle start the first game if we play the A's? I have confidence in him no matter who we play. I think he gives us the best chance to win that first game, and I don't want to waste any opportunities in a 5-game series. ^ What he said. I'm still waiting for Oakland to cool off. It has to happen eventually. When it does, hopefully the Yankees or Indians will step up and claim the WC. I just don't want to face Oakland. It's not that I don't think the Sox can beat them, because I've figured out over the course of the 113 games the Sox have played so far this season that if this team plays it's brand of ball against anyone, they'll win, but the way the Sox just handed Oakland at least 3 of the games that they played against them this year just bothers me.
  12. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) I don't see him in person, but I'm certainly one of his largest fans here on the site, and I'll tell you right now he's not ready to help this club in any convincing way. You're probably right. When I see big numbers like Young is putting up, I want to see what he can do at the next level. That's why he's intriguing to me, especially when you consider that he's putting these big numbers up in a pitcher's park. Any chance he moves up to AAA or even the bigs with the September call-ups?
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) The problem is that this is Young's 1st season above low A ball. Francouer IIRC spent the year before this one at AAA, or some part of it. It's more likely we see Anderson up here before Young. I'm hoping one or the other gets called up, and if either does, I know it's more than likely going to be Anderson. I'm just intrigued by Young, as the only thing he hasn't done in a pitcher's park at AA is post a good batting average. Everything else he's done there has been amazing. Before he went into his HR drought, he was challenging Delmon Young for the SL HR lead. I know Young is probably not going to get called up, but he is the most interesting option to me.
  14. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) After tonight he is a 20/20 guy with 20 HR 20 SB Thanks for the update. Since you see him in person a lot more than most here, what do you think of the idea of the Sox calling up Chris Young?
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 07:12 AM) Anderson hasn't played for the past week down in Charlotte, hopefully it's nothing serious, because the way he's been swinging the bat, even though Charlotte is a hitter's park and his K/BB ratio needs serious improvement, he could have a Jeff Francouer like impact (and Francouer had worse stats than Chris Young in AA before he was promoted to the Braves). This is why I'd like to see Chris Young called up. He's nearly a 20/20 guy at Birmingham (18 HR, 20 SB), has a good OBP, a good BB/K ratio, good HR and gap power, and a decent average in a pitchers park. I'd like to see what he could do in a hitter's park like Comiskey.
  16. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) :fyou royals how the hell do you blow a 5 run lead in the ninth Commit an error on an easy popup to LF with 2 outs after giving up 4 runs and then give up 6 more runs after that.
  17. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) SMOKE EM!!!!!!!!! Come on Freddie: Day Away Game? Youre invincible. ^ what he said
  18. There are 2 guys who MIGHT be able to make an impact if they were called up today IMO. They are Brian Anderson and Chris Young. Anderson would be the safer bet (not that either would be a safe bet), but Young is so much more intriguing. I know his BA is low at Birmingham, but he has good HR and gap power, a good OBP, and good speed. I have a feeling that if he were hitting in a hitter's park (like Charlotte's park or Comiskey), his BA and HR totals would go up. I know it's highly unlikely, but I wouldn't be upset if he were called up.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 11:47 PM) Right when Rowand got knocked out, I immediately thought of that commercial. I'm glad I wasn't the only one.
  20. QUOTE(IndplsSoxFan @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 06:49 PM) I heard on BBTN today that the Mets were expected to put Mike Piazza through waivers in the near future. Do you think the Sox would have any interest in him (instead of Griffey Jr.?) His skills are deteriorating, and he's only going to get worse. No thanks.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 03:55 AM) Just in case anyone cares I got a theory that the Sox traded for Griffey and that Reds ownership killed the deal. I heard this rumor on the radio, but I can't remember who said it. They did say that Reds ownership killed it because of the PR nightmare they thought it would cause. Anyway, is there still a chance that Griffey Jr. clears waivers and the Sox could revisit a trade for him? For his bat and his defense, it'd be great to pick him up, especially if at least a decent portion of that deferred money (along with some of his contract) would be picked up by the Reds without the Sox giving up the farm. Any chance he'd be a clubhouse disruption? Also, if he were to come here (I know I'm thinking way too far ahead on this, but it would be an issue), what would the OF situation be, or would he just DH?
  22. QUOTE(Cali @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 07:39 PM) Why do these experts seem to keep forgetting they're talking about the Chokeland A's? I remember how great the A's were heading into the playoffs in '01, '02, '03.... I forgot what happened to them though.... You didn't hear about the great Oakland A's dynasty of the 00s? Anyone who think the Sox have no chance obviously hasn't been watching baseball in the last 4+ months. Look at the Sox starters' phenominal numbers this year. As a group they're either 1st or 2nd in the AL in every major pitching category. 1st in ERA, 1st in wins, 1st in quality starts IIRC. Then there's the pen, which has 4 solid arms that could do well in the postseason, and that's if you don't count Bobby Jenks's 99 MPH heat and 12-6 curve. The defense is solid, the pitching is great, and for years the "experts" have said that that is what wins championships. So if they want to say that the Chokeland A's are the "scariest" team in MLB if the playoffs started today, whatever. The 2 problems with that are that the playoffs don't start today (and Oakland will cool off LONG before they do), and as has been said on this thread before, scaring your opponent isn't required to get a win.

  24. Fine? He doesn't deserve it, but whatever, it wouldn't affect him pitching for the Sox. Suspension? Completely uncalled for. Any team has to expect retaliation after drilling 2 very important hitters with fastballs in 2 consecutive games. Surhoff should consider himself lucky Buehrle didn't throw a fastball.
