I say go to the 6 man rotation. It'll get the starters rested and ready for the playoffs, and it'll give BMac a chance to show his stuff.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Beautiful game. The 4 games Pods has played in since he has come back the sox have scored: 5, 6, 8, and 12 runs. Hmmm, I see a trend here. Maybe someone who is very important to the offense being out was the main reason for the skid the Sox went on in August?

how we learned to stop worrying and love fathom

Why do SO MANY posters here think that Kenny Williams should take the blame if something goes awry? Because he couldn't add a major bat in "our year", and he wouldn't pay "whatever it takes"? I find quite a few things wrong with this. First off, if it's our year, it'll be our year regardless, no trade or acquisition will change that. Secondly, do you really want to pay whatever it takes for something that will guarantee absolutely nothing? I know I sure as hell don't. Why? Do you really want to be looking back on a trade like this: 11/14/03 The San Fransisco Giants acquired C A.J. Pierzynski from the Twins for Ps Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser and Francisco Liriano. A year or two later, ESPECIALLY if the Sox wound up losing anyway? Think about that, right now, the Giants could have a bonafide closer AND 2 up and coming starting pitching prospects, but instead of that what do they have? Well, they've got A.J. Pierzynski...oh wait, WE have A.J. Pierzynski. So they have absolutely nothing but their own stupidity to show for that trade. It's just not worth it when the asking price is too high. -
Meaning if it only goes down 1 per day from here on, the division will be won on September 24th. I'm not assuming anything, just stating a fact.

OH MY GOD! I never thought I'd live to see the day where Dr. Z EVER praised the Colts. He has them as the #1 team. I guess I should be happy about that?

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:41 PM) It was right at the time. After the loss of game 1 it was down to 6.5. And very good post r&w, a team can get hot the last few weeks of a season and have that carry them through. If we can get Dye or Aaron hot the last month and continue to have them hit the ball hard going into the playoffs then the offense all the sudden won't look so bad. Actually, from what I saw tonight, all it'll take is Pods getting hot, getting on base often, and wreaking havoc on the basepaths. He created quite a few things for the offense today.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) I'm getting a lot of answer, and that's all well and good. But, I'm not getting what I want. Someone just say yes, he'll be the next Santana Well, if he can carry his EXTREMELY impressive minor league numbers into the major leagues, we're talking someone who could end up with a career ERA in the low 3s, or maybe even the 2s.
-
Pods got a hit for Iguchi tonight by running. He also stole his 55th base and scored some runs. He has a HUGE impact on the White Sox offense, and anyone who can't look past home run, RBI, and SLG% totals to see the impact of a leadoff hitter with good speed is just plain dumb.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) You seem to be expecting a lot from Orton and just setting yourself up to be dissapointed. Has he looked good in pre-season... yes but thats against almost all the time vs the 2nd team defense and with miami it was the 3rd team defense.... Like I said as long as he keeps defenses honest and not stacking the line against the run we should be good. I have kind of high hopes but im not trying to set my expectations 2 high just to see him be a bust. Well, all the opinions you read there are from a Colts fan who also happens to be a Purdue fan. I watched Kyle a lot, and IMO he's a very good, very smart QB. Will that translate into an all-pro year? Well, even I don't think he's the next Marino, but he'll be a lot more successful than the average rookie QB IMO.
-
Ouch, those are bad numbers. However, I still think he's more deserving than Jon Adkins.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) Well it seemed like to the Dam8610 that because of Brian one successful game, he deserved a place on the playoff roster. Not at all the case. Brian Anderson has done well in his stint up here IMO, and Jon Adkins has proven himself unworthy of a ML roster spot IMO, therefore Brian Anderson is a better player to keep on the roster IMO. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) Well about 5 games is a pretty small sample size to real take note of the stats, but I think if most were asked around here would you'd prefer Timo or Brian on the post - season roster, they'd say Brian. and I would definitely be among those. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) That means nothing, and most of the voters would go against Timo just because they hate Timo so much. Timo has postseason experience. That favors him. Timo can bunt. Timo is left handed. That's about it, but really, how often in the playoffs does it come down to the 25th man? It's not like we're choosing who will bat 3rd in the lineup. I would go against Timo because I've always preferred talent and ability to produce over experience, hence voiding your first advantage of keeping Timo over Brian to me. Timo can bunt, but in what limited action he saw, Brian proved that he could bunt too, so that makes them even there. As for a LH bat, I would again argue that talent and ability to produce are more important. Despite these points, if it were up to me, both Brian and Timo would both still be on the roster, and Jon Adkins would be back in Charlotte. IMO, Adkins is simply not deserving of a spot on the 25 man roster, and especially the playoff roster.

Brian Anderson does great, owns a phenom pitcher, and gets demoted, while Jon Adkins does horribly, has an ERA a little bit above 13, and stays on the active roster. Can someone please explain the logic and/or thought behind this?

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) its like playing the lottery. maybe they've found a diamond in the rough. oh wait, they're the bears........nevermind Bears or not, they found a 1st round talent in the 4th round of the draft. Can you say steal of the draft? QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) over/under 4 starting QB's for the bears this season im going to go with under . I think orton s going to be average and will be are starter all season. I agree with your assessment, and if you're setting the over/under at 4, I'd take under any day of the week. Even "QB carousel" Spurrier only used 3 in his 1st year in Washington. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) There's about a 1% chance Orton does anything of substance this year. I have to disagree with that. He's got just about everything you want in a QB. He's calm in the pocket and can throw just about any ball exactly where it needs to be and when it needs to be there. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) I just hope people are expecting 2 much from Orton, He is not only a rookie but a late round rookie so to expect 2 much from him is just asking to be dissapointed. I just want him to keep defenses honest and not be pathetic like Hutchinson and the rest of the crew of QB's from last year. He may be a rookie, but to discount him because he was drafted in the later rounds is absurd. He was an absolute steal in the 4th round and I think he'll do well this season. Does that mean a 4000 yard 30 TD season? Probably not, but don't be suprised if he's efficient, and helps the Bears offense score a lot more points this season.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) oh, hawk, how stupid are thee? The man that launched 1000 paraphrases...

I think Orton should be given a shot at the Bears starting QB job, because he's showing the same things that he showed in his best days at Purdue when the Boilers were the #5 ranked team in the nation and Orton was the frontrunner for the Heisman, plus he's shown that he's capable of a whole lot more than any other Bears QB (except for maybe Grossman, but no one knows what he's capable of). FWIW, I think Orton was the steal of the draft.

Maybe if someone were to ask Boyer REALLY nicely, he could get the White Sox to sell it?
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) He would be available for the playoffs because he is on the DL. Oh. Thanks for the correction. Didn't know that.
-
Timo did not do all that well in those games. A .270 average is the type of average you might want to get out of a #3 or 4 hitter that hits 35-40 HR per year, not a leadoff man that is expected to get on base to allow the power hitters to drive him in. Personally, I'd prefer to see Pablo Ozuna leading off and playing SS (Uribe moves to 3B), with Brian Anderson and Aaron Rowand playing LF and CF.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) yeah it's kinda ironic that former big league teamates square off in the minors and Borchard tees off against Shingo. As for Podsednik, if he doesn't come back on Monday, I'd say he might as well wait another 2 days for the September 1st call ups. You don't want him available for the playoffs?!
-
So who is going down when Podsednik comes up? Adkins or Anderson? I'm really hoping it will be Adkins, but something tells me Anderson will be sent down.
-
Yes, keep hitting HRs off of pitchers with great stuff! You'll be around for a LONG time if you do.
